I am running LMS V8.1.1 on an iMac 10.12.6 Most likely you're suffering issues with outdated SSL support. What IO::Socket::SSL version are you using (see Settings/Information)? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
I am running LMS V8.1.1 on an iMac 10.12.6 I put myself through hell getting Spotify back when they screwed us! But finally got it Spotty working. Recently Spotify stopped working; Spotty was nowhere to be found in the Settings of LMS in active or inactive plugins. (and no Spotify either) I have spent the last 6 hours in futile pursuit of the answer, including removing Spotty from the actual Spotify app thinking I could toggle it-it's GONE! (This happened pretty late in this tryst at perhaps the 4 hour mark) I think if I could install Spotty in LMS AND enable it in Spotify, I'd be back in business, but I am out of patience and possibilities. Could someone rescue this old digital dummie, pleas??!!! Paul, Gary - thanks for your follow-up notes. I checked the link (https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to...ird_partition/) re. adding a partition to the memory card and noted the following at the top of the page... Looks like I will live with the USB stick in the pi. maybe get a short USB extender cable with 90 degree connector, so that connecting the USB stick is a little neater. Warning - It is recommended that you use an additional USB storage device rather than adding a third partition to the SD card. - Adding a third partition on a SD card will prevent resizing the second partition in the future. - There is a chance that future upgrades may clobber the third partiti[/INDENT]on. On my future home tech-day catch-up Sunday I will review the piCorePlayer getting started link (https://docs.picoreplayer.org/getting-started/) & see what I can provide to make things a little easier for a newbie. In any case, moving to the Raspberry pi was a great move for my needs. Next step (not immediate will be to look at building a pi to create an additional end device / Squeezebook Touch replacement. Appreciate any recommendations on which of the several pi hats to consider, or whether to go to e.g. Dragonfly USB (I currently us a Dragonfly Red on my laptop), for the best quality output / future migrateability for playing eventual >92 kHz music sources to the analog outputs. (I tried and did not like the sound from the the Logitech Squeeze Toslink output.) Paul - separately - I noticed that you are developer of the CBC Radio plugin. As a resident of Toronto I have been disappointed that this plug-in has not worked for a long time - I get "404 Not Found". Searching for CBC on this forum doesn't come up with any hits... Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
To follow-on from my earlier message and the feedback suggestions received regarding Raspberry pi as a platform, with piCorePlayer LMS. My ReadyNAS died shortly after my earlier e-mails, and for a while I was running on LMS on my laptop, but that was not very satisfactory from a general family usability perspective. Many thanks for the suggestion to look at the Raspberry pi & piCorePlayer / LMS. I have recently made the transition to a Raspberry pi. A key note for other Raspberry pi newbies - my new pi 4 came with instructions on how to set everything up - starting with NOOBS (New Out Of Box System) loader, setting up Raspian, etc. and then trying to figure out how to get piCorePlayer & LMS to to install. After many hours of reading & re-reading the various documentation I realized that I need not have wasted my time on all the Rasbian stuff, and instead could have gone directly to loading piCorePlayer onto the memory card. It should really be explained more clearly to new pi users that the whole Raspbian thing is an unnecessary detour ... In any case, I have now got my music library loaded on a 500 GB USB flash drive inserted into the pi, and this is working well. The Raspberry runs sufficiently cool that the cooling fan never turns on, and the device is amazingly fast to scan & index my library, compared to the NetGear/ReadyNAS. As a dedicated standalone device - at probably 1/20th the size of my old 4-drive NetGear device - we gained a robust & reliable and high-performing system. I have two open items to close - appreciate further feedback: - I have a 1TB memory card and would like to partition this to load my music library on the memory card, so that I don't have an external USB stick poking out of the raspberry, vulnerable to being bumped, etc. - I still maintain my master library on my laptop. I tried to set up SAMBA on the pi / piCorePlayer, so that I can directly propagate/sync my library updates directly to the pi (I used Allway Sync with the NetGear/ReadyNAS), but I have not been able to get this configured properly. Expect I will burn up another Sunday to get these last two items cross off the list. Again, many thanks for the suggestion to look at the Raspberry pi & piCorePlayre / LMS. svetter's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65593 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112123 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Yeah if your old NAS is still reliable then keep music on it and get raspberry pi with piCorePlayer for LMS. Alternatively update /upgrade NAS to smth capable of running docker.. (so with Intel CPU) and run docker version of LMS on new NAS 3x Squeezebox Touch, 4x Squeezebox Radio, Squeezelite (RPi 3B with HiFiBerry DAC+Pro on OSMC), Material Skin Apk, Squeeze Commander, Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 with Material Skin (Docker in DS218+) Jaca's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58187 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112123 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
Really will appreciate some advice about the following: I am running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 - 1522157629 @ Fri Mar 30 12:30:30 CEST 2018. on an old but so far reliable ReadyNAS NV+ (RAIDiator 4.1.16 [1.00a043]). Serving 4 Logitech Touch devices (all are up-to-date with v7.8.0 r16754), plus SqueezeLite- X version 2.7.17 on my Dell XPS laptop, and Orange Squeeze v 2.5.2 (152574) with SqueezePlayer on my Samsung phone. I have been living away from my home for a work project for the last two years - recently returned. While I was away I was running LMS on a new Dell XPS laptop and one Touch device on a temporary system. I have reverted to my home network and NAS, and am trying to catch up my network infrastructure & configuration. In any case, I do not want to keep running LMS on my laptop to serve my home system. Also, since returning home I have found that the network does not seem to be as reliable as before, and I have been experiencing playback gaps or pauses. I received today a notice "A new version of Logitech Media Server is available (8.1.1 - 0).". Clicking on the link in the message gives me a "404 Not found" message. While I was trying to figure out the potential network issues that caused the LMS playback gaps/pauses, I thought I read a posting that LMS is not being supported on NetGear NV+ beyond version 9.x ... I do not have the hands-on technical expertise (or time to dig...) to try migrating a potentially failing upgrade. And, my situation is further exacerbated in that my relatively new Dell XPS laptop is running Windows 10 Pro, and I have not figured out how to get access to my network devices from the laptop, compared to Windows 7 on my previous laptop. e.g. to do something that should be very straightforward such as catching up my NAS library with music that I added on my laptop while I was away ... (It was a most frustrating experience to have Microsoft "help" with an automatic migration to my laptop ...) At this time, I believe my best way forward is to purchase and migrate to a new NAS - Windows Server based? Appreciate recommendations on how I should move forward. (Apologies if there was too much info above). So far everything seems to work. I think I'm finally succeeding in using it with my newly acquired AudioPro C5A (via the UPnP/DLNA bridge--thanks to Philipe), which is what I've been trying to use as a Boom replacement. And an unexpected bonus: pCP actually installed LMS 8.0.0, despite what the online documentation had led me to believe. The only problems that took trial and error to resolve: figuring out how to mount my NAS as a source of files for piCorePlayer ("vers=1.0" was a necessary option); and (my bad) realizing that I had to tell the LMS "Basic Settings" screen to look at the right folder on the mounted drive (doh). LMS on the pCP needed two tries to scan the full music folder, but everything shows up. Thanks greatly for your help. Just wait until I decide that for my next project I want to throw a DAC and touch screen into a new pCP/Raspberry Pi to end up with a Touch replacement. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
2. I've also started to consider the Raspberry Pi route, to the point that over the last few days I've been looking at what would be involved. For something like $200 or a little more, I can get: a Raspberry Pi 4 kit (without USB mouse or keyboard--I have extras) with enclosure, power supply, 4GB of RAM (double what my Netgear NAS has), 64GB SD card, and HDMI cable; a low-end 2TB portable USB 3 drive; and a USB 3 hub to make sure that the drive (and possible future drives) don't overwhelm the power supply. That's way too much. No need for the disk, nor hub. Just leave the files on the NAS. The NAS is designed to serve files. Set up LMS on the Pi, mount the NAS to it, and scan the library from the NAS directly. I've been doing this with a ReadyNAS Duo v2 for a while. You mentioned SSL and https as likely future issues with the old Netgear systems (like mine with its current OS). I believe that Netgear's OS6 supports https in at least some ways (although it has to be enabled). For example, See: https://kb.netgear.com/23100/How-do-I-configure-HTTPS-HTTP-with-SSL-encryption-settings-on-my-ReadyNAS-OS-6-storage-system Would ReadyNAS OS 6.x likely be adequate for LMS and its plugins over the next several years, permit me to hold off on a switch to something else, such as a Raspberry Pi? Or would a current switch to a Raspberry Pi seem more sensible even for someone who has used almost no command-line interfaces since switching from MS-DOS to Windows circa 1993? I usually recommend using piCorePlayer in situations like yours. Because it's super simple. You are correctly skeptical of my ability to follow instructions. In my attempt with LMS 8.0.0, I think I did things right. I tried again: Don't worry, I'm struggling myself. My ReadyNAS is back in the office - where I haven't been for... weeks. Thus I can't test what I suggest. If you have other suggestions, I'm willing to listen. I do appreciate the suggestions I've received to date. I think I should phase out support for those old ReadyNAS models, tbh. Lack of IO::Socket::SSL they'll be useless with music services or even radio stations who all start to stream over https - not to mention that those NAS devices all must have a certain age... Did you ever consider the Raspberry Pi route to run LMS? It would likely be faster, even if you leave your files on the NAS. In my attempt with LMS 8.0.0, I think I did things right. I tried again: 1. Told the NAS to remove LMS 8.0.0 and all its configuration files. It told me that it did. I rebooted the NAS. 2. Told the NAS to add LMS back and rebooted the NAS (without first adding editing the SLIMOPTIONS statement). After this reboot, a log file existed and looked much like the one that I described above, with only three different lines, with many instances of "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting." 3. Added "--d_startup" to the SLIMOPTIONS statement, in order to get a "real" log file, then rebooted the NAS yet again. 3. Looked at the resulting server.log file. It had the same three lines as last time, differing only in having far more instances of "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting." Trying again with 7.9.2, which I earlier couldn't get to work, either: 1. Told the NAS to remove LMS and all of its configuration files. Without rebooting, I then told it to add LMS 7.9.2. After that change, I rebooted the NAS. 2. Added "--d_startup" to the SLIMOPTIONS statement and rebooted the NAS. Before doing so, I peeked at the server.log file, which looked much like it did with 8.0.0. 3. After this reboot (with 7.9.2, and with the SLIMOPTIONS="--d_startup" added), the log file was again essentially the same. I noticed that after this reboot, the file with the SLIMOPTIONS="--d_startup" line still had that line. I thought that when LMS was actually loaded, this line was supposed to be reset with a null parameter value. I didn't always look with my other attempts at loading and unloading LMS and rebooting, but this was not the first time that I saw SLIMOPTIONS="--d_startup" after a reboot with an allegedly installed LMS. I infer that, despite the fact that my NAS tells me that LMS 8.0.0 (or 7.9.2) is installed, it actually is not. At least not completely enough for LMS actually to load. If you have other suggestions, I'm willing to listen. I do appreciate the suggestions I've received to date. bernreddy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70246 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112123 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Answers to your questions: "logitechmediaserver-8.0.0-1590233071-i386-readynas.bin" claims (in the Netgear management app and its accompanying (highly condensed) log file) to have been installed, but my Touch can't see it and the Web control gets the error message described. I tested this just now without deleting the "configuration and data" for LMS (an option in the Netgear's management software) as well as with deleting it. Results were the same. "logitechmediaserver-7.9.3-1590229251-i386-readynas.bin" is the same (but just now tested only without deleting "configuration and data". "logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-i386-readynas.bin" is the same (but just now tested only without deleting "configuration and data". "logitechmediaserver-7.9.1-i386-readynas.bin", what I had been running, still works when re-installed. When I reinstalled it after a test in which I had not deleted "configuration and data", it picked up my existing music library. When I reinstalled it after a test in which I had deleted "configuration and data", it wanted me to log back into mysqueezebox.com and tell it where to find my music, after which it started to rescan the library from scratch. Note that I did not reach this stage with my "clean" install of 8.0, because the Web Control never loaded. The ReadyNAS management software permits me to download "all log files", which yields a zip file containing separate files for 72 or so types of log information. Insofar as I can puzzle out the "slimserver.log" information from some of my experiments: 1. It shows when 7.9.1 "started", (without version number), initialized (with version number), and then (when I removed it) "stopped" (without version number). 2. After I installed (not a clean install) of 8.0.0, it tells me "squeezeboxserver_safe started" and then repeatedly tells me "Logitech Media Server died. Restarting." No version number, though. 3. When I unloaded 8.0, it tells me "squeezeboxserver_safe stopped." And then back to #1 when I reinstall 7.9.1. bernreddy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70246 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112123 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

So will there be anymore updates to 7.9.x? Or will the fixes and improvements only be added to 8.x from now on? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
Thanks for continuing to improve LMS. I am trying to download LMS 8.0 to my Synology DS-713+ which currently runs LMS 7.9.1 which was installed from the Synology package center. I cannot figure out which file to download. The Synology NAS requires packages with the .pkg file extensions? I tried to install any of the files shown at the URL but all give an error message "Invalid File Format". Can anybody help? Search for pinkdot's Synology packages in this forum. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Thanks for the link, but my AVG virus software blocked it, said the file was infected with URL:Blacklist? Is it a problem with AVG or something else? If in doubt go to virustotal.com to check the file in question. If the vast majority of the results is ok, then you can be pretty confident it's a false positive in AVG: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/bf9fedf17dc2bdd0377dd5c9cb8cd1f61db6a5cc9923a827f8857a33d12cffad/detection -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Update to LMS 8.0
LMS 8.0 can be found here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/ Btw, I am using the latest 7.9.3 version on a windows system, and don't have any of the issues that you describe. I am not sure if updating to the latest LMS 8.0 version will solve the problems that you have. Of course you can always try.
