my log says nothing...
I started a script manually of all our computers yesterday and it took 6 1/2 hours to complete. I watched it all the time and got shure everything was right. So I had high expectations for the automatic script at night, the log included below. The first computer was turned off but the second was on and has for the past 1 1/2 years never made any headache. When the PC didn't respond, why didn't it move on to the next computer? There are a total of 14 volumes/folders/computers that are backed up and they worked during the day. Regards, Cory For that matter, they don't support VHS video drives and audio cassette drives with data adapters (circa 1980). At the lower margins there are many devices that are not supported. Common sense should provide some guideance: you get what you pay for. Absent industry standardization, be afraid, very afraid. On the other hand, industry standards for tape are more often violated than honored, in my experience. Dantz provides copious information on what they DO support and stands behind their compatibility statements. Move up market on the devices you purchase and you'll benefit both from improved performance and reliability while gaining support from Dantz's test team. We're all paying for the support but have to make the right hardware purchases to benefit from their efforts. The bottom line is that purchasing the cheapest tape solution is almost always a false economy. feature request
While we have been successful in eliminating most of the problem backup computers, we are still struggling with a few more. In particular, if a backup computer slows to a crawl (as one last did) then the backup nevers finishes overnight. For example, one of our problem Macs started backing up at 10:56 PM last night, and it has only copied 47 Mb at 9:30 AM this morning! My feature request would be to have a "skip" client option along with the "pause" and "stop" options so that either you could manually skip a client, or even better, set a parameter to skip a client if the backup on that client has exceeded "X" minutes/hours. Any likelihood of this being implemented? Thanks. Jeffry C. I believe this feature already exists (at least it does in the Mac 4.2 version) Check your script options. At 9:27 AM -0500 8/18/00, Jeffry C. Re: feature request
You can set the script to skip a client, but the great thing would be if there is a skip button to do it from the progress/status window. There has been many times that could have used this feature Jeff Johnson System Administrator Just Partners 1710 East Franklin Street, Suite 150 Richmond, VA 23223 (804) 698-6309 [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: Philip Chonacky [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: "retro-talk" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 11:47:18 -0400 To: "retro-talk" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: feature request I believe this feature already exists (at least it does in the Mac 4.2 version) Check your script options. Re: Tape Drive Compatibility
I think you missed my point here. I'm not arguing that Dantz *should support* parallel drives...I'm merely suggesting that if they're not going to support them, they should state it explicitly in all 'supported devices' documents so people like me don't purchase incompatible drives. Regards, Cory I think you missed my point. Dantz has done a wonderful job of trying to support everything, but with the vast number of drives out there, it's impossible for them to test everything. Therefore the supported drives list may only contain things they know work. I personally checked the compatibility list and then bought a drive based on that list. Buying a drive and then seeing if it is on the compatibility list seems silly to me. ;) -- -- To subscribe:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives:http://list.working-dogs.com/lists/retro-talk/ Problems?: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
