It only shows up if you go to Manage Bookmarks.

Read what I wrote. This is exactly what I'll address in bug 588807.
It'll probably be fixed in SM 2.9 then.

Thank you -- that would be a solid improvement!

I also like Tom Pamim's suggestion to allow users more flexibility.
For instance, I would like to set up an unsorted folder for loose
bookmarks that don't seem to fit anywhere else, but also set up a
new folder for what can be sorted, but hasn't yet been sorted. They
 are not the same thing!

Hang on, Bill, are you suggesting that you want the ability to be able
to put a new address in the Unsorted folder (until you do sort it)
 *or* in the New folder??

Well, I would name the folder new if given the choice (to
distinguish it from what I would call unsortable) -- but it would be
the same thing.

Seems to me you're already sorting, so why not just put the address
 where you finally want it!!

Right, usually I do exactly that -- when I know I want to save it and
it's obvious where it goes.

But often, someone sends me a URL I want to look at but can't right
now; or I stumble on a page that deserves another look when I've got
some free time.

Or I know I want to save it, but it belongs in two or three bookmark
folders, not just one; if I put it in just one, I have no way of
remembering to go back later and copy it to the other folders.

Under the new SM system, new bookmarks not sorted immediately end up
out of sight at the very bottom of the list, where I often forget
about them completely

A little more flexibility would allow us to better customize the
bookmarking process to suit our own ways of working. But this is just
a suggestion -- I love Seamonkey mainly because of how much
customization it already allows!

Is there a tutorial or guide on how to construct the appropriate CSS?
What is the difference between userChrome.css and userContent.css?

I have received help here before about specific changes to those two

How about we start with one or two of these pages that don't have the
margins? At least that way, we can see what type of CSS needs to be
added. Give links.

I'll let you know the next time I encounter such a page.

Please note: The pages are NOT mine; I cannot alter the CSS for the

Yes, I know that, else you would have no need for the userContent and
userChrome files.

However, I believe that I can insert CSS into either
userChrome.css on userContent.css in SeaMonkey's chrome directory to
override the CSS for the offending pages.

Yes you can. But it all depends on how those pages are constructed.
Also, anything you write will apply to all web pages you visit.

As WLS said, In that folder are example userChrome-example.css, and
userContent-example.css files. If you haven't already, make *copies* of
each of those two files in the same directory, and *drop* the -example
part of the filename. Examples are examples. You need to work with the
live files.

And study up on: !important

As ever so often there's not a single source. Try these:
* http://userstyles.org/help/coding
* http://www-archive.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html
* https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS_Reference
* https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS_Reference/Mozilla_Extensions
* search the web for userContent or userChrome, optionally in
combination with firefox, stylish or thunderbird

* search Google Groups (or newsgroups) for the above.

Of course it helps to have a good CSS tutorial at hand. Maybe try this:
http://www.w3schools.com/css/

What is the difference between userChrome.css and userContent.css?

As the names say, userChrome.css is for chrome (i.e. the SeaMonkey user
interface: menu bar, toolbars, windows, dialogs etc.) and
userContent.css is for content (web sites, feeds, emails, news posts).

I'd recommend using the Stylish add-on instead, which can be used for
both chrome and content CSS. With it it's easier to test things (changes
either apply instantly or for newly opened windows, as opposed to only
after an application restart) and you can put different styles into
specifically named style sets.

Only one shows up -- one account or one folder?

Opening the profile I see, among other files and folders, a Mail
folder.
That in turn opens to show three Mail folders, one for my current ISP
mail account, and (now) two for my former ISP mail account. Only one
account shows up in the Account pane, the one for the current ISP.

If I understand you correctly, you have only one ISP and one open
account, so it wouldn't make sense to create a new account for your
now-invalid old accounts with former ISPs.

But it's perfectly reasonable and feasible to drag and drop your old
mail messages and folders into the current account and file them as you
see fit. Then you can delete the empty mail folders you've left behind,
using the Del key.

If you have filters that direct incoming mail to the folders you're
moving, they will be automatically adjusted to point to the new
locations. If you have filters that direct incoming mail to folders
you're deleting, SM will prompt you to fix them. The only way I can see
incoming messages landing in the Verizon folders is if you have filters
sending them there, since the account is closed and you're no longer
retrieving mail from that ISP.

In theory, if we were sitting here three years ago planning the
transition, I'd tell you to simply modify the Verizon account with the
new data, instead of creating a new account. But if there was a period
of overlap when both accounts were open, there would've been no way to
avoid having two accounts. Otherwise you couldn't retrieve mail from
both.

Can I just copy the Verizon folder and paste it into (on?) the FairPoint
folder (current ISP) without overwriting the FP contents? Would all the
contents just go into the FP folder, or would it create a Verizon folder
within the FP folder? Or should I (how would I) I move the contents to
the FP folder without copying the Verizon folder? (There isn't a nice
listing of the V folder's contents.)

Depends if you're working within SM or in Windows Explorer.

The general principle with Windows Explorer is that if it finds matching
file or folder names, it'll prompt you to overwrite or cancel. If you
choose overwrite for matching /folder/ names, it will then overwrite any
matching files within the target folder, including subfolders. So
there's a potential to damage existing file folders if you overwrite.

I recommend doing this type of file maintenance within SeaMonkey
whenever possible because it's easier to manage individual messages. You
can select some or all of the contents of one folder and drag and drop
it/them into another folder. The usual shortcuts apply: CTRL-A selects
all; click... SHIFT-click selects a range of consecutive messages;
click... CTRL-click selects two messages regardless of their order in
the list; etc. In general, if you drag a folder onto another folder,
it'll create a subfolder, but if you drag it onto the parent of a
similarly named folder, you'll overwrite the target (I don't recall if
it prompts you).

Another advantage of working within SM is that you do have a nice
listing of the V folder's contents.

HTH

You point out that just pasting one folder into another will do a lot of
damage to the target folder. O.K., got that. Good cautionary note!

However, here's the problem (maybe my ignorance!). The only mail account
that shows in Mail/News is FP, so I can't figure out how to work within
SM. The only way to see the other account folders in the profile is
with Widows Explorer. In that context, I don't know of any practical way
to move individual messages into the FP folder. Opening any one of the V
files or folders does display the messages, but with every character of
every message showing (all of them, all at once)! There's no convenient
listing, even when opened with SM. (I get clean text with Word Viewer,
but no header information and no listing of the folder's contents).
So, no way to select an individual message for transfer to the FP Inbox.

Should I add the one entry for 2.6 to computer #2? or is there a better

You should download/install the 'Add-on Compatibility Reporter' on the
second computer. Sounds like it's on the first one, and that's what
gives you the extra buttons on each plug-in entry.

I did have it on #1 for a while, but it interfered with Lightning, and I
removed it. That problem may be gone, now that Lightning has been
updated to a new version; regardless, Reporter seems to have left some
useful things in the config file.

Computer #2 doesn't have Lightning, so even the potential for problems

Re: Multiple Mail Folders--Follow Up Comment

Result--confusing! My Windows folder structure was exactly as you
described (I knew this), and I proceeded as you suggested. The OldMail
folder is now populated and living within the Mail.FairPoint folder.

I open SM, and in the account pane in Mail/News I see . . . a 2011 line
under Archive, which came from the Verizon folder that I copied. But . .
.nothing else. No OldMail folder anywhere.

Maybe I should just forget it, delete the Verizon Mail folder and live
to fight another day! (And it sounded so good.)

Thank you for your help and suggestions. You are a good example of why

My fault, I omitted a step. I just tested it and this does work if you
add one more step.

As before, do this in Windows Explorer with SM closed.

In the OldMail.sbd folder that you created, you'll see a series of
paired files, one with no extension and one with the same name and an
.msf extension, for example Personal and Personal.msf. In some
cases, there will be a third file, a folder with an .sbd extension
(Personal.sbd). Exclude the cases with an .sbd folder and look for a
pair of files that you think is empty or nearly so. Important: be sure
there's no corresponding .sbd folder. Rename these two files to OldMail
and OldMail.msf, and drag them to the /parent/ of OldMail.sbd. You now
have a three-part system: the file OldMail, the file OldMail.msf,
and the folder \OldMail.sbd, all directly under your FP mail folder.

Relaunch SeaMonkey and you'll see the folder and its contents. Whatever
messages were in the folder you renamed will be in OldMail, and the rest
of the folder tree will be under it.
