I agree with Ed. Friday night at the track, kinda like friday night
at
the fights. Now if Gillette will only sponsor.

I was in Wisconsin on Friday night ... when the Paris meet should have
been on ESPN. I had a TV Guide for Wisconsin and everything, so I know that
Paris was planned to have been shown at 8 PM, central time.

Once I tuned in, though it was Friday Night at the Fights for several
hours. The Guide said Times approximate, but I the fights went on for
several hours and the meet was not shown.

Why is this? Besides fights being much more popular (which is obvious), the
meet WAS in the Guide, slotted for 8 PM, and WAS shown in other markets (at
least you guys say it was).

What gives? Does ESPN decide on an individual-market basis who they will
pull the track meet from?

Last big meet I was at was Oly Trails in Atlanta so this may not be new but
I always get a kick out of watching the Euro meets and others and see what
new tech devices someone comes up with. At Paris I saw this little remote
control device come on the screen when they were showing the womens hammer
winning throw. The device I guess is used to carry the implement back to
cage. Obviously it is too much effort for someone to actually carry the
hammer back so we build a battlebot (i love that show) device to deliver it.

BTW, is anyone better at interviews than Lewis Johnson?

I
really like the guy who works next to Larry Rawson (sorry I cannot remember his
name).

He
adds an aweful lot of excitement to his race calls.

It's
kind of like the difference between our local radio football and baseball
announcers. The football announcer has no voice left when he is done, but
the baseball guy tries to use as little energy as possible (I guess so he can do
162 games).

Is
there any TF history about him, or is he just an ESPN guy who does lots of
different sports?

Srprised at the lack of comment on the TV coverage so far of the European
meets. Isn't it wonderful to see a whole hour (minus commercial time, of
clurse) without one "up close and personal."

What we are seeing is something like the nightly roundups I have seen on BBC
(after, of course, full coverage during the day) of World Championship meets.
These, of course, have no commercials and it is amazing how much action would
be spacked into that 60-minute period.

Lewis Johnson is good, but Steve Cram, on BBC radio, is one of the best I've heard.
Knows the sport very well. Probably went through so many interviews in his own day, he
knows which questions should (and more importantly) and should not be asked.

I've watched both Golden League meets and have been very satisfied. The only
thing I wish they would do is (a al Eurosport) is show PB's and seasonal
bests at the start of each race for the athletes.
