Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-16 Thread brewie

I can now officially confirm that the problem is solved. Just did
another nightly update and the mounted NAS directories are fortunately
still there and accessible :-)
Solution was described above.
Only small problem left is that I can't see my PcP under windows
anymore all other network devices I can see (NAS, VUPLUS, Router
etc)

That makes sense since the conf file I referred to is parsed by some
simple text handling in scripts.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-16 Thread brewie

OK; I think I found the issue:
I have recently changed my NAS password to a more complex password by
using special characters.
Looking in the boot record I found that it took the last few characters
of my password into the "options " field ;
xxx,uid=1001,gid=50,vers=3.0
To be able to use special characters in this field you have to install a
special extension: cifs-utils.tcz
After I installed this extension a reboot went flawless and had no disk
mount failure anymore.
I'll check if this worked with the next "nightly". But I think this was
the problem.
So far: thx for all the help.

The generally accepted recommendation for a device running LMS is to
have it wired with a static or reserved IP. It is technically possible
to run it on WiFi but perhaps not with a network mount such as this.
Are you able to connect by Ethernet with a static or reserved IP and
test?

/usr/local/etc/pcp/netmounts.conf
which should look something like ...

Code:

  NETENABLE=yes
  NETMOUNTPOINT=music
  NETMOUNTIP=192.168.1.2

  NETMOUNTFSTYPE=cifs
  NETMOUNTUSER=pcp

use copy/paste - do not retype it

10 pCP installs running. I run both CIFS and NFS connections. I
upgrade my pCP devices constantly through my development cycle, and
rebuild from scratch. I never have an issue, as long as the NAS is
powered up.

You you please post a screen shot of your mount page from the pCP

This doesn't make sense.
I have a number of pCP/LMS installs that connect to a NAS albeit a QNAP
- they all work perfectly and the mount is always there as long as the
NAS is up when the pCP boots.
Could it be that you have set your NAS to sleep if not required - I
don't know whether that is possible with Synology or not.

Did another update today... same issue again. NAS mount was lost.
I changed the Vers from 3.0 to 2.0 (just to do a change), remonted the
disk succesfully and everything was working fine again.
So by now I would say I can repeat this failure over and over again.
The remounting of the NAS is not automatically happening after an
update; at least not in my config.

It sounds like your pCP hasn't stored the network mount in its config

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-13 Thread brewie

I use the latest pcP version and there was no power outage (100% sure).
The Synology NAS is not rebooting either, so nothing can get out of sync
here.
This morning I updated again to the latest LMS version (8.3.0 -
1644703639) and it happened again that it lost the music directories on
my NAS.
In fact it starts scanning the NAS actively again and deletes the
entries that were there before.after the scanning all NAS entries
are empty.
So I did the usual thing: I went to the LMS "Setup Network Disk Mount"
and changed from vers=2.0 to vers=3.0 (just to have a difference) and
mounted the disk again.
Then I went to the server basic settings and made sure that the
directories of the NAS were back visible again and started a new scan
from there.
Now it is adding the music files again and everything is ok.
Something is not running correct here. don't know what is causing it
but with each upgrade I somehow loose the diskmount it seems.
thx

The lmsupdate script is completely external to the sections of pCP code
that changes the mounting. Assuming you are using a farily recent pCP.
There is really no way for that to happen, except to accidentally
change it while you had a mounting error. The likely cause was a
mounting error due to a power outage. The NAS will boot much slower
than your pCP device and you will end up with a mount error. And while
investigating you accidentally changed it.

With a synology nas, the network wait timeout of 30 is quite a bit too
small.   You likely need 50-80

What made a difference is setting vers to 2.0: this seems to keep

backup message anyway.
The point is that the LMS update itself seems to take the 1st 15
characters (uid=1001, gid=50) and ignores the ones after 15 (vers=1.0).
When the update is done you have to update the parameter and push set

Ok, now I know where to look and I also know what happened and why I
probably lost the vers parameter.
After everything was mounted perfectly and I could play music from my
NAS again, I just did an update on LMS, rebooted and the vers parameter
disappeared again. Only uad and gid are left.
So obviously a reboot is forgetting to take over the change of parameter
in the options of the disk mount ...at least it forgets to take over
the vers parameter.
Can anybody reproduce this failure? try to do an update on LMS and look
what happens to the vers parameter.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-09 Thread Paul Webster

Might well be that - although I don't have a "vers" in my CIFS mount and
it works fine.

You need to add the vers=? *vers=1.0* works for me, but try vers=2.0 or
3.0.

Mine below.

That is odd.

Can you open SSH session to the RPi (e.g. using PuTTY on Windows)?

after logging in - type
id
It should show
uid=1001(tc) gid=50(staff) groups=50(staff)

Yes, the mount error still exists:
uid 1001, gid 50 not exist.

OK - so stick with CIFS - it is usually the easiest to get working
properly.

If you reboot pCP, while still set as CIFS, do you still see a mount
error?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-09 Thread brewie

Under Setup Network Disk Mount I see:
Enabled: flagged
Mount point: /mnt/diskstation
IP adress: my ip adress for my NAS xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
Share name: music
Share type CIFS
Username: my NAS username
Password: my NAS password
options: uid=1001, gid=50
max wait is 30

When i set the network mount it says network mount was successful
What is strange is that you need to set the same under basic settings in
LMS again..why is this required. can't this be automatically
handed over?
Language: xx
Name of the medialibrary: diskstation
Medialibrary: /mnt/diskstation/  music is flagged

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-09 Thread Paul Webster

If the mount command is failing then it will not be able to access the
music files - which implies that the playlists etc are not on the NAS
(or at least not at that mount point).

The NAS could be blocking it (access rights) or you probably have
incorrect parameters in the mount command.

What do you see in the pCP configuration screen?
