Re: CSStopping bleeding

2003-12-15 Thread Charles Sutton
I use cayenne powder on my cuts and scrapes. I have used it many, many
times on my dogs when they get into a scrap. It produces an immediate scab,
which is very tough. One of my guys got a cut on his ear about half an inch
long. The cayenne stopped the bleeding and the scab was so that I could
press the ear back together. You can't tell where the tear was at all now.
It also sterilizes the would. I understand in the old west that those
unlucky enough to be shot pressed the pepper powder into the wound, to stop
bleeding and sterilize it. Most of this from Dr. Schultze. But I use it
extensively.

 List,

It's said, though I have no personal experience with it, that cayenne will
stop bleeding, as will yarrow leaves packed into a wound in the woods

Often I wonder if we do not stop bleeding too quickly.

After I soaked the spider bite, and it softened up, by pumping the calf muscle, I could force out
bright red blood. Not very much, but at least this meant the fluids were flowing in the right direction.

Or, at least I thought that to be true. Could I be wrong in my thinking.

Seems almost too obvious to mention, but there is a very good suction
pump tool widely available in camping stores. It is for snake bites,
spider bites, and bee stings, and seems quite well made and reliable.
It is less than 20 bucks. Seems a good thing to have on hand. . .
though I know also that using electricity works wonders on mosquitoes
bites in my experience.

Check REI for the suction tool.

What we now know as powdered sugar was used during the civil war to stop
bleeding (amputions - legs, arms, hands, gunshots etc.) and to prevent
infections. I keep a small jar full of it when I am chopping onions etc.
and my finger gets in the way. Works quite well - now to figure out how to
keep my fingers from interferring with the knife. CU - Marjie

...I always burned my warts with a soldering iron, then cut them out,
before discovering CS. I have found that a styptic pencil can work
quite well
to stop the bleeding without creating too much additional dead tissue.

Shudder As long as we're talking about styptic pencils and wounds, I
discovered that plain SALT can stop bleeding as well. Just place it on the
wound
 and let it dry.

Hi Wayne:

I believe that you are correct. New wounds should be allowed to bleed, WITHIN
REASON, as this is a cleansing process.

The only problem occurs when a wound will not stop, and cayenne is indeed a
very powerful substance!

Best Regards,

Jason
