Re: Is "SeaMonkey 2.40" the last version, or will there be further updates?

2016-11-19 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
You can't do a thing about it in Windows 10. Spying is build so deeply
into it it can not be removed. Using the privacy options will not fully
disable it. And it gets worse with every release.
You can hack it but with the Anniversary edition I gave up and just
wiped the vm. When my other older TH2 vm autoupdates one day I will wipe
it too.

You would need 10 Enterprise to turn it off.

What I meant with crashing the browser is the Windows telemetry which
came standard with Windows 10 and is now rolled out by Microsoft for 7
and 8.1 users. It can not be disabled but you can uninstall it.
Microsoft makes it harder every month to get rid if it. For Windows 7
they pushed it with a normal security update KB3197868. You need to
deinstall this one and install KB3197867 to get rid of it. If you have
a windows\systen32\diagtrack.dll your are infected by it. Slows down
the PC especially during logon and transmits sensitive data to MS.
Under my windows10 pro 64bits I have this
"windows\systen32\diagtrack.dl" So what to do ?

It should crash quite often and autocomplete doesn't work. If you run into
trouble
check if its a known problem.

The known problems for 2.49 are tracked in:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1313304

As of now 2.50a1 still suffers from the same problems.

If you use 2.40 the Data Manager is pretty much broken. Should work for
http sites but anything https is either shown incorrectly or not edited
right. I fixed it for the never released 2.45. If you use 2.46 please
document what is wrong and file a bug.

Yes but the Windows update catalog is different. If you want to actually
get a kb from it you need to use an MS browser. And KB3197867 for
Windows 7 or KB3197873 for 8.1 are only available there.

So Linux still has scroll buttons?

Linux is a kernel, not "an operating system". There are many Linux-based
distributions (distros), but the Linux kernel has nothing to do with
what anything looks like in them. Look and feel and available widgets
depend on a multitude of desktop environments which themselves have
various themes available.

SeaMonkey Modern has a unique look and feel that ignores the theme of
the environment other than the UI fonts. Loss of scroll buttons in SM's
Modern theme represents a significant change, very much unwanted here.

To see why, acquire arthritis and/or carpal tunnel and/or other
inhibition on movement with your mousing hand, then try to position
window content vertically with any sort of precision. Clicking scrollers
is the only way that works. Even that is worse than it used to be, when
it was possible to have the scrolling increment equal to one line
instead of 2.5 or 3.

I have had the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome. It was from having
my wrist bent while using a pointing device. After I realized what the
problem was, I made a point of keeping my wrist straight, and the
symptoms gradually disappeared.

Since Mac OS no longer has scroll buttons, I have learned to compensate
by selecting a line in a list or a text file and using the arrows to
move the selection up or down. When it gets to the top or bottom, the
whole thing scrolls by one line with one press of the arrow key.

Maybe this will help some:
If you want to access Gmail using multiple pop-readers, you will need to
use Gmail's "recent mode".
Instructions --> https://support.google.com/mail/answer/47948

The trade-off is that if the pop-reader uses "recent mode", it will not
be able to access mail more than 30 days old.
Once it is read on one computer it can not be read on another even if
it is saved on the GMail account and if if you mark it as unread--the
only way is ser it to "recent mode". You can with Yahoo or Hotmail but
not GMail.

has changed lately. Buttons are still there in all GTK2 builds I've tried.

Try with the 2.47 build from here: http://tinyurl.com/j2ju4s7

That's a link to Win32. I'm running Linux. I tried a newer akalla 2.46 but it
was a GTK3. Where I got the GTK2 20161005013219 from and how I found out about
it I have no recollection. 20161119153553 is 2.47, presumably GTK3, since I
can't find a gtk2 buildconfig flag, and is missing scroll buttons:

Re: Is "SeaMonkey 2.40" the last version, or will there be further updates?

2016-11-19 Thread Ed Mullen

On 11/19/2016 at 3:26 AM, Frank-Rainer Grahl's prodigious digits fired off:

Yes but the Windows update catalog is different. If you want to actually
get a kb from it you need to use an MS browser. And KB3197867 for
Windows 7 or KB3197873 for 8.1 are only available there.

You do NOT need to use IE or Edge to view Knowledge Base atricles.

Just Google the KB number and you can get to it.

Nope, you're still wrong.

Using Firefox:

1. Google the KB number
2. Click first link
3. Scroll down to How to obtain and install ...
4. Click first link to go to the update catalog
5. Click the download buttons

Does the Mozilla Crash Reporter come up? If not, it could be because
you're not using an official release. If it does,

1. Open SeaMonkey.
2. Go to Help-->Troubleshooting_Information. That should open a new tab
with info about your SeaMonkey setup.
3. Under "Crash Reports for the Last 3 Days" click on your latest crash
report. That should take you to a web page starting with
"https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/;
4. Open a reply to this post and paste the address of your latest crash
report.
We can then look at the data specific to your crash and have a better
idea of what is causing the problem.
