[speedtouch] Multiple copies

2003-12-25 Thread Kieran Barnes

Merry Christmas guys,

I am after a bit of advice. I am lucky enough to have two ADSL connections
in my house.
My original one is currently served (fantastically) by the speedtouch
drivers which work perfectly.
I'd like to have the other setup on the same machine with an identical modem.

What I'd like to know is: Can I run multiple copies of the modem_run
program so I can use two modems/connections at the same time?

From what I can see the driver just searches for any unclaimed modems on
the USB port. So running it again shouldn't be a problem?

My simple, but crude plan at the moment is just to add a virtual IP to my
internal interface and statically route traffic via either modem.
Is this possible?

Your modem run under windows with wich version of the driver?
Is your ADSL line over ISDN?

Maybe I am right but it was just a quick look at the windows V3 driver.
I completly don't know what is done inside.
I just see a new model REV 4.00 named 'Alcatel ADSL adapter 330
(SACHU3)'
and a directory named sachu3 with a firmware inside.
So it's look clear to me.

The Windows driver is version 3, specifically
C:\Windows\System\Alcan5wn.sys
is version 300.7.0.2 and the Firmware is version 330 1.0.10 (as
reported
by the SpeedTouch diagnostic application). It's also reporting that the
Hardware version is 3572070, I'm not sure how that relates to REV_400 but
 heh.

It's ADSL over PPPoA, not ISDN.

I agree that technically the SACHU3 firmware in the $SPEEDTOUCHDIR/Bin/
directory should work but modem_run -f zzz...emi didn't upload it.

 Is it still so clear?
No, your line type is one of :
- a classical analogic line (pots: plain old telephon system) and use ADSL
ANSI/G.dtm annex A
- a numeric line (isdn: integrated services numeric line) and use ADSL
ANSI/G.dtm annex B ( and UR2 for Germany).
Over this line, depending of your ISP, you should use one or various
protocols (PPPoA/PPPoE, routed_IP, bridged_IP)

Under the windows diagnostic program, you will see your modem type under
ADSL pots/rnis (mine is french rnis=isdn)

Maybe there is an unsupported change in this new firmware in the manner the
firmware is encapsulated in the file.
In this V3.0 driver, it is visible that the firmware is no more inside of
alcaudsl.sys (the file is too small) but in KDxx2.eni../ZZxx2.eni.

Does your REV400 work under windows?

Did you try with speedmgmt instead of modem_run?

Hello, and, firstly, Merry Christmas!

Is there anybody running its MANTA Speedtouch USB on a 2.6 Linux
Kernel? I can't find a way to make it go, neither by using the
speedtch.ko module... I posted my log errors months ago but got no
reply :)

Greetings
Marco

Edouard Gomez look to be a teacher, so he is on holidays at this time. I am
afraid you have to wait some of the guru come back.
If you don't want to wait and have some C skill, you have to find some post
in archives where it is explaind how the firmware is encapsulated in the
firmware file.
It's may have somewhere in CVS a .c programm to explore those things if I
remember well.
It's may be
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/speedtouch/speedtouch/Attic
/extract.c?content-type=text%2Fplainrev=1.3
Later you have to identify what have changed and accomodate modem_run to
thoses changes.

Because it does not indicate 100%, this is a sign that one of the start or
end sequence to detect exact firmware position in the file has changed.
I know just one thing, I don't have the skill to do that yet.

[speedtouch] Re: No traffic

2003-12-25 Thread Leonard den Ottolander

Hallo Irene,

Since I was having downstream problems with the user space driver and
the alcaudsl.sys firmware, I installed the latest Debian speedtouch
packet and built in the kerneldriver (2.4.22).

I have no experience with the kernel driver yet, but since nobody else
jumps in I thought I might give you at least some answers.

I'm using the firmware file from
 http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/index.php?/download.en.html now.

I have been using the KQD6P2.eni with the user mode driver for quite a
while now (http://download.ethomson.com/download/KQD6_R204.zip).

Ping gives messages like unknown host, also when I use an IP
 address.

Really? Or just time outs in the latter case? By the way, can you ping
both ends of the point to point connection? Have you tried traceroute and
seen how far a trace gets?

I shut down the firewall, but no way. I put the modem_run options
-m -f -s in the script, that didn't work either. Could it be that I should
remove netfiltering modules from the kernel?

If all chains are set to ACCEPT you should be ok. No need to remove the
netfiltering modules.

 Iptables -L -n gives IP-addresses with only zero's.

Don't forget the -v option, which shows to which interface the rules
apply. The zero's are just IP catch alls, its the destination
(ACCEPT/DROP) that matters.

Btw, it doesn't seem to be possible to go back to my original
configuration, it just doesn't work anymore somehow. And I would still
have the crappy downstream: it used to be around 15 kbps instead of the 42 I
get sometimes with Wintendo, which I'm forcibly using now.

The user mode driver gives me a 40KB/s ftp download speed (same modem as
you, same line specs, but using the KQD6P2.eni firmware).

Although I don't feel I can pinpoint the problem you are having I hope
this is of some use. Maybe somebody with experience with the kernel mode
driver can jump in...

Bye,
Leonard.
