In fact, I'll be sending my 5UKP just as soon as I've completed the coding challenge in one line of Basic... Now I just have to find a sensible way to edit a single BASIC line which will probably end up close to filling a MODE3 text screen; arrgh, KEYIN only handles strings up to about 512bytes! OTOH I can probably hack about with the program format and merge adjacent lines together, anybody done that sort of thing before? (I know about correcting the line lengths at the start of each line, is there a Program End sysvar I need to watch out for too?) I think that Sam Community issue 2 is cool, and will also be subscribing. I am also intersested in getting hold of a decent Sam, and would love to get it hooked up to a hard disk, and Quazar sound. I used to have a speccy and remember the initial fuss about the Sam, but never got round to getting one, therefore I only know about the Sam from Sim and Wincoupe...can someone please explain how the bdos/atom stuff works to me, in relatively simple terms ? RE: SAM Community iss 2
can someone please explain how the bdos/atom stuff works to me, in relatively simple terms ? Well, put simply the ATOM is an IDE interface with two channels that attaches to the second FDD connector (or to the external bus if you have one of those models) BDOS allows for the hard disc to be split up into 800K 'records' which are accessed as virtual second disc drives i.e. D2 is the record on the hard disc. Records are selected from BASIC with the extended SAMBasic commands or straight from code. The later BDOS's from Martijn have support for CDROM drives too. I have a modified ROM which boots BDOS from the hard disc (gleaned from Persona so I'm not sure where you can source on from ATM) Full details on Andrew's site: http://mnemotech.ucam.org/downloads/BDOSINFO4.txt Dan. I don't know why everyone is talking about issue 2 - it's issue 3 that you just received :) And Matt, you're already a subscriber...glad you liked it though. I am also intersested in getting hold of a decent Sam, and would love to get it hooked up to a hard disk, and Quazar sound. Go for it - I can stick an advert in the next issue of SC for a second hand SAM for you if you like. And I'm still trying to get round to getting an Atom myself - last time I spoke to Len he had trouble getting a bracket for the internal version (which needs 2.5 drives). However, I bought a 17gig hard drive for my PC a month ago and the PC motherboard blew a week later, so maybe I'll get an external Atom after all, and see if I can fill the 17 gig with SAM stuff ;) (What's the biggest drive anyone has tried with the Atom?) As i understand Edwin has tested the Atom with a 6.4gig drive, it worked perfectly. One question remains then, what the hell do you do with 8000 empty records Robert van der Veeke aka RJV Graphics [EMAIL PROTECTED] Currently listening to : The Bone Collector - OST I don't know for what purpose this list was created???
