Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Random Tracks Playlist - Are played tracks counted? - Feature request

2021-02-15 Thread bvrulez

Thanks, I will check the plugin out!

BTW: Are random selections working well? I have some weird behavior.

My genre "Discogs" shows 463 tracks. But if I do a random playlist from
this genre with the "random *artist*" or "random *album*" I get all
sorts of additional tracks that should not be in there.

I checked if I might have tagged wrong mp3-tags but this is not the case
(also those tracks do not come up under the genre as I said and they are
in totally different folders.).

It's always the same:

- Random titles -> correct tracks from just that genre
- Random artists (Interpreten in german) -> some of the correct tracks
plus mostly totally wrong tracks
- Random albums -> a lot of the correct tracks but some weird additional
ones

Also, every time I do this and delete the playlist, the order of the
ramdomly added tracks is exactly the same. I do this from the main
"random titles" menu in the GUI.

I just updated from 7.9 to 8.1 and deleted and re-scaned my library.

Sorry for the long post. I maybe should start a new thread on this.

You could set up a Group player (called something like Indie Mix) and
queue the mix to that ... then join your regular player to it.

Then when you Resume the group player you should find that you are where
you were last time.
When you want to listen to something else you simply pause the group
player and play something on the real player (you might have to
experiment with the expiry time on the group).

Okay, so based on this I now assume that when I power off the Squeezebox
and start it again this means the mix is not restarted but it is the
same mix running. This is good.

But I might listen to other channels in between, e.g. a web radio.

When I come back to the random mix by pressing the physical button it
then will be started again.

I thank you very much for replying. Have a nice week!

A simpler option would be to use a global counter: The random playlist
will arrange only the least played tracks in general. This would be a
good intermediate solution. There should be an option to set all tracks
to 0, for having a clean start.

As I said every track would only be played once, as long as you don't
restart a random mix. The problem is we can't have counters for every
possible mix configuration. Your use case is specific, in that you're
always listening to the same mix, but seem to be starting it over and
over again.

Thanks for the comprehensive responses!

I am indeed referring to multiple starts of "random" and it would be a
good thing if a counter in the background puts a value to a song in
terms of amounts played.

*But just in this special context,* not an overall counter. The context
should be defined by the _settings_of_the_random_menu._ In my case I
have just one option set for one certain genre. (I DJ as a hobby and I
want to make sure I listen to all of the tracks in my repertoire.)

A simpler option would be to use a global counter: The random playlist
will arrange only the least played tracks in general. This would be a
good intermediate solution. There should be an option to set all tracks
to 0, for having a clean start.

Another option could be to create a huge playlist. As I understand a
click/press will start a playlist of 20 songs. If a larger playlist of
all possible songs would be created it could be saved and then restored
upon the next start (of the same context). Maybe it would also be
possible to save a huge list but only load 20 songs out of it, save the
last song when "power off" is pressed and then load 20 songs from that
starting point at the next start.

Just some thoughts. Maybe some day I will be able to code that stuff,
too. With 40 years of age I still have about 30 left to learn.

Have a nice winter day!

My understanding is OP means a *Favourite* consisting of random playing
a genre (as pic below), not a playlist as such.

Ok, then the response will be different: whenever you start a random
mix, a list of track IDs is created, and while the mix is running you
shouldn't get any repeats (again - unless you do actually have dupes).

BUT that list doesn't survive if you restart the mix, or play something
different in between. Thus you can get repeats on repeated calls.

2021-02-14 Thread Michael Herger

I made a playlist for random tracks per title of a certain genre and
saved it as a playlist.

Will the titles that have been played with that list be saved/counted so
they will not re-occur before the whole genre "played through"?

I'm not sure I fully understand the question. But if you're playing a
playlist, then LMS would simply play all tracks in the list from top to
bottom. If you enable shuffle, then it will do the same after shuffling
the order. Therefore not track should be played twice, unless it's twice
on the list.

You can assign favourites to a preset button using the "Presets Editor"
plugin.
