RE: SD pulling engine and trans together?
. Unhook Coolant Lines and Drain Rad then remove it 10mm 2. Unhook Fuel Lines (be mindful of the pressure, 50 PSI stings the eyes) 3. Unplug the computer wiring harness 4. Undo the exhaust flange bolts, probably have to cut them as they'll be rusted 13mm 5. Jack up front of the car 6. Take off rims 7. Get someone to stand on the brakes and loosen the axle nut off 1 1/4inch 8. Tie Rod Ends 17mm 9. Ball joint bolts 15mm bolt 17mm nut 10. Pop the tie rod ends out and same with the ball joints, you may have to swing the swaybar down to get at the ball joint, it's 13mm bolt and nut you have to do both sides 11. Put a pan under the tranny and Swing the spindle back and slide the drivers side axle out 12. Swing back the passenger side spindle and slide the outside of the axle from the spindle 13. Undo the intermietate shaft 13mm bolts holding it onto the block 14. Pull axle 15. Since you are junking it, cut the power steering lines, if you aren't 15mm bolts take the power steering pump to freedom 16. Unhook vacuum line to :Boost gauge, Map sensor, Brake Booster 17. Undo or break off battery tray corner with Cruise control on it 18. Unhook Throttle/cruise cables 19. Undo tranny selector cable (unsure as to the bolt size as I only have done 5spds) and remove hood 10mm 20. Attach chain to the Intake neck behind the TB and to the passenger side motor mount 21. Raise hoist until it is tight 22. Undo passenger side mount 13mm 23. Undo front mount 15mm both sides 24. Undo long bolt on tranny mount 15mm 25. (Only if junking car) get out the hacksaw/sawzall and cut off the bracket that the tranny bolts too that is attached to the frame rail 26. Pull Motor That is the best I can do from recollection alone all the bolt sizes are right though I'm sure of it. If you run into any snags LMK, also any hose clamp you run into will be an 8mm and 7mm on the fuel lines If I missed anything please feel free to add Garret Werstiuk http://shelbyz.cjb.net From: Ryan Lada [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SD pulling engine and trans together? RE: SD Re: Panhard rod
Track bar is the same thing as a Panhard rod they both center the rear of the car over the axle, but the stock one is flimsy and allows too much movement via the rubber bushings and the general weaky of the bar. The CSRacer one is Hella solid and it's a must for lowered vehicles because you can retain proper centering because if you lower with the stock bar it will push everything over to the passenger side of your car Garret Werstiuk http://shelbyz.cjb.net From: Daniel J. Standaert [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: SDML [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SD LSD talk. Date: Sat, 21 Aug 2004 10:04:05 -0700 (PDT) I was looking into getting a LSD for my 523 transmission--obviously the options are just a quaife and a LSD that does metal-to-metal friction. My question is... how do the LSD's hold up over time? obviously every corner you take will cause the metal-on-metal to slip (at slow speed = ok), and in my book, metal on metal like this is not good for anything (metal shavings/etc??) Theoretically that wouldn't be much of a problem either with the magnet right there ready to do its job. I'm seriously worried about going hard around a corner, get a little too much into the gas and when that inside wheel suddenly spins 3x the speed of the other wheel for a second or so, thats a grinding wheel to me. (installing a FM underdrive pulley without grinding the seal housing off first comes to mind) Most factory style LSD's have friction discs that are meant to slip to a certain degree. Right now I kinda see the Quaife as a bit of overkill for my application, but it should last forever. Whereas the LSD would be more suitable, but this seems more like a drag setup than a street setup. I want it for street use. I can't count the number of times i got pissed because all the car could do on that onramp is spin the inside tire. I want to alleviate that problem, but don't expect it to go away completely. RE: SD Factory white turbo valve covers
What is so hard to believe that some manifolds were painted white? I had an 88 Pacifica that was 100% stock when I got it and it had a white valve cover, white under the sticker as well. So you're telling me that somehow an unpainted valve cover got paint on it or clear coat and that paint/clear coat turned a silver aluminium v/c to white? I highly doubt that. I have no doubts that chrysler painted some v/cs white, how about that they never made an extended wheel base turbo mini factory? anyone else see on Gary donovan's page that they did just was never documented. I have only seen 2 of these white V/Cs before every other one I've seen have just been bare aluminium that were not on factory T2 cars, all you people who are saying oh that can't happen or they are just faded just settle down and accept that some of them were painted white. That being said, I will go to the junkyard a buy up all the White valve covers there and begin selling there rare items for those of you who think they exist. The price will be $400 since they are probably 3 times rarer than a Shelby valve cover. If $400 is too high I will accept cast Shelby valve covers as partial payment. I have been playing with turbo dodges since I was 15 and bought my first '84 SC. In my 17 years of playing with them I have seen the covers you guys are talking about. They are late model silver covers that have faded from being inside an engine compartment next to a turbo that gets so hot it glows. Think about what you are saying. That would mean Dodge made a white engine compartment piece that would show oil leaks. Think of all the warranty work they would have. In the pics below I see a faded silver valve cover. Date: Sat, 6 Aug 2005 22:51:13 -0700 (PDT) How do you go about re-clocking the shift lever on a 523 / 543 / 568 transmission? It can't easily be done because it is keyed so there is only one position it can go back on. Just like how a steering wheel is keyed. The pressure plate fork thing is also keyed in the same manor. I suppose there is no real reason you cannot attack it with a dremel and a file and then re-clock it. Before I'd do anything, I would do what the others suggested and lift up on the clutch pedal to see if it will adjust itself. I got bummed out once because I thought I incorrectly installed my clutch somehow because the pedal did exactly this. All I had to do was press and release the pedal, lift it a bit, and repeat a couple times and it felt like a brand new clutch. It was a brand new clutch. - Do you Yahoo!? Re: SD 185-65-15's on Shelby Charger
But in the Snow, narrow tires cut through the snow better allowing you to get through it better, I mean up here in canada we get 5-6 inches of snow in a snow fall and I run 195/65/15s on my daytona in the winter and I've never gotten stuck. I'm wondering if anyone has used this size before on thier Charger. Any problems with rubbing? I drove an 83 Charger years ago that had 175-70-13's and nothing would get that thing stuck. RE: SD Turbo Dodge Deal of the Year concluded
Yeah rob got quite the deal on that one he's a local guy to me Garret Werstiuk http://shelbyz.cjb.net From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: shelby-dodge@imagicomm.com Subject: SD Turbo Dodge Deal of the Year concluded Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2006 02:06:31 EDT Hello to all, This will be my final post to this list as I have sold both of my extremely clean cars and a more than 15 year accumulation of parts. Two really nice guys named Glenn and Rob from Winnipeg drove 1000 miles each way to pick up the 1989 Lutz Daytona and a 1992 Spirit. Local club members who have seen the cars know they look like new, had great paint, and were in great shape overall. Each car was also modified with high quality parts. Venolia and JE pistons, Eibach Springs, Koni Shocks, Aquamist water injection, etc. etc. Suspensions were rebuilt, with new control arm bushings, tie rod ends, etc. and the Daytona has a new steering rack. Three Quaifes (two brand new and one with 10k miles), two fresh rebuilt trannies (555 and 568), two sets of new Venolia pistons, 3 2.5 crankshafts, loads of small parts like bearings, rings, valve guides, rod bolts, etc. etc. The deal also included a running 2.2 engine from my beater with ported head and modified turbo, and too many parts to mention. Plus, a like new set of Konig 17 inch wheels and tires with 90% of the tread remaining. Only local members that have been in my garage would realize the depth of the accumulation and the unusually large amount spent on spare parts. The guys came down with a huge pickup truck with a cap on it and we filled that to the top with boxes of parts. They also had a large trailer for the Daytona and we boxed the end of the trailer in with lumber I had here and stacked bins of parts there and also filled the space under the car. Also, each car was filled with parts and the Spirit was driven back by Rob and Glenn drove the pickup with the trailer attached. What mystifies me is that more people (especially our local guys) didn't pool together to buy all this stuff. $5000 bought both cars and all the parts, and the parts alone were worth that. I think the problem is that most people on the list could not comprehend another member giving such a good deal and having so many high quality parts in reserve. This was a one-time deal that will probably never be duplicated on this list or anywhere else. I felt sad driving the cars out of the storage garage to my house for the last ride, but I have to move on. Other non-automotive projects are taking too much of my time and I can't work as much in the garage as I used to. Hopefully, I leave the list with a good reputation for never ripping anyone off, and having sold things to club members at fair to fabulous prices. Thanks to all who were supportive and helped me enjoy this wonderful hobby. Regards, Jerry Caviani, Ann Arbor, MI ---REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING Questions? RE: SD 16 valve conversion
For the price I paid, we should all use holset turbos, and yes this intake manifold I made will clear a stock radiator as well. Even the stock Stratus 2.4 intake will clear an omni rad, HOWEVER you will have to use a slim fan or a pusher fan Garret Werstiuk From: Rich Bryant [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Garret Werstiuk [EMAIL PROTECTED] CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: SD 16 valve conversion Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2007 00:35:02 + (UTC) Ok. :) The intake wouldn't clear many radiators from the looks of things. That is the thing I worry about the most for when I start my 2.4 conversion. Good work keep us posted on your results!
