[RollTideFan] (ain't) Anniversary gift

2005-05-28 Thread Jeff Todd
Rich man and a poor man have the same wedding
anniversary. They're both at Madison Avenue shopping
for their wives. Poor man says to the Rich man, What'd
you get your wife this year? He says, A Mercedes and
a huge diamond ring. The poor man says, Why'd you get
her both? The Rich man says, If she doesn't like the
ring, she can take it back happy. The Poor man says,
O.K. That works. The Rich man says, Well what did
you get your wife? The Poor man says, A pair of
slippers and a dildo. The Rich man says, Why'd you
get her a pair of slippers and a dildo? The Poor man
says, If she doesn't like the slippers, she can go
fuck herself

[RollTideFan] (ain't) First day of school

2005-05-28 Thread Jeff Todd
It was the first day of school in Marietta, Georgia,
and a new student named Suzuki, the son of a Japanese
businessman, entered the fourth grade.

The teacher said, Lets begin by reviewing some
American history. Who said Give me Liberty, or give me
Death?

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Suzuki, who
had his hand up. Patrick Henry, 1775, he said.

Very good Who said Government of the people, by the
people, for the people, shall not perish from the
earth? Again, no response except from Suzuki.
Abraham Lincoln, 1863., said Suzuki.

The teacher snapped at the class, Class, you should
be ashamed. Suzuki, who is new to our country, knows
more about its history than you do. he heard a loud
whisper: Fuck the Japs.

Who said that? she demanded. Suzuki put his hand up.
Lee Iacocca, 1982. At that point, a student in the
back said, Im gonna puke.

The teacher glares and asks All right Now, who said
that? Again, Suzuki says, George Bush to the
Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.

Now furious, another student yells, Oh yeah? Suck
this Suzuki jumps out of his chair waving his hand
and shouts to the teacher: Bill Clinton, to Monica
Lewinsky, 1997

Now with almost a mob hysteria someone said, You
little shit. If you say anything else, Ill kill you.
Suzuki frantically yells at the top of his voice,
Gary Condit to Chandra Levy 2001.

The teacher fainted. And as the class gathered around
the teacher on the floor, someone said, Oh shit, were
fucked.

Suzuki said, The Taliban 2001

[RollTideFan] (Ain't) MOO!

2005-04-05 Thread Jeff Todd
A man took his wife to the rodeo and one of the first
exhibits they stopped at was the breeding bulls.

They went up to the first pen and there was a sign
attached that said: This bull mated 50 times last
year.

The wife playfully nudged her husband in the ribs and
said: He mated 50 times last year.

They walked to the second pen which had a sign attached
that said: This bull mated 120 times last year.

The wife gave her husband a healthy jab and said:
That's more than twice a week! You could learn a lot
from him.

They walked to the third pen and it had a sign attached
that said, in capital letters: This bull mated 365
times last year.

The wife so excited that her elbow nearly broke her
husband's ribs, said: That's once a day. You could
REALLY learn something from this one.

The husband looked at her and said: Go over and ask him
if it was with the same cow.

All my life I've had either dogs or cats, and sometimes both. A dog is

affectionate only when it is ready. I enjoy the independence of cats and
like their company. They are happy with a food bowl and litter box. Easy

It's early morning
The sun comes out
Last night was shaking
And pretty loud
My cat is purring
And scratches my skin
So what is wrong
With another sin
The bitch is hungry
She needs to tell
So give her inches
And feed her well
More days to come
New places to go
I've got to leave
It's time for a show

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

My body is burning
It starts to shout
Desire is coming
It breaks out loud
Lust is in cages
Till storm breaks loose
Just have to make it
With someone I choose
The night is calling
I have to go
The wolf is hungry
He runs the show
He's licking his lips
He's ready to win
On the hunt tonight
For love at first sting

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane

In Germany's East, a Harvest of Silence
By MARK LANDLER

EIPZIG, Germany - In the flush of German reunification, Chancellor Helmut Kohl
declared that the former East German states would be transformed into blossoming
landscapes, where it will be worth living and working.

Germany backed up its promise with one of the greatest transfers of wealth in human
history: some $1.5 trillion has flowed from west to east since 1990, propping up
living standards and financing epic public works projects, among them a latticework of
superhighways.

But many roads lead nowhere. The landscape in eastern Germany remains barren - emptier
even than during Communist times, when the planned economy supplied jobs and at least
the illusion of commercial activity. Traveling through eastern Germany with a camera
15 years later offers a chance to document how tragically short a grand renovation
project has fallen.

Today, roughly one eastern German in five does not have a job, an unemployment rate
nearly twice that for Germany as a whole. The population has dwindled by 1.6 million
since 1990, to 15.1 million, as a steady stream of people, particularly young women,
have gone west in search of work. The ebb tide has devastated places like Hoyerswerda,
a small town that was turned into a model industrial city by the Communists.

With most of its jobs gone, the town has lost nearly half of its 70,000 inhabitants.
Empty apartment buildings darken the horizon like cement tombstones. Many fall to the
wrecking ball, their jagged remains a hunting ground for scavengers and boys with
slingshots.

Children seem almost an endangered species, since the couples who would start families
are precisely the ones who leave. Dresden, the proud but tattered capital of the state
of Saxony, is closing 43 schools this summer because there are not enough kids to fill
the classrooms.

Germans, worried that the languishing east threatens to hobble the entire country,
have begun a national debate over what went wrong. The answer supplied recently by a
blue-ribbon commission is stark: too much money spent on bricks and mortar, not enough
on people.

One can see the legacy of feckless investment in Saxony, once the industrial heart of
East Germany. Rust-belt cities like Chemnitz, formerly Karl Marx Stadt, are full of
shuttered factories. Many were bought after 1990 by western Germans, who found they
could not churn out ball bearings or grinding machinery or auto parts cheaply enough
to make a go of it.

In the wake of that futile gold rush, a more serious class of investors has come,
putting up microchip factories in Dresden and automobile factories around Leipzig.
Drawn as much by public subsidies as by patriotism, they nevertheless offer a reed of
hope for an industrial renaissance.

Eastern Germany's problems, however, will not be solved by yet another BMW plant. The
real challenge is human: how to transform a society reared on Communism and addicted
to handouts from Berlin into a vital region ready to compete with hungrier lands to
the east.

These days, some Ossis, as eastern Germans are not so affectionately called by western
Germans, rouse themselves only to protest the government's plan to scale back
unemployment checks. Former state farms lie fallow because their new owners see no
economic benefit to tilling the fields. Where wheat and oats once grew, weeds and
wildflowers now run riot.

Helmut Kohl's promise of a blossoming landscape came true after all. But surely not as
he intended.

Thanks for sharing this Sleffie. I spent more than a few weeks working in
East Germany after I got a European Out from the Army. I would have
stayed in Germany had my 1st marriage held together. But I digress..I
worked as a civilian over there with a good friend of mine in a similar
situation, talking to the local people who were curious about the Americans.
They had never seen a black man in person (my buddy Mike was 6'3, 275 lbs),
much less an American black man. We could understand their German well
enough and were invited to eat dinner with many families too poor to feed us
(we insisted on paying), but were very hospitable. The food was better in
the smaller farm communities. Anyway, the people I came in contact with
were relieved to finally be free. Some towns had seen upwards of %20 of
their population disappear after they were heard saying the wrong thing to
the wrong person. The Stasi were ruthless.

The people I met were hopeful, and determined to succeed. They are lacking
in education (I know where they are coming from, LOL) and infrastructure and
industry, but I think that if the Socialist government over there repeals
some taxes and restores incentive to succeed, they will have a fighting
chance.

Joe
To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his
father's has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose
fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate
arbitrarily the first principle of association-the guarantee to every one of
a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.

1990 by western Germans, who found they could not churn out ball bearings or
grinding machinery or auto parts cheaply enough to make a go of it.

In the wake of that futile gold rush, a more serious class of investors
has come, putting up microchip factories in Dresden and automobile factories
around Leipzig. Drawn as much by public subsidies as by patriotism, they
nevertheless offer a reed of hope for an industrial renaissance.

Eastern Germany's problems, however, will not be solved by yet another BMW
plant. The real challenge is human: how to transform a society reared on
Communism and addicted to handouts from Berlin into a vital region ready to
compete

Kerry Legal Team Member Is Issued Citation

A member of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's national legal team
received a citation on accusations he solicited a prostitute, but the aide said it was
the result of a misunderstanding.

Former Michigan Democratic Party chairman Melvin Butch Hollowell, 44, who left his
party post earlier this month, was pulled over Tuesday night by Wayne County sheriff's
deputies not far from his home in the Palmer Woods neighborhood.

Deputies saw Hollowell pick up a woman and followed him briefly before making the
stop, sheriff's department spokesman John Roach told The Detroit News for a Friday
story. Hollowell was not arrested and was released after his vehicle was impounded. He
and the woman both were issued citations, Roach said.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hollowell called the incident all a gross
misunderstanding. Hollowell said he saw a woman he thought was in distress and
stopped to help her.

The officers indicated that the woman was a known prostitute, Hollowell said. No
one was more surprised and embarrassed than me when the officers told me this.

I am confident that these untrue charges will be dismissed quickly and I will be
completely cleared, said Hollowell, who is married and has two children.

Hollowell, a lawyer who once ran for Michigan secretary of state, planned to step down
from his position on Kerry's legal team until the citation case is resolved, WXYZ-TV
of Detroit reported.

Kerry's campaign had no comment late Thursday. We're still collecting information and
we have no further comment at this time, said Rodell Mollineau, a Kerry spokesman.

A city attorney could not immediately be reached Thursday.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm appointed Hollowell to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission
last week. He contacted her office Thursday and said he planned to resign the
appointment, Granholm spokesman Liz Boyd said.

We are disappointed by the resignation and were totally taken by surprise, Boyd
said. The civil rights position is unpaid, and would been subject to consent of the
Republican-controlled state Senate.

Greg McNeilly, executive director of Michigan Republican Party, said the party does
not feel it is a political issue or an issue for public discussion. Our sympathies
are with him and his family as he works this out, McNeilly said.

[RollTideFan] [Ain't] Prozac seeping into water supplies

2004-08-08 Thread Jeff Todd
THE anti-depressant drug Prozac is being taken in such large quantities in Britain
that it has entered water supplies.

Experts from the Environmental Agency are calling for an immediate investigation after
it emerged that quantities of the medication were found in rivers and groundwater used
for drinking supplies.

The government's environmental watchdog has met officials from leading pharmaceutical
companies to discover whether traces of the drug could have an impact on the nation's
health or the ecosystem.

A recent report by the Environmental Agency concluded the Prozac, dubbed the happy
pill in the United States where it is hugely popular for its mood-lifting qualities,
could be potentially toxic. It also branded its presence a potential concern.

Experts have also voiced concerns that the drug, which they believe has found its way
into the water system from treated sewage water, could seriously damage the human
reproductive system.

Exact amounts of Prozac detected in British waters have not been specified but the
government's Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) said it was likely that the drug has
been found in such diluted concentrations that health risks involved will be minimal.

Despite this, the discovery will raise concerns that GPs are over-prescribing the
pill, Britain's most popular anti-depressant drug.

In the decade up to 2001, prescriptions of Prozac rose from nine million to 24 million
a year.

Dr Andy Crawford, the Environmental Agency policy manager for pesticides said an
investigation was needed to find how such traces of the drug impacts health.

We need to determine the effects of this low-level, almost continuous discharge, he
said.

Norman Baker, environmental spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, said people needed to
know what risks were involved.

This looks like a case of hidden mass medication upon the unsuspecting public, he
said. It is alarming there is no monitoring of levels of Prozac and other pharmacy
residues in our drinking water.

European studies in the past have raised fears about the build-up of drugs in the
environment and highlighted that a negative impact of this upon human health and that
of wildlife cannot be excluded.

However, a DWI spokesman was confident all such health risks are eliminated before
drinking water reaches people's homes.

Advanced treatment processes installed for pesticide removal are effective in
removing drug residues, he said.

Facts is facts, wherever they originate from. If you read the article, you will see it
did not originate from CNN, but from Reuters.

A copy of the guide obtained by Reuters directs religious volunteers to send church
directories to state campaign committees, identify new churches that can be organized
by the Bush campaign and talk to clergy members about holding voter registration
drives.

The document, distributed to campaign coordinators across the country earlier this
year, also recommends that volunteers distribute voter guides in church and use Sunday
service programs for get-out-the-vote drives.

Apparantly the Bush campaign admits it..since they issued a response:

We expect this election to be potentially as close as 2000, so every vote counts and
it's important to reach out to every single supporter of President Bush, campaign
spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

Who is endorsing what? Drug use? Nope. Not me. But I am all for a man
who has over a decade of living clean and sober. Recovery does work.
Unlike Clinton, I am sure he inhaled when he snorted. Show me someone who
hasn't made a mistake, and I'll show you someone who isn't doing anything. I
just have a problem when they keep making the same mistakes over and over
without learning from them.

And the be-headings.

[RollTideFan] AIN'T GOP Looks to Limit Class-Action Suits

2004-06-01 Thread Jeff Todd
By JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - After trying to curb class-action suits for years, Republicans finally
have enough support to ram legislation through the Senate to limit what they call an
overabundance of frivolous cases against American businesses. But a decision by Senate
Majority Leader Bill Frist to push forward immediately on that legislation instead of
finishing work on a defense bill may have the effect of forcing the GOP to wait even
longer before claiming a victory that big business has sought for years.

The Senate will vote Tuesday on whether to act immediately on the bill to move more
class-action suits from state to federal courts instead of continuing work on the
Defense Department's $422 billion authorization bill. That was the pending business
when the Senate recessed for its holiday break on May 21.
Several Democrats have promised to join with the GOP to give Republicans the 60 votes
they need to move the class-action bill to passage. But those same Democrats are
expected to refuse to vote to abandon the defense legislation to do it.
They believe in class-action reform a lot, but they are not going to vote to skip
over the defense bill, said Assistant Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. We believe
we should finish the defense bill and then go to class action.
Frist wanted to put the defense bill off because Democrats are refusing to agree to a
limit on amendments, and Frist wants extra time to negotiate. Moving to class action
would give Frist that time.
The class-action bill does have strong bipartisan support, and we would like to
finish that bill in a reasonable period of time, Frist said.
The GOP bill would move more class-action lawsuits - where one person or a small group
represents the interests of an entire class of people in court - out of state courts
where juries are often more generous to plaintiffs, and into federal courts where
awards typically are smaller.
Senate Republicans and the corporate community, for whom curbing class-action lawsuits
is a major priority, say businesses are drowning in frivolous lawsuits while trial
lawyers profit handsomely by sometimes just threatening legal action.
We are extremely pleased that after six years the United States Senate will finally
have the opportunity to debate and vote on legislation to fix the country's broken
state court class-action system, said Stanton Anderson, executive vice president of
the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (news - web sites)., who called the bill moderate and
reasonable.
But many Senate Democrats and other opponents say the legislation only helps
businesses escape judgments for wrongdoing. Huge damage awards are needed to ensure
corporations play by the rules, they say.
Federal judges, opponents say, will either throw many of the cases out or be less
likely to issue multimillion-dollar judgments against corporations if the bill is
passed.
The Senate proposal is designed to kill the use of class-action lawsuits, which have
resulted in decisions that not only provide refunds to consumers and others injured by
corporate wrongdoing, but also require changes to business practices that have cheated
consumers, workers and even local and state governments, said a statement from
USAction, a liberal, pro-consumer activist group.
GOP senators fell one vote short of achieving a filibuster-proof, 60-vote majority in
October. But now several Democrats, including Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and
Charles Schumer of New York, have agreed to support the legislation.
Democrats feared some of their state constituents would lose their right to sue in
their own courts. Under the deal, Democrats get additional exceptions in the bill that
they say will preserve class-action lawsuits that belong in state court.
