I'm not suggesting that you try and make it work if it doesn't out of the

Fred most probably imported his 1.1.10 profile to 2.0.10. If he kept the

Some stuff will have to be migrated back by hand: mailboxes, bookmarks...

NO and yes, both profiles are intact ...but when downgrading from

is not used anymore, you recover your old 1.x profile containing

AAAAAARGGG Again-Seamonkey 2 Deleted/removed itself??

Ok, this is too much. Seamonkey 2 seems to have Deleted/removed itself??

In a previous post (12/6/10), I had just upgraded to Seamonkey version 2
and lost all but one of my profiles (S.Beaulieu was kind enough to post
info on how to recover my other profiles.

Last night, 12/14/10, I clicked on the Seamonkey desktop icon and
nothing happened: I got a message saying that seamonkey.exe is not a
valid application??? Thinking it was a 'congested computer problem',I
rebooted -now the Seamonkey Icon was blank- and got the same result when
I clicked on it.
I followed the desktop shortcut found the seamonkey.exe file was 0
bytes! (see: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/bjweiss/SMfolder.jpg )

What's going on. How could Seamonkey get uninstalled or corrupted? Did
it try and automatically upgrade itself?

Can I recover from this or do I need to try a new install? Thanks in
advance for any insight on this.

Hi Jane,

You're getting this message because I've noticed that you've been
posting a lot of off-topic messages lately. So you're aware, the
mozilla.support.* newsgroups are subject to the Mozilla Forum Etiquette
rules http://www.mozilla.org/about/forums/etiquette.html. Stay on
topic is one of those basic rules. As a matter of fact, off-topic posts
are eligible for removal from the news server. See
http://www.mozilla.org/community/cancellation.html. As per the policy,
consider this your official warning. Your posting address does not
appear to be valid, so this warning is being posted here.

If it would help you to see which posts I considered off-topic, please
just e-mail me back.

It's important to remember that the reason people subscribe to the
Mozilla Support newsgroups or mailing lists is for user support; and if
they have to read through many messages that are of no help in their use
of the product, they're not getting what they subscribed for. I would
appreciate it if you cut down on the amount off-topic messages that you
post, to help keep the newsgroups focused on user support. Thanks.

If you do want to post an off-topic message, there a few things you can do:
* You can reply to the poster via private email
* You can suggest taking the discussion to a place where the discussion
would not be off-topic.
* You can force replies to be sent to the mozilla.general, where
off-topic discussion is allowed. To do that, just set the Followup-To
header on your post. [Demonstration video:
http://ilias.ca/flashback/tb2-followup.html]

If you'd like to reply to this message, please email me with a valid
return address, thanks. Replies to this message posted in the newsgroup

nightmare.

Archives are only containers. That experience you have depends on the
contents: sources or binaries.

The cited webpage explicitly mentions Lenny as having the required
dependencies.

In the past, with trying to keep up to date with a Mozilla or Netscape
web browser suite, by unsing the horrible .tar.zip method of
instalation, I had to create a new directory in a particular path, and
put the furball into that, then decompress it, and it installed it in a
lower level directory, and, due to the way that it all operated, I was
having to go down seven levels of directories and beyond, to do the
horrible decompress process, and it just became too nasty.

And, in all of that, I then had to find where the executable file was
located, and work out how to get the software to run by creating bodgy
menu entries or the seven plus level paths for the command line
statement required to run the software.

It kind of leads to an understanding as to why some people prefer to
slit their wrists.

This is one of the advantages of using package management - it takes
care of dependencies, and, it replaces, as needed, software or software
components, as they need updating, and, it generally takes care of
maintaining menu entries, AND updating software, as updates become
available.

Using package management for installing and updating software, is much
preferable to the kafkaesque nightmare of using furballs for software.

It is one reason why software for creating packages, is available for
software developers, and it makes Microsoft Access 2 and/or Microsoft
Access97, far superior to the current Firefox and Seamonkey development
- Microsoft Access 2 and/or 97, had an SDK available, which allowed a
developer to create an installable, standalone database, that meant that
the software could be installed, by more or less clicking install, and
away it went, unlike this nightmarish system of using furballs, instead
of installable packages.

Unfortunately, it appears that Mozilla, in the Firefox and Seamonkey
projects, has not yet advanced to the level of Microsoft Access 2 and
97, or Opera, or, other software that can run on Linux, that uses
package management for software installation and maintenance.

As I have previously said - it is a question of whether software is
written for the benefit of users, or, for the benefit of the software
developers.

Interesting, are you running an AV application that may think it was a
virus and removed the .exe file or rendered it useless?

I have Symantec AV which does a small scan on reboot and maybe monitors
email.
(I'm not at my home computer right now so I'm not sure of the edition or
settings).
I also have Malwarebytes SUPERAntiSpyware (both are free versions,
that have to be initiated manually).

I have the Pro version of SAS and I removed the trial of MWB but I've
never had anything like this happen at any time.

Thanks for the info.
After checking my home laptop, I have Symantec AV Corporate Edition (ver
10). I checked the logs, etc. -- nothing in Quarantine, etc. (set to do
a Quick Scan on computer Startup.
SAS MWB: SAS last scan activity, November, 2010. MWB: Last activity,
March, 2010.

So I don't think any of these programs are the culprit.

Fortunately, I still have Seamonkey version 1.1.9 on two other
computers, so I still can extract some of the saved emails
profile/newsgroup info.

I'm hesitant to go ahead and do a new re-install of seamonkey 2 on this
(WindowsXT,SP3) laptop at this point in time (of which I have none! I'm
supposed to be doing Xmas online shopping but I'm having ATT-DSL
problems at the same time, which I've been putting off dealing with
-Just keep re-booting the Modem to get an new IP ... temproarily fixes
the problem. Also, even to post to this group I have to VPN RDP to my
work desktop (after rebooting the DSL modem one or more times...).
Sorry for the rant...

I've been using seamonkey because of the multiple profile feature (I
started with Netscape Communicator, years ago...)
