Since I can't find any built-in utility, should I assume there is none?

I miss my inforss, and I can reinstall and rebuild my subscription list
from scratch, but if SM already has the functionality, why complicate my

Form manager in v.2?

2010-09-05 Thread Paul B. Gallagher
I know they eliminated the form manager in v.2; it's one of the reasons
I waited so long to upgrade.

What's the best add-on for this? I see LastPass is popular, with over
20K downloads, but I don't recall hearing the name before. I also see
Mathieu's Form History Control, which sounds familiar, but only 1,800
people have downloaded it -- despite a five-star rating.

BTW, the add-ons search engine could sure use some work. Besides good
hits, I also get all kinds of nonsense that has little or nothing to do
with my search terms. I searched for form manager and got a Catalan
dictionary???

Re: Inconsistent handling of Word attachments

2010-09-05 Thread Ray

Klaus wrote:

When you look at the email source (Control-U), do both attachments have
the same MIME type?
It often happens to me that I receive emails (e.g. from the web interface
of GMX) that carry .DOC, .JPG, .PDF or other attachments but just use
Content-Type: application/octet-stream for any attachment, regardless
of the actual file type. I haven't found a way to make SM 2.0.x (Linux)
offer multiple choices for binary files. At least for pictures (.JPG)
there is a little trick: you can select view source for the attachment
and SM displays the image in a new window.

I get Content-Type: multipart/mixed; whether SM gives me the option to
open the doc or only to save it.
The same applies to pdf files, which just like Word docs will sometimes
let me save only and sometimes offer me the choice to view without
saving first.
The odd thing is that SM always correctly identifies what sort of file
it is in the download invitation window, but even though files of that
type are listed in Helper Applications with a designated opening app, I
still get this inconsistency from one email to another - sometimes an
option to open (with specified app) and sometimes no choice but to save
it first.

I think this is refers to the complete e-mail. There are probably other

What's the best add-on for this?

This is a completely different approach to the need, and it replaced my
dependence on the form manager over about six months before I realized
it had happened... a keyboard macro program. For me, it's actually
faster than the form manager since most forms were almost never filled
in correctly and the keystokes are now almost automatic.

The one I use is freeware written by a fellow ms-mvp. Details on this

The really nice part is that everything you store becomes available in

No help there. A comparison of 2.0.6 vs. 2.0.5 doesn't tell me about
changes since v.1, and I see no link to a comparison of v.2 vs. v.1.

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.0.6/#issues

All I can see here is

Form manager has been replaced with a new web form remembering
functionality that works very much differently. (Bug 304309)

That's not a proposal in any of the senses of the term I understand.
It doesn't say where to find it, it doesn't say how to use it, and if it
recommends an add-on, it's a secret to me. I'm as lost as I was when I
began this thread.

When I go to a site that requires user input into a form, I enter the
data, and the next time I go to that site, I'm back where I started --
SM doesn't remember what I entered last time and I see no way to tell it
to. Unless of course it's hidden somewhere that I didn't think of.
Double-clicking the blank in the form doesn't work anymore; same for
right-clicking the blank.

Hello Daniel
I don't understand your answer

Bertrand, when you set up your new profile, *DO NOT* copy the old
address book over the top of the new address book. Instead, start
SeaMonkey's browser, then on the top menu, select Bookmarks and
then
Manage Bookmarks. Then, in the Bookmarks Manager, select File
then
Open Bookmarks file and then point to the location of your
Bookmarks
file.

I don't have boomarks file command. I have marque-page but no
fichier de marque-pages or any thinks analogous. The file for the
marque-pages in frensh that correspond to the bookmarks.html
file.

Or, in the Bookmarks Manager, select Tools then Import and again
locate your original bookmarks file.

I don't have.

I have cross=posted this to moz.s.seamonkey and set the follow up
there
as well, so if you reply, Bertrand, your reply will only appear in

Thanks

For the addresses-book, carnet d'adresses in frensh, the first of
them
is the personnales addresses-book (adresses personnelles) and the
corresponding file is abook.mab. the first new addresses-book file
created is abook-1.mab and so on... The first imported addresses-book
file is named impab-1.mab (or impab.mab) and so on...

Bertrand, are you talking about the file that stores the email
addresses
(abook.mab)

Yes it is and addressbook.html is unknown in my PC.
or are you talking about the file that stores the website

addresses (addressbook.html)??

I suppose that this file is named bookmarks.html : In this file are all
the website addresses.

I thought you were having problems with the web address file!

No ! it isn'nt. I don't know what it is.

Daniel
(and Bertrand your English is a whole lot better than my French!!)

perhaps...

When we aren't not Seamonkey to read them while the profil is deleted
whith the files, if you have make a savefile, we can create a new
addresses-book and we can copy/past by a other addresses-book file
made
by Seamonkey that must have the same name, of course. I do that many
times without crash.
My remark is during the copy, the addresses-book module lost
sometimes
to times, the name of many addresses-book created before but the
contents isn't lost.
Bertrand
Excuse me for my english.

Daniel could you explain what you are understand about my problem ? We
don't speek the same language.
Bertrand

All right, lets see...you had a problem with your e-mail profile, so you
made a new profile and, rather than importing the abook.mab from the old
profile into the new, you copied the old file over the top of the new
abook.mab file, but this didn't fix your problem.

Am I close, with this, Bertrand??

Daniel

Hello
that is true, I copy the old address book over the new address book that
I create (abook.mab over abook.mab, abook-1.mab over abook-1.mab and so
on...)
But the address book seamonkey'program lost during this process some
times to times the name of eatch addressbook that I create (not the name
of the file abook.mab or abook-1.mab...). That explain that I don't lost
the addresses.

yes, I must recreat them, that is normal. But I have the old files and I

Search for feed instead of RSS. And just as a note: You could have

HTH

I did find this definition, which doesn't tell me how to do anything useful:

feed -- A frequently updated source of references to web pages, usually
blog articles or news. Technically it is an XML document available
through a public well-known URL, comprising of several items inside,
each one containing some metadata (possibly including a summary) and an
URL to the full blog or news article. The XML document is regenerated at
fixed intervals, or whenever a new article is published to the website.
Web applications can subscribe to the URL serving the feed and present
the new articles as they are updated in the underlying XML document.
There are specific XML formats for feeds, most common of which are RSS
and Atom.

I already know what RSS feeds are. I don't need that. I need to know how
to DO it in SM 2.0.6. There isn't the slightest inkling in either help
topic that SM can handle RSS feeds. There are no links at all to any
how-to topics.

Now that you told me to search under feed, which I thought I had
already exhausted, I found some helpful procedural topics -- Thank you.
But the help file is just completely useless as far as linking from
keywords to actual help. This has happened over and over to me -- I
search on a term and get a definition, but no link to anything useful.

This is apparently a general problem with GigaNews, starting today.
GigaNews not only hosts news.mozilla.org; but it also provides newsgroup
services outsourced from ISPs, including the ISP I use. I am seeing
excessive delays both with news.mozilla.org and with general newsgroups
(i.e., Usenet and alt.*).

Nope, nothing. All the form data I used to have stored in v.1 has been

Not sure what you are talking about - there is a feed reader built
right into 2.x versions.

Care to tell me where it is, or should I just keep floundering around?

The help file isn't -- it defines the term and stops there.

I see nothing on any of the menus.

If you've hidden it, you've done a very good job.

I see that now.

One of the things I liked best about inforss was that the marquee ran
continually at the bottom of my screen, I didn't have to make a
conscious decision to go look at my feeds. The new system may take some
getting used to, or I may just ditch it and go back to inforss.
