While I agree with Rusty that this was blown way out of proportion, I still
think he is a little psychotic little bitch with his own list. Leave him
over there.

Personally, I got sick of him making a post on RTF, someone making a

It just makes my hair hurt!

And I am sure he scours the archives hourly, so no one needs to forward this

[RollTideFan] Warren Zevon RIP...

2003-09-08 Thread kr10
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/08/obituaries/08CND-Zevon.html?ex=1063684800amp;en=834baa3cec814529amp;ei=5062amp;partner=GOOGLE

Warren Zevon, Singer-Songwriter, Dies at 56
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Warren Zevon, who wrote and sang the rock hit Werewolves of
London and was among the wittiest and most original of a broad circle of
singer-songwriters to emerge from Los Angeles in the 1970s, died Sunday. He was 56.

A lifelong smoker until quitting several years ago, Zevon announced in September 2002
that he had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and had only months to live. He
spent much of that time visiting with his two grown children and working on a final
album.

Zevon died Sunday of lung cancer at his home, his manager Irving Azoff told the Los
Angeles Times. Azoff did not return calls from The Associated Press early Monday.

Phone messages also were not returned from Zevon's publicist, Dianna Baron; Baron's
assistant, Cathy Williams; and Zevon's record company manager, John Baruck.

Zevon faced death with the same dark sense of humor found in much of his music,
including songs like I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, Life'll Kill Ya and Things to Do
in Denver When You're Dead.

Zevon said he chose a certain path and lived like Jim Morrison and lived 30 more
years. You make choices and you have to live with the consequences.

He released his first album, Wanted -- Dead or Alive, to little notice in 1969, but
gained attention in the '70s by writing a string of popular songs for Linda Ronstadt,
including Poor, Poor Pitiful Me, Carmelita and Hasten Down the Wind.

His next two albums, 1976's Warren Zevon and 1978's Excitable Boy, followed those
songs with darkly humorous tales of prom-date rapists; headless, gun-toting soldiers
of fortune; and werewolves who drank pina coladas at singles bars and were particular
about their hair.

They cemented Zevon's reputation as one of rock music's most politically incorrect
lyricists, giving him a lifelong cult following that included gonzo journalist Hunter
S. Thompson, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura and Late Show host David Letterman,
who provided backing vocals on Hit Somebody, Zevon's 2001 elegy to a professional
hockey goon who longs to be a goal-scoring hero.

I always like to have violent lyrics and violent music, Zevon told The Associated
Press in 1990. The knowledge of death and fear of death informs my existence. It's a
safe, kind of cheerful way of dealing with that issue.

Other admirers included Bob Dylan, whom Zevon cited as one of his principal
songwriting influences and who performed on his 1987 album Sentimental Hygiene.
Still another was Bruce Springsteen, who co-wrote Jeannie Needs a Shooter, Zevon's
tale of a lover shot to death by a woman's jealous father.

Not that all of his music was dark and violent. His oveure contained some straight-out
comedy as well, including Mr. Bad Example, The Hula Hula Boys and Gorilla You're
a Desperado. The latter told the tale of a Los Angeles Zoo ape who escapes by locking
a yuppie in his place and going off to live in the man's apartment, only to end up
depressed and divorced.

His compositional style reflected a number of genres, from hard-driving rock to folk,
as well as classical, polka and other influences. In his final months, he summoned the
energy to complete a last album, The Wind, released in August. It includes the
poignant Keep Me in Your Heart, a cranky Disorder in the House and a remake of
Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

Zevon, born in Chicago to Russian immigrant parents, moved to Los Angeles in the
1960s, making a living writing jingles for television commercials. He also composed
the song She Quit Me Man for the movie Midnight Cowboy. He was just out of his
teens when he went to work for the Everly Brothers, first as a pianist and later as
their band leader.

[RollTideFan] Post Game Comments

2003-09-08 Thread Jeff Todd
Mike Shula (Alabama Head Coach '03)

Obviously, it was very disappointing. In a tough loss like that where we didn't play
like we wanted to play,
there were still some things that were positive that we're going to build on. That's
going to be real important
for our team to take the good things we did against a real good team. They're #1 for a
reason and we found that
out today. They're a well coached and talented team. But we've got to take those good
things and grow. And we'
ve got to learn in a hurry and correct the bad things. I thought we were a little
sloppy early, for whatever
reason. But we hung in there and our defense kept us in . kept the score low and gave
us a chance. We got going
there and got the touchdown after the missed field goal, got it back to 13-10. We held
them again and then they
come with the fake punt. What a gutsy call, what a great call on their part. That
allowed them to stay on the
field, and then they came up with a big play. But again, we've got to build on the
good things and we have a
lot of football left. It's disappointing, but I think we still have some great young
men. Everyone on that
sideline. There's not one person in there getting frustrated. Everyone was believing
until that final second
that we were going to be able to find a way to win it. That's what it takes. No matter
the situation, that's
what it takes. We can work with that.

Dave Rader (Alabama Offensive Coordinator, quarterbacks coach)

These comments came following the Oklahoma game as Dave Rader answered questions from
the press pool ...

Tonight . what if the field were six inches wider? We had our shots. We had some big
play shots. We knew
against that defense we had to hit those big plays. Each one that didn't materialize
just put us a little more
in the hole. But we had those shots, and those were big momentum boosts that we miss.
Was a little surprised
that they brought as many dogs as they did. They had a little pressure and hit Brodie
a couple of times, but he
kept bringing it. They're just a good defense. But I think it also shows that we can
be a good offense.

Brodie Croyle (#12 So. QB, 6-3 200 lbs. Rainbow City, AL - Westbrook Christian)

We lost. We don't see any good in losing. The number one team in the nation . who
cares. We're Alabama and we'
re supposed to win. We're never the underdogs. That's the way we look at it. It
happens that we lost, but we
can build off of it kind of like we did last year. We don't get another shot at them.
That's the bad thing
about it is we don't get another shot at them. Those guys are going to go a long way.

You took some pretty vicious hits out there. How does your body feel?

Ahh .. that's football. I expected it coming in. Those guys are big, fast, strong .
that's the reason they're
the number one defense in the country. They were bringing a lot of crazy blitzes at
us, nothing different than
we'd seen, but there's some things we can't pick up. As the quarterback, you have to
stand in there and take
it. We took some pretty hard ones, but I got a week to heal.

Shaud Williams (#21 Sr. TB, 5-8 191 lbs. Andrews, TX - Texas Tech transfer)

As a player, anytime you go into a ballgame there's no such thing as moral victories.
We came into this
ballgame expecting to win. I think the fans expected that too. It's one of those
things where you feel good
cause you played them close, but at the same time you want to come out with the
victory.

Justin Smiley (#78 Jr. LG, 6-4 293 lbs. Ellabell, GA - Southeast Bulloch)

Is there any sense of confidence knowing that you played the #1 team down to the wire
again this year?

I don't really believe in moral victories. People talk about that. They're a really
good team and you have to
give them all the credit, but it's like last season after the OU loss, I really didn't
think we were going to
lose another game after that. That's how I feel. I don't think we're going to lose
another game if we can play
the way we're supposed to play.

DeMeco Ryans (#35 So. SLB, 6-2 225 lbs. Bessemer - Jess Lanier)

Do you guys feel like you measured up pretty well to the #1 team in the nation?

I think it was an evenly matched game, you know. There wasn't a better team. There was
just the team that made
the big play at the right time.

It wouldn't have been somewhere else, Shula said. If
it hadn't been Alabama, I would have stayed where I was.

[RollTideFan] A quick thought on the game

2003-09-08 Thread Joel Perry
I am more proud of our team with this loss than I have been with some of our
wins. Nobody likes losing and some say moral victories aren't worth
anything. But in this case, the moral victory may be worth more this season
than a win.

For those of you that weren't there, it was a very proud moment to witness
the standing ovation that the Bama fans gave the players as they left the
field. I don't know if I've seen that before at BDS. The team and coaches
deserved it. In fact, they deserve it every game, win or lose.

Shula and Co. will have to get back up for the Wildcats this weekend. The
character of our team will be tested this week as preparations are made to
find a way to stop the Pillsbury ThrowBoy. If the players hang their heads
this week after the loss, Kentucky may just sneak in here and pull out a
victory.

Here's hoping the players and coaches don't let that happen.

There is a guy here at work who is a devout allbarn fan. I've known him for
many years and he's a great man. He delivers our mail and also works full
time as a waiter at a local steakhouse. For many years we've swapped jabs
when his team or mine is doing poorly. Each Christmas I buy him an allbarn

enjoy his comments about football and he is genuinely a good person )

Anyway, he took off the week after allbarn lost to USC so I didn't get a
chance to rag him about that game. This morning he was making his way around
the building, delivering the mail and getting blasted by all the Bama fans
he knows. He finally makes it to our office. He just came in, sat down, and
started to tear up. I mean real tears. I felt so sorry for him. So I just
said a few things and let it go. Fans like Ernest (that's his name) take
this stuff to heart. Some barner fans deserve all the crap we can throw at
them. But Ernest had been barraged by Bama fans since he arrived at work
this morning. The only reason I hate to see allbarn lose is because of how
Ernest enjoys seeing them win.

And the other barner fans in my office? In complete denial.

RE: [RollTideFan] barners in my office.....

2003-09-08 Thread Devan Orange
I went out to eat Saturday night with some friends and we went to
Applebee's.
Our waiter was an Auburn fan and he was really taking the loss hard.(Ga.
Tech had just made it 17-3)
He seemed to have a head on his shoulders, saying that they weren't as good
as everyone thought they would be and that no TDs was hurting worse than the
losses.
We had on Bama clothing and he kept saying, You guys will probably play
well enough to win tonight. and Bama might do it.
He was a classy guy and said that even though he likes Auburn and we Alabama
he was gonna be the best server we had ever had.
And you know what? I think he was.!

Fans like him I can handle, but I also laid into a guy at our church on
Sunday who said, We are huge on the O-Line...why didn't we just run right
at them? We should have killed them!
I told him that he needed a QB that could handle the pressure and I also
said they needed Daniel Cobb back
I ask him if they would score on Vandy since the 'Dores played so well
against Ole Miss in the opener!. This just ticked him.
Then I asked several of my friends if they wanted to see who could pick the
amount of quarters it would take for Auburn to put one in the endzone!
So I guess it just depends on the fans whether I get after them or not.

Y'all just keep right on feeling sorry for those candy-ass cry babies. They'll be the

I usually snip more than that, but I wanted to see it posted again. Excellent job
young Slef. Needless to say, IAWTFP! Get this

Slef, you are 110% right, on point and perfectly targeted. There are exceptions to
most rules and cow college is one of them. I don't hate much in life, but cow college
and anything to do with them is THE exception, for the same reasons as Slef stated. I
could add a few more, like booing when THE GREAT ONE's U.S. Postage stamp was unveiled
at Legion field..on and on. Shame on them and us for allowing them to exist in the
SEC or as part of Alabama.

Clueless. Most of them probably never saw MM's statement. The booing of
the opposition has become a bad habit as much as anything.

I sat in front of 4 Sooner fans during the game (sec JJ, row 17, seat
28). They were very knowledgeable and showed nothing but respect for
Bama. But they loved their Sooners, they left no doubt about that. One
of the Sooner guys at the beginning of the game said the game had the
feel of a National Championship game. They couldn't believe how loud the
place was. They kept bragging on Brodie Croyle, said they really liked
#12 and that he was very good. Believe it or not they also was on
Stoops' back during the game, felt that he was running to many gimmick
plays on offense. They said they loved Tuscaloosa and had had a great
day leading up to game time.

Roll Tide!!

I usually snip more than that, but I wanted to see it posted again. Excellent job
young Slef. Needless to say, IAWTFP! Get
this

Slef, you are 110% right, on point and perfectly targeted. There are exceptions to
most rules and cow college is one of
them. I don't hate much in life, but cow college and anything to do with them is THE
exception, for the same reasons as Slef
stated. I could add a few more, like booing when THE GREAT ONE's U.S. Postage stamp
was unveiled at Legion field..on and
on. Shame on them and us for allowing them to exist in the SEC or as part of Alabama.

Restraint? LOL We don't know what that is in our shop. We painted the

the gawd awful orange and blue. *gag* We play fight songs over the
intercom and get into discussions all the time with the barners. There
haven't been any assaults yet, but give it time. LOL

There is a guy here at work who is a devout allbarn fan. I've known him
for
many years and he's a great man. He delivers our mail and also works full
time as a waiter at a local steakhouse. For many years we've swapped jabs
when his team or mine is doing poorly. Each Christmas I buy him an allbarn
shirt, hat or jacket. (He's not rich by any means and I do this because I
enjoy his comments about football and he is genuinely a good person )

Anyway, he took off the week after allbarn lost to USC so I didn't get a
chance to rag him about that game. This morning he was making his way
around
the building, delivering the mail and getting blasted by all the Bama fans
he knows. He finally makes it to our office. He just came in, sat down,
and
started to tear up.

They'll be the FIRST DAMN ONES to give

I'm old enough to remember when arbrin fans were scarce as dinosaurs. They
acted the same way back in the 70's
and early 80's. Then when Coach died those same sweet, loveable barners
where painting their got damn trailers
orange and blue and putting 'We Killed The Bear' bumper stickers on their
station wagons! FRUCK THEM ALL - ALL

Then I asked several of my friends if they wanted to see who could pick
the
amount of quarters it would take for Auburn to put one in the endzone!
So I guess it just depends on the fans whether I get after them or not.
