Re: [RCSE] MOM
Lee, You need to contact pat Crosby in Chicago, he has a window based program that even allows a pilots pic to be on his score card. Really slick and way better than any data base system. He can stay ahead of a contest so that after the big boys fly, the special needs group is ready to go, after the first round has seeded everything out, and that is the secret of keeping a SMOM contest going, no standing around waiting. And its easy enough to use that we use it during a regular monthly club contest. Re: [RCSE] MOM scoring software
Take a look at http://www.scoring.dh-web.com/. It works well for us in the ESL. It can even be made to support seeded man-on-man by selecting the seeded groups manually from the cumulative standings after each round and then entering the seeded group # along with each contestants score (overriding the randomly generated group # by the program) in the subsequent round. Re: [RCSE] MOM scoring software
Many attempts at doing MOM with computer fail because of adequate preparation and backup process, always in case the first fails. I am a firm believer that a MOM contest can be run quicker than manual scoring. I just have not seen the software that can do it yet. With larger displays getting cheaper I can see a contest as large as the NATS to be run as a seeded MOM contest. It's possible. Now Ben we expect to see a report on the variety of scoring information you have acquired. :-) Steve Meyer SOAR LSF IV At 06:40 PM 5/31/2006, Marc Gellart wrote: Ben, The best program for seeded MOM is a good calculator and someone who is good with math and has a good attention span. Bob Schiedt comes to mind. There have been attempts but with the scoring and seeding, no one has got it to work like you would want it to and like you can with cards and the right person or two can do. Not the answer you wanted, but I have watched guys try to work this out on a computer and all they did was cause a constipated contest. Marc RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. S Meyer wrote: Now Ben we expect to see a report on the variety of scoring information you have acquired. :-) I'll get to that after I steal Bob Schiedt's brain and map it into a neural network, fashion a bust of his head, install a computer inside of it, and have it eat people's scoresheets at contests. You *do not* want to see where the printer goes! All kidding aside, this appears to be a topic that induces much head-scratching and hand-wringing. Suprising then, that I didn't find much info or many examples via Google. Then again, the word mom is too generic, and man-on-man brings up some REALLY interesting sites. In the end, I'll be sure to share with the group what I find. (And for those of you wondering, the scoring at the MidSouths isn't up to me - I'm just interested in how people do it, and being a web developer/programmer, I salivate at a good complicated design challenge) Thanks again! RE: [RCSE] MOM scoring
Thanks guys - I've had several emails explaining how to do MoM scoring - that is not the problem - I do it for our club contests every month - we always run MoM! The issue is that someone wants to use the landings only as tiebreakers - NOT ADDED INTO THE SCORES. So the question remains, and make it simple - a 10 minute task. Under the rule that landings only are used as tiebreakers, we can easily determine placing, but what are the scores we use? Did both pilot 1 and 2 get 1000 point rounds? Do we wait until the end and then add in the landings for the tied scores then? So do they get points for those landings somehow? So if I have a 2 pilots that are each a total of 4 seconds off the time but had crappy landings of 30 and 35 points, and another guy that was 5 seconds off the total time, but got 100 landing, the first 2 pilots are the winners of 1st and 2nd place? And what is their final score? Assume a one round contest for now to make it easy. Remember I don't want their PLACE - I want how many points they earned at the end of the contest towards the year end trophies... Methinks this is not a really good idea... If ya have landings - ya gotta count them. Jim (still practicing landings every day!!!)
