I actually compared the two setups in about:config, and made sure
that they were alike. It did not help. Since Thunderbird works, I
can just use that, and also webmail (to get rid of the trash).


OK, next question: In the Server Settings, does it say "Server Type: POP 
Mail Server"? Or did you choose IMAP during the setup process?

Build Architecture x86

There are two options:
1) Either this is a 32 bit Windows 10
2) or: as he is using a 32 bit build, I think he is hitting the 32 bit
limit any 32 bit application can use...

Are you sure?!

Someone sold you a **32-bit** Win10 system with 8 GB of RAM?!

Or was it an upgrade from a previous OS?

The OS is able to use only ~3GB of RAM on a 32-bit system,
so 5 GB would be completely wasted...

(I'm wondering why MS even sells a 32-bit version of Win10.)

If it is bundled and not picked up somtimes you just need to delete the key

Can you give us a little more info about how you re trying to set up
IMAP? I have 5 separate accounts set up using IMAP on SeaMonkey. First
