A bit of both, if memory serves. It was mostly there to direct the Doctor and
his companions when it was needed, and once it moved the TARDIS to help the
Doctor. It never did speak, simply point a lot. Looked kinda like a glowing
mummy.

Back in '81, when Tom Baker's Doctor regenerated in Logopolis, there was a
ghostly figure lurking nearby through part of the ep. The Doctor seemed to know
who it was, and was duly unnerved at its presence. At the end, after the Doctor
was injured saving the Universe, the figure appeared, reaching out to him as he
lay dying, muttering, The moment has been provided for. Turns out that the
figure was the Doctor's next incarnation, there to facilitate the regeneration.

You're right, I should get some UK friends. They have a really
interesting scifi world, I've noticed. I do read a great mag,
Dreamwatch, based in Britain, and love it. Anyone on the group hail
from Britain?
How'd you manage to see the series before anyone else? Was it available
on DVD before Sci Fi showed it, or do you have a satellite setup that
gets British TV?

I can't say whether this counts as a spoiler for the later series, but I'll
treat it as though it were.

The references to the War have been in several of the New Adventures novels.
If the series chooses to treat this as canon, then the Doctor isn't the last of
the Time Lords. There are definitely three more, and possibly others in hiding,
because the War was fairly unpopular among the other races of the Universe
(witness the part of Rose where the Nestene Intelligence is raging at the
Doctor, who replies anguishedly, I tried to save the other races!). Strangely
enough, I'm in two other Doctor Who fan groups, and neither has yet to post a
single thing about the series. Guess I need to rattle cages there...

Re: [scifinoir2] Re: Dr. Who Premieres on Sci Fi Channel Friday Night!

2006-03-18 Thread Cat Corley
I think David Tenant did a good job as well. I actually thought that
the Christmas Invasion was the beginning of the new season. I still
haven't heard an actual date for the new season . You?

Christopher Eccleston was also in The Others with Nicole Kidman. He

He didn't want to be typecasted as The Doctor either.
Don't worry, however his replacement picks up

Best of my knowledge (my source being a guy in another group who lives in North
London), they're still filming the new series, and they're backed up a bit
because they're also filming the spin-off, Torchwood at the same time. There
are a few teasers on the Who main website at http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho

Is Eccleston the one on the series from 2005, the one on the Sci Fi
Channel's current run? When did you get a chance to see the replacement
already? I thought the series was being delayed in release time from the
UK to the US.

My understanding from my source is that The CHristmas Invasion was sort of a
treat to hold us over till the new series came along.

I can't wait to learn more about the War. It's been hinted at in several of the
New Adventures novels over the past few years, but I don't have anywhere here
in Atlanta that sells them regularly anymore, since SciFi/Mystery closed its
doors, so i haven't been able to read them. If anyone wants what might be
spoilers, ask me privately.
