Re: [RCSE] Official rule change for F3B/J
It would seem to me that it would have been simpler and possibly safer to require attaching a parachute of some minimum diameter to any object made of metal or weighing more than a few ounces. If the line breaks or the device (stake) comes loose the parachute will quickly dissipate the energy. Anker - Original Message - From: James V. CIAM Home Page: http://www.fai.org/aeromodelling/ _ The FAI Model Aircraft Commission has for safety reasons decided to introduce the following amendment, as approved by the Chairman of the CIAM RC-Soaring Subcommittee, to the Sporting Code concerning classes F3B F3J : F3B 5.3.2.2.b.a.3. replace the last sentence of the first line to read: "It is prohibited to attach the line to the ground or to any fixed object (Whilst hand towing)". F3J 5.6.8.2. add after the first sentence: "It is prohibited to attach the line to the ground or to any fixed object (Whilst hand towing)". The purpose of this rule change is to eliminate dangerous devices like stakes or pins when hand towing RC gliders. Volume F3BJ of Section 4 of the FAI Sporting Code now includes these amendments. Re: [RCSE] extreme extreme extremely boring - oh yeah!
Having someone build their own ships for them, you mean? Now wait a minute! One of these guys shaped his own fuse plug, pulled a nose cone mold and fuse mold, shaped and molded an inner nosecone mold. Used these molds to build his own fuse. This same guy bagged his stabs, bagged his rudder. The wing molds - sanded, polished and waxed for tens of hours prepping these for pulling parts. (Brian Buas helped rubbing and buffing.) Then - worked side by side as the wings were being molded. I admit, I had some help. Brian McClean came down to do the lay-up on the wings. I was running out of time. He did a great job! I now have all the components to complete the first proto. Going into build out - servo installation frenzy in the next couple of days. Hopefully I'll be able to fly the first proto this weekend, probably late Sunday afternoon at my local slope. That is, of course, if the foamies will give me a 10 minute window. ;-) The model looks pretty impressive - 132" span, and the stiffest set of components I've ever seen. It's definitely not light, but it is stout! I do need some help from a machinist out there. Need a steel joiner machined. Norm, can ya help me out? Anyone willing to help me out with a joiner, please e-me. I'll give you dimensions. It needs to be cut, not bent due to the wing mounting system. Divide 10 into 5 and get .5. Put root pull string at 36 and the tip pull string at 18 (.5 x 36). .. That would be correct, if you could attach your pull wires (clip attachment point on a setup like the FeatherCut) at the exact end of the foam blank, but that can not be done. You will have to attach your pull points, slightly outboard of that point. Farther out on a heavy tapered panel. You should then work out the cord at the point of pull attachment. On a highly tapered panel, you should cut to a point and pull the wire from one end only. That inch or two can make a big difference. AL _ Hi, Al, You couldn't be more correct. BTW I have prepared a small downloadable Excel file in my site in order to calculate that "big difference". To be honest this file should be adopted to calculate the correct template length if you keep them far (1-2 cm) from the foam during the cut, but nothing impedes to use this file for this purpose. If you can't afford to buy the program, then the demo Model Design program can do the calculation. You just won't be able to plot a full sized template. [RCSE] JR X-388S Manual Source? and other HELP, please.
A pal of mine recently got a batch of used RC gear for free and is sorting through it. I'm playing the role of mentoring him into the hobby, mostly glider, maybe a little electric. Included in this rather nice haul of planes and gear is a JR X-388S radio, not used in at least a year. 1)Anyone have ideas about where to get our hands on a manual for it? 2)What type of memory system does it have, and if it is lithium battery based, what's involved in trying to assure that things are ready to use and that we're not at the end of the life of that battery? Any other comments about the useability, programmability, or other features, pros, and cons of this unit would be welcome. He (we) will be using it in glider and perhaps electric applications. I'll be happy to forward onlist or offlist responses to my pal, as he is not a list member (yet). Thanks all, Lift, Scobie in Seattle RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Rubber Ducky Antenna
I just got off the phone with the manufacturer and the prices for 'rubber ducky' antenna are going up. I'm allowed to make one order at the old price. So, if you want a rubber ducky antenna at the old price of $24 for non ball mount, or $20 for ball mount, please contact me ASAP. I'll place the order NLT friday. Color choices are black, red, light blue, pink and yellow. Ball mount antenna will fit Stylus, JR and MPX Profi radios that use a screw on antenna. Non ball mount use an adapter and a BNC connector. Typical radios that will use this type are Vision and most Futaba radios. Shipping is not included in the above prices. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] extreme extreme extremely boring - oh yeah!
So what's your point? You didn't use any balsa ribs, you didn't use any covering like silkspan, tissue or monocote. The wing probably isn't bent in the middle and doesn't have any saggy areas between the ribs. How can you say you build your own planes when you haven't done any of those things??? Cripes, I'll bet you even want credit for building when you when ahead and put flaps and ailerons on the thing! Installing servos inside the WINGS, for gosh sakes, cannot be considered building... [RCSE] F3J?
The times they are a changin (Bob Dylan) Lots of interesting comments concerning the rule (or proposed rule change?) I think it will be something we will have to address. Go with the flow! Make it work!! If we want to fly F3J. I know everyone isn't into F3J, But for us who are? Good positive consideration is needed.. I will agree! It is a bit over reacting to shut down everything because on one incident. Stuff happens in all sports and hobbies It is very unfortunate that this happened.. I feel for the friends and family ! This is to allot of people just a hobby.. This isn't suppose to happen! But when you get a bunch of very competitive pilots together and compete at a fairly aggressive level. Then its a sport... Personally I think there are a few more possibilities of something happening with two men towing. Either apposeing tow's , Or formation tow's// There is allot of change going on in our sport.. Look at hand launch! The International will be a whole new ball game this year... Something to try and keep up with!!! The gliders for Unlimited,F3J,F3b they all change,, Another thing to keep up with,, Glider clubs loosing their fields all over the country... Another thing to keep up with,,, I think this sport could be in danger due to lack of land !!! Its just to pricey to have for a hobby!!! Or someone just doesn't like it So move it!! People can be that way.. Hell! we get people who build a house next to an airport and then complain about the noise!! Want to move the airport!! So it seems like we are at the mercy of many things that can effect us. We need to adjust the best we can. Or we may just go nuts! Cheers Charlie RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
