Re: make Firefox Thunderbird mouse accessible
Neville, thanks for your efforts. I really don't know why it should be that some people have such good luck with such modifications, and others, like me, never get anywhere. I still get nothing but a line with the word "file," and the first line of the message, and a ding below that. If anyone else can give me any ideas as to why this should be, please let me, as well as the rest of us know. All I can say is that if ISquared and all other screen reading developers can find no way to deal with this new method of handling the mouse pointer, we all better hope and even pray that this method doesn't become too popular among commercial or open source application developers, because if it does, there goes any possible use of a mouse pointer for speech access. a couple of questions for the list
Hi guys. On a Windows 10, 64 byt machine with Win-Eyes 9.3, I could be in any window, skype, Miranada or even in Firefox. The common thread in all this? If ever I backspace to regtype anyplace, all I get is a ding as if what I were typing was invisible. At least on my laptop as I'm typing this message, I can backspace and hear what needs retyping but, not so on the Windows 10 machine. Any help on how to resolve it, much appreciated. The other question is a warning of Thunderbird users. Seemingly updating to the latest version makes it inaccessible and the only thing which saved me was a system restore. It loads and reads like a webpage when first launched, complete with browse mode, links and everything short of the message list so unless anyone knows how to make the latest Thunderbird compatible with WE 9.3, it seems unusable. RE: anyone using vipre antibirus
Steve, I am using the latest version of MalWareBytes and I agree that the inability to read the screen has been addressed, but I still have a good deal of trouble with the new interface. I find, for example, that the only way to read certain things on the screen is by using ALT-CONTROL-W twice which I think forces Window-Eyes to use UIA. I had a bit of trouble determining which drives were going to be scanned, and after the scan completed, I was not able to determine how to select different threats to be addressed. Certain ones were already selected, and there was a button to select all, which is what I finally used, but I never did figure out how to select individual additional threats beyond what was already selected. I suspect I have missed something along the way. Do you or anyone else have some hints? In my experience over the years, I've had the best luck with MalWareBytes when removing malware. It has successfully removed malware that other software either ignored or did not remove reliably. A couple of other common software packages seemed to make my system unstable. Therefore, I'm willing to put up with some of what I've described above, but wonder if I am missing something that would be helpful. CapEnhance after 9.3 upgrade Was RE: Loss of speech when returning from sleep
Hi Rick, I have changed the subject line and decided to copy this reply to the talk list as well, in case anyone might wish to be made aware of developments in the world of CapEnhance. Thanks for your kind words to me and mine, and allow me to wish the very same good fortune to you and yours for the holidays and the upcoming New Year. Incidentally, I've tested both the present and the immediately prior versions of CapEnhance, and I've determined that the behaviour your experiencing, that is, the speaking single-character words, like "I", in the enhanced manner during read-to-end, has to be the result of the newest upgrade of Window-Eyes. To be honest, I had never tested my app with either Eloquence or DECtalk Access-32 (Window-Eyes) during read-to-end with Window-Eyes 9.2, and so I must accept from you that this is new behaviour caused by the upgrade. I must say that I am not seeing this behavior with SAPI voices. If you wish me to make any modification to the app in order to help you deal with this new state of affairs, please let me know. For example perhaps a hot key would be a good enhancement for the app after all, especially given that you might be overwhelmed listening to all those enhanced "I"'s, and you could just toggle off the enhanced speaking of apps before engaging read-to-end easier with a hot key, and then toggle it on again afterwards. Otherwise, we'll just wait and see what the future holds. Take care, Rod -Original Message- From: Rick Thomas [mailto:ofbgm...@mi.rr.com] Sent: December 24, 2015 6:14 AM To: 'Rod Hutton'Subject: RE: Loss of speech when returning from sleep First Rod, turkey is good. Now, it is not a problem but just unexpected. Finally, Amen with a bullet to your comment that there are already too many hot keys! Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you and your family. And, thanks for being a major support to anyone working with the WindowEyes platform. I just want to plug something in and have it work as expected and never, never find that anymore with almost anything in life - computers, headphones, software, keyboards, or many other products and the choices blue tooth, rf, bios, WindowEyes settings and Microsoft settings and operating system parameters and options. Everything has installation instructions, assembly instructions or so many options that I cant keep them all in mind anymore. So your comment that you don't have a toggle hot key is a major blessing - if I want it on or off I can do it in the WE Control panel and not worry about hitting some key combo that accedently turns it on and off without me intending to do that as a result of my old brain forgetting that particular key combo among the hundreds, thousands?, for everything else like WindowEyes, Windows10, Outlook, InternetExplorer or any other programs or apps that may, or not, be running at any given time, sigh! Rick USA -Original Message- From: Rod Hutton [mailto:rod_hut...@hotmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 23, 2015 11:44 AM To: 'Rick Thomas' Subject: RE: Loss of speech when returning from sleep Hi Rick, CapEnhance does not have a hot key option to toggle the enhanced speaking of caps since I wanted to avoid another hot key in the already overloaded hot key environment of Window-Eyes. Actually, what I did was to turn on and off the enhancement provided by the app. By turning on and off my app in the CapEnhance Configuration menu, this had the effect of resetting the normal cap pitch functionality already built into Window-Eyes. This functionality was not, as I say, working after upgrading to Window-Eyes 9.3 using Neospeech VW-Kate, even after, on Steve Clower's suggestion, I upgraded to the most current version of 9.3. AI Squared had made available this upgrade to help users of Neospeech voices. Anyway, the point is that turning the enhanced speaking of caps on and then off again made even Window-Eyes normal cap pitch functionality work properly, although I'm not sure why. Smile At any rate, whether I use the enhancement provided by my CapEnhance app, or turn it off in the CapEnhance Configuration menu, caps are speaking as they should using VW-Kate as my primary synth. I can duplicate your experience with Eloquence, that is, the word "I" is spoken in a higher pitch when the pitch enhancement provided by CapEnhance is enabled. This happens in read-to-end and even when navigating to the word -I" using normal cursor movement keys. I've noticed that this also happens in dialog boxes, where the accelerator letter for the default button is spoken with enhancement. Funny, though, since I haven't noticed this with VW-Kate, although I just tested DECTalk Access-32 (Window-Eyes), and it duplicates the Eloquence behaviour. I made a change to the app in the most recent update and this could be the cause of the problem. I could simply reverse the change in an update. Let me scarf down some turkey and I'll be back in touch.
Re: CapEnhance after 9.3 upgrade Was RE: Loss of speech when returning from sleep
Rod, For what it's worth, you could hook the Window-Eyes OnHotkey event and watch for the RTE command so you could suspend your cap processing until RTE ends. The Read to Me app shows a way to do this. Re: make Firefox Thunderbird mouse accessible
Neville, Sorry I didn't include that info in my previous message. I am using WE 9.3 with windows 8.1 64 bit, and from all indications, I am using the versions of both Firefox and Thunderbird adapted for the 64 bit operating systems as well. Like I said before, I think AI Squared really needs to sit down with someone who can either explain just what makes this particular take on the technology so wonderful, if not absolutely necessary, and maybe read them the riot act on these kinds of issues. This cannot stand! End of short rant . On 12/26/2015 7:27 PM, Neville wrote: Hi Larry, These modifications work in W7 32 bit but no idea if they make a difference in W8 or W10 or even 64 bit. What OS are you using? As we are being pested to move to W10, it would be a real shame if this technique did not make a difference under this OS. A case of one step forward and two steps backward if it does not. Neville. On 26/12/2015 9:34 PM, Larry Higgins wrote: Neville, thanks for your efforts. This issue simply has to be addressed and dealt with, not just accepted by screen reader developers. I was able to use WE to make the necessary changes in Thunderbird but needed sighted assistance for Firefox. For some reason WE kept loosing speech in the case of Firefox but maybe NVDA would work. A similar method has been around for a while but never had any success with it but these three steps really work. In short, I was amazed with the change in mouse accessibility the alterations made. Hopefully, someone can come up with a method to make Chrome mouse accessible as well. HTH Neville. This is the three steps needed to fix the mouse cursor problem. The third step is the new one. You do have to arrow down many times to find it. A lot do seem to sound the same, so be careful you get the correct one to change. block quote 1. Open the Configuration Editor. Re: a couple of questions for the list
Hi Jesse! I am still running windows 7 at this time, but when I upgraded my W.E. from 9.0 to 9.1 I have this problem for a short time. What I did was reloaded W.E. and this appeared to fix the problem for me. Just a suggestion. Good Luck! de . On 26-Dec-15 08:19, Jesse via Talk wrote: Hi guys.
