I think you'll find lots of people in these forums prefer Material skin
as a display and control interface. It does require a browser.

Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual

You're off to a good start. You may or may not be able to get this
applet to work. It is old and no longer supported. But my guess is that
you are most likely to get some useful advice if you post in the thread
devoted to the applet:

Most recent activity there was about a year ago.

As always, good luck!

I'm sure this experience has been horribly frustrating. I've been in
similar situations. Sometimes when I'm stuck on something that just
isn't working, it helps to shift my attention to something else for a
while. Unfortunately, that doesn't work well if I've turned my attention
to something that depends on the very problem I haven't been able to
solve yet. That's exactly what I've done many times, and it appears to
be what you've been doing, when you start working on plugins before
you've been able to get LMS to connect to mysqueezebox.com.

When you do find the time to work on this again, above all else, try to
be patient with yourself. Hurrying hardly ever helps. Work on one thing
at a time, getting help from the knowledgeable people here before you
try to move on to the next step.

And again, good luck to you!

While I can redo the whole installation again, I need to set time aside

Apologies if I'm overlooking something, but as far as I can tell, you
have not done what Ronnie suggested in post #44:

Code:

How about; make a clean install of LMS on either a clean SD card or another
computer.

If a SD card, install only LMS, nothing else.

When you log into this LMS for the first time, fill in your mysqueezebox.com
credentials on the first page, skip everything else. Do not add any Plugins

On the LMS GUI Home page, with a player selected, Go to Extras > Music Source
> and select mysqueezebox.com.

In other words, address the mysqueezebox.com issue without any plugins
added. Once that's resolved, started adding your plugins, one by one.
Restart LMS and check mysqueezebox after each one.

There was one bad sourceforge link in my plugin tab that has been

Yes, you have demonstrated that the machine in question can make
outgoing connections. Does that also disprove Michael's analysis that
your installation of LMS is not able to make outgoing connections? I
don't know enough to say.

But I do think it's likely that the source of your problems is somewhere
in your old settings and unsupported plugins. A clean start on a fresh
SD card is likely to get you a working installation of LMS. After that,
you may or may not be able to recreate all the customizations you are
accustomed to, but if not, you should be able to come up with a
configuration that meets your needs and makes it possible to enjoy your
music again. Isn't that the main thing you want?

Michael doesn't know everything, but he knows more, a LOT more, than
those of us who enjoy using LMS and Squeezebox gear without
participating in development. You ignore his advice at your peril. If he
has examined your log and concluded that LMS can't do outgoing
connections, there is at least a 99% chance that he is correct. Rather
than distracting yourself with side issues that may be irrelevant, your
best bet is to focus on what is preventing LMS from connecting with
msb.com and other other sources, when other software on the same machine
is making outgoing connections.

I do not know enough to help, but my best guess is that Ronnie's
suggestion of trying a clean start is the way to go. I know, I know, you
don't want to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything. I've
made the same mistake, many times, and I'll probably do it again. But
this thread is now eleven days old, and your first post says you had
already had the problem a week or more. I suspect that if you start from
scratch with a new SD card and a clean install of LMS, you will have a
working system within 24 hours. It might take a few more days after that
to get everything working the way you want, but nowhere near as long as
it's been since your problems started.

In any case, and whatever path you choose, good luck!

that was also my assumption when I saw the log entries.

but I can ping the outside world from the server. If I ssh to the
machine where LMS is, I can pint to mysqueezebox.com and it resolves and
pings back.

I can also stream radio channels from the web.
I also can get weather forecast from the weather plugins, and get stock
or sports results in superDateTime

I have tried restarting the LMS and the whole machine, I have also tried
rebooting the players, both the player and server, I tried to play with
config and restarted the player and the server and both.

I do not believe the problem is a generalized network issue, but may be
wrong.
If the issue is with mesqueezebox.com, I may be able to not use it. At
this point the only applet I cannot manage to launch is the Custom Clock
applet - but I believe my machines are stuck at V1 when the non-licensed
ones are only available starting 2.12

maybe if I resolve that I'll be in good shape.

You have a networking issue. LMS can't do outgoing connections. This is
not limited to MySB integration, but plugins fail to get data, too. Can
you stream online radio? What if you restarted LMS only? Are you using a

I do not think the issue is with the license manager plugin. if it was,
the players would be able to access the app gallery.

It seems the mysqueezebox account is not recognized somehow.

what I know at this point.
LMS machine can ping mysqueezebox.com - no DNS or networking issues
there.
my credentials work to log into mysqueezebox.com - no account issues
I see the mysqueezebox tab used to add credentials to LMS

I guess there's a detail I am missing.

how do I get my LMS to connect to mysqueezebox.com ??

I cannot access the app gallery, and License manager (in advanced) says
"Unable to detect mysqueezebox.com identity, please register one"

I can connect to mysqueezebox.com with the credentials I am trying to
enter in the mysqueezebox server-config tab, and get nowhere. Rebooted
several times.

O plus it seems the new raspbian is refused to remount samba shares
on my d-link NAS for 20 minutes after shutting down. Joy.

Many years ago, I made a note of my various preferred settings, where
they differ from defaults (and some that don’t). So I can easily
“restore” them on a clean LMS install. The podcast list was a bit of a

@Marsupial

If you are talking LMS configuration, my advice is, DON'T!

It's likely corrupted, and, frankly not worth taking that chance.

Just install the required Plugins and reconfigure as you use the LMS.

When you have it all sorted and working to your satisfaction, make a
back-up, infact, make a back-up now of your base image.

If you have a raspberry pi with the Raspberry PI Desktop OS you can use
the Image Copy facility to make a copy of the sd card.

If say, your sd card is 32 gb but you are only using 6 gb then the
Imager tool should copy it to a 8gb sd card

There is also a tool on github call PiShrink which works on RPI OS and
Linux (Mint.in my experience)

A sd card with a RPIOS Desktop image is a handy thing.

Raspbian on a fresh SD card, install the latest LMS.

but I was hoping to not have to redo the whole setup, as I fiddled quite
a bit on that, but a long time ago.
More specifically, I had correct screen visuals for the various players
that displayed correctly good information.

I am hoping to migrate the setup from the "old" server over the new one
to avoid the whole setup phase.

Although, now that I know how to clone the raspberry card, I will back
it up once it works.

Who knows ?

Something went wrong about 2/3 weeks ago, and you have no idea what may
have happened.

Who knows what state your existing LMS installed DBs, preference files,
etc. etc. are in.

If it were me, I think I’d start again from scratch with a newly
created, clean, OS image on a clean SDCard, a clean install of LMS, and
just set it up from scratch.

Someone else may have a better idea.

the "old" card runs an old buster raspbian lite onto which I had
installed LMS and apache. The apache serves files I used to display
stuff on the various players on the network.
no desktop, no nothing.
Connects to network via ethernet trough a hub, and is setup with fixed
IP.

Today I tried to install samba to help with pulling files from it, and
it seems the machine doesn't properly boot anymore, or fails to open
network (it is headless - would need to connect it elsewhere to see
what's up.)
The card and pi had been running non-stop for 2-3 years, so maybe they
are just up for renewal

I have currently changed the pi and the SD card and am running the
cloned card. I can SSH to it.
I tried running it, and also to install LMS 8.2 to replace 7.9, I keep
getting this

Code:

  [22-10-21 13:00:47.2423] Carp::Clan::__ANON__ (214) Warning:

I deleted it, no difference.

Thanks for the procedure, will try and report.

Which image is on the card ? Raspbian is really old I would not bother
with the following if you have Raspbian

You can, if you wish, try this on the cloned sd card, normal t apply

open a terminal

Code:

sudo apt remove logitechmediaserver -y

sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo apt autoclean -y && sudo reboot

This should remove LMS but leave the preferences insitu

When it comes back up

Code:

sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade -y
  sudo apt install -y lame
  wget -O logitechmediaserver_arm.deb $(wget -q -O -
"https://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=8.3.0=1=1=debarm;)
  sudo apt install -y ./logitechmediaserver_arm.deb
  sudo reboot

I'm "afk" to quote Sheldon, so feel free to ignore me

As far as I understand, win32 disk manager handled multiple partitions
on a single image.

The resulting SD card also has two partitions.

But doesn't boot.

At this point I am thinking of building a new LMS in parallel and
migrating the configuration.

Can I move all configuration to the new device?

If I am to start over, can I migrate the configuration from one instance

As a first test you could simply clone the existing SD card.

I am uncertain how to properly run fsck on a mounted filesystem.

You could shut down the system, mount the SD card to another system, and
run the check from there.

Maybe I should migrate the server anyway. Is there a way to move all the
configuration onto a new LMS installation, to not have to start
everything over?

I have 80% of my memory card empty on that pi, the media files are on a

Can you try a different memory card, or at the very least run fsck to
check whether the file system is faulty?

Did anything change on your system ? Software upgrades/reconfigure
something/whatever.
Any other events around this time ?
Disk corruption ? Time for an ‘fsck’ ?

Thanks @mherger
I already tried to delete that db and it seems the problem is
elsewhere.
I have 80% of my memory card empty on that pi, the media files are on a
NAS and not on the server itself.

here is a trail of operations I perform - after stop to ensure the
process doesn't run, I tail the log, check the file, delete it, check
memory, launch the server, and tail the log again; it fails. the file
then exist again and is 4k like we saw in my previous post.

Shut down LMS, then delete this:

Then restart. This will not touch your configuration.

This shows LMS using 99.3% of CPU time ... which is probably not good.
If it continues like that then it implies to me it that it is in a
loop.
Rebooting might cure it (assuming it used to work).

It creates a log file called server.log - however, you might have to dig
around to find it.
Here it is at /usr/local/slimserver/Logs/server.log

Stopping LMS and removing its database might resolve things for the next
restart.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS seems to not open ports anymore

2022-10-17 Thread Marsupial

I have been having issues for about a week or two, where I can no longer
connect to the server. At first, I tought there was something corrupt on
the system, and saw a thread that seemed promising...

I tried. I updated LMS to 8.2 and still had the issue.

I re-installed the 7.9.2 version

it now seems to *want* to start
