Does anyone use Lightning?
Hello, I'd like to use the calendaring add-on Lightning. But every time I want to install it, going back several months, I can't because it is said to be incompatible. I would advise changing the order of the steps: 1) Disable automatic upgrades 2) Uninstall 2.33 3) Install 2.32 Since the pref is stored in the user profile, it will survive the uninstall/install process. You don't want to to go all that trouble and have SM instantly undo your work with an automatic upgrade before you change the setting. Ideally, of course, as Mason83 suggests, you would fix the crash issue and go on with 2.33. -- War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Furthermore they need to be adjusted for each new SeaMonkey release, which also means that an old version of such an add-on can break SeaMonkey if you disabled compatibility checking (which e.g. happens when you install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter add-on). For Lightning, please check the Stable Releases section on the Calendar Versions page. Alternatively check the Lightning add-on page (Development Channel at the bottom of the page). For Enigmail, please refer to the Enigmail Nightly Builds page. For HTML Validator you need to check whether the Firefox version that appears on SeaMonkey's about: page is listed on the 0.9x download page. Note that only Windows is supported at this time. SeaMonkey 2.29 dropped support for the legacy JavaScript Debugger interface (JSD1). Hence add-ons that relied on it, like the JavaScript Debugger (Venkman) that came bundled with SeaMonkey, or Firebug 1.x, have stopped working. While Venkman has been discontinued, Firebug can simply be upgraded to a more recent version (2.x) which supports the new JSD2 interface. If you are searching for a Venkman replacement (especially for debugging SeaMonkey itself or add-ons), have a look at the Tiny JavaScript Debugger add-on. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Calendar/Calendar_Versions#Stable_Releases So I should use Lightning version 3.8b2 (Doesn't the b stand for beta?) What we did is used the converter to add the compatibility checker extension which will ignore incompatible messages that I've found to show a bunch of false positives. We then added lightbird as well. http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/lightbird/ you can read our seamonkey article and if you want install our lxle seamonkey mod, up to you. http://lxle.net/articles/?post=lxle-switch-to-seamonkey-introduces-rotation-donation Mason83 wrote: Hello, I'd like to use the calendaring add-on Lightning. I had to stay with the current stable version 3.3.3 to keep lightbird working. The new one causes all kinda of goofy stuff going on. Re: Does anyone use Lightning?
I like working a bit backwards I suppose when it comes to compatibility reports/extensions. If something continues to work because the extension is installed and I don't have to either do without or go looking for a beta I'm happy, if something fails to work after an upgrade with the compatibility checker disabled I then go to try and find either an upgrade and or beta to resolve the issue. Matter of preference I guess or perhaps general use opposed to business use where compatibility is too risky to chance.
