How do you purchase and download music without using the Amazon Music app? I
too remember how difficult it got to buy usic and then download it, so I
stopped using Amazon.

you no longer need to use the amazon music app to buy or download albums or
single songs, single songs are downloaded as mp3 files and albums are
downloaded as mp3 files all in a zip file, they still ask you to use or
install the amazon music app, but you can choose to use your default
downloader

Hello,

I see some questions here asking about using I-tunes.

I once bought music from Amazon, but when they implemented needing to
use their Music program, I stopped purchasing.

Here is my question:

Are there any On Line Music Stores that sell Single Songs? And the
important thing I am wanting is that these files are just MP3, and they
need No Special Player such as I-Tunes, or what ever Amazon is using
today.

I do realize these Players are used to keep Customers from buying a song
and then giving that song to a buddy.

I am not giving music to friends, but only want to keep my songs, so
they play on anything I own that plays MP3 files.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Windows 10; printing a document

2016-09-08 Thread Martha via Talk
Okay, I have made the leap from XP to 10. I get lost in the ribbon.
I have opened up File Explorer, have found a *.doc in Documents, and
want to print it.
With the item selected, I've tried using the context/applications key
and did not find a print option. The Send to pulldown did not include a
printer.

I tried using control + P key combination, but, did not get the print
dialogue box.

I tried to find the print option in the ribbon without success.

Would one of you kind souls send step by step instructions. I'm stuck.

Using WE 9.5.1.

icons on firefox toolbar

2016-09-08 Thread Dave Bahr via Talk
Hi all,

So, I'm wondering. Does anyone know of a good way to access the icons on the
firefox toolbar? The ones that programs love to put there because it's
convenient with the mouse, but since window-eyes can't read with the mouse
keys, how do you get there? If I use the control-shift-w hotkey to read the
active window, it read them, but doing a virtual view with the active window
set to UI, while it shows them, doesn't let me click on them. Can you no
longer do the left-click, double-click, etc.hotkeys in virtual view?
Otherwise, there's no way to use the customize page in the view menu.

Any ideas?

Updating iTunes account

2016-09-08 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk

Greetings.

Hoping for a suggestion regarding successfully updating iTunes accounts
please?

Specifically: Neither Window-Eyes or NVDA report the checked status of
the payment method button. It does seem that browse mode off might
allow the che ck or uncheck toggle to work, but inconsistently.

When I activate the "done" button, it comes back with a request to
correct the errors, but it does not read the erros which require correction.

We know that iTunes has some accessibility problems (which should not be
there) and the consensus is that it is Apple's mess to fix, but there
are Window-Eyes users who have successfully fixed the update account
nformation stuff, so suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Vaughan.

Re: new laptop keyboard issue

2016-09-08 Thread Stephen Clark via Talk
Dell is the same way, or perhaps even worse. I thought it would be easy
to set up a Dell Inspiron laptop for a family member. It had a full size
keyboard wich included a numpad and everything. Boy was I wrong!
Instead of the normal functions for function keys, they were all defined
for controlling volume, brightness level, turning wi-fi on/off, etc. The
delete key was located some where along the right hand side on the top
row followed by pg up, pg down, home and the end key straight across the
top in that order. There was no applications key that I could find either.

I ended up ditching a machine from HP, since I do have no eyes that were
qualified for the redefinition, and I simply could no longer stand the

strangeness, since there would be no need for excessive multi-function
of any key. Why HP has deicded to go down that line, even when their
long-time customers do not want the stuff, is another part of the story.

Sorry, I cannot be of more assistance on the matter. Do you happen to
have two eyes around, and do you want to meddle with the BIOS of your
machine, you likely can fix the issue. Otherwise, CapsLock to replace
the Insert-key in WE, is of course but one workaround. Still, you may
need the FN-key in combination with any of your F-keys, which can be

I am afraid that is the best advice at the moment. HP used to be stirdy

I think this is a generational thing for the sighted. People I have worked
with who have only used Windows / Macintosh systems and are sighted tend to
just use the eye candy on the screen to do most of the functions assigned to
function keys. It was amusing when I was in the Apple store this weekend and
they were giving an introductory class. "Now Everybody hold down the command
key and hit Q, can you tell me what happened?" There are even rumors out
that some new computers will have a mini display associated with the
function keys and will alter the display based on the application running.
Won't that be fun!

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Better late than never, was RE: Very Minor Suggestion Regarding the B and Shift B Command inBrowse Mode

2016-09-08 Thread via Talk
Hi, David and Rod.

I was going through old, old emails and ran across this one. Don't know how
I missed it when it was first posted. Quite funny.

There is a way to stop the confusion without baking it into Window-Eyes, by
the way. Set the window-Eyes verbosity to speak the window type before the
window data. The setting is in the verbosity> common> focused settings.
There is a combo box called speak window types wihch is set by default to
after window data. If you switch the setting to before window data,
Window-Eyes will announce the word button first. This way, in a hypothetical
situation where you press the b hot key and there is no button on the page,
Window-Eyes would say, "No button." But if you pressed the b hot key and
there was indeed a button with the label "no," Window-Eyes would say,
"Button, no."

Better late than never?
Lou N.

Hi David,

I think the Window-Eyes developers are trying to cut down on verbosity, to
save our ears, whenever possible.
Of course, one could always navigate away from and back to the alleged
button to test its presence.
I did get a chuckle from your post, though, and thanks. Smile

All the best,

Rod

Yesterday, I was navigating through a Web page and I pressed the letter
B as I thought that the page contained buttons. As it happens, the page
did not contain any buttons and Window-eyes understandably said "no
button." I thought, however, that this was, in fact, a button labeled
"no" as in a form where you have a "yes" button and a "no" button. It's
almost funny, really, and I found it amusing. I wonder if the message
should be changed to something like "no button available" or words to
that effect.

Re: new laptop keyboard issue

2016-09-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn via Talk
I think this is a generational thing for the sighted. People I have worked with
who have only used Windows / Macintosh systems and are sighted tend to just use
the eye candy on the screen to do most of the functions assigned to function
keys. It was amusing when I was in the Apple store this weekend and they were
giving an introductory class. "Now Everybody hold down the command key and hit
Q, can you tell me what happened?" There are even rumors out that some new
computers will have a mini display associated with the function keys and will
alter the display based on the application running. Won't that be fun!

Best wishes,

Jonathan

RE: How do I read PDFs in windows 10 please

2016-09-08 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Jo,

It's a bit of a learning curve, but you first need to install Adobe Acrobat
DC here:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/

After this, you would install the software, and I figure you would be given
the option of making it the default program for opening PDFs, but even if
not this can be done quite easily.
There are number of configurations you could make in order to make reading
PDFs easier, like changing to continuous rather than page mode, but
Control-Page Down and Control-PageUp will move you from page to page.
I won't say too much now, but this should get you going. Smile

Good luck,

Rod

Hi, how do I read PDF files that I receive as attachments in my emails? I'm
using windows 10 and the latest version of window eyes. I have attempted to
use acrobat or Adobe Acrobat DC and I don't know how to use the thing. Maybe
my brain is mush do I really have to use Microsoft edge?

I have an interesting challenge on my new HP laptop keyboard. I realized
before I bought it that it did not have an application key, but the
discovery since buying it is that the Insert Key does not work as Insert
unless I hit the FN key. If I just hit the button alone, it's print screen.
The insert is just to the right of the F12 key. I'm still looking for how I
might be able to change the setting to not require the FN key to make any of
the function keys and the insert work as I'd like, but wondering if anyone
has any good suggestions in the meantime for WE commands where I want to use
Insert without finger gymnastics to also hit the FN key.
