Re: Window-eyes wake up call!
Hello List. Reluctently, the jaws program was downloaded and installed. I thought how sad to see Window Eys possibly going away. One feature in the window eyes and Jaws programs is an add on for each program that inables anyone to move the mouse to a certain place on the screen and set it as a point for clicking a mouse or reading text. The main reasons for this is for using programs where the tab keys or aro keys can not be used to move around the screen. Another thing that Window Eyes and Jaws has is a way to use the num pad to move the mouse any amount of piccels in any direction, left, rite, up, or down. I would very much like to see the NVDA program have a full review curser for moving by piccel amounts determened in some kind of setting. I would also like to see NVDA have some kind of a add on that would allow a person to set points on the screen and move the mouse to that point and this could click the mouse single or double click left or rite and have other features added in there as well. This feature could be limitless. If NVDa could do this, they would blow all of these other screen readers out of the water and everyone could have a reduced price screen reader to do there work. Now I might add if NVDA has some of this already I am unaware of this. Isn't there ways to build scripts so NVDA can work with some of the more difficult programs? Personally, I wish I could see NVDA become the voice over for Windows with all the extra features added in I mentioned above. Kenneth Son. From what I heard from the Nv Access personnel at CSUN, they seem like a nice enough, knowledgeable, approachable group, I mean have lines of discussion even so much as been opened up? If not, why not? Has anybody here been able to have a look at the NVDA training material? From what I've heard, it's not very, quote unquote, basic, at all. Quite on the contrary! I hear it's rather comprehensive, and pretty well put together to boot! I think it'd be a real shame to see all that Gw Micro has worked for and accomplished over the years to end up being basically for nothing. Would you not agree that would be a sad thing? One thing that I think could work out to be a mutually beneficial solution could be for the Window-eyes developers to partner with the Nv Access group. I mean if Window-eyes is already free for anybody with Microsoft Office 2010 or later, then perhaps some of the revenue given by Microsoft per the terms of that agreement could be contributed to the Nv Access group in return for round table dialog discussions between the Window-eyes developers and the Nv Access group on how to best move accessibility forward. Re: Failure to hold VFO to account
Hello list. Speaking of holding VFO accountable, Where is any information of the update of Window Eyes for the new release of Windows 10 soon to be released? I have not seen this as of yet. I want to get a new computer in April but if I don't know for sure if Window Eyes works with it, I will have to hold on to this windows 8 computer until I hear of any release of a version that will work with this new update of Windows 10 Creator adition. If Window Eyes is truly dead, I wish VFO would come out with an upgrade plan to Jaws so I can get on with it. Kenneth Son. Hello to the list. It is mentioned in this post about a windows power shell. How would one go about changing this back to the command prompt? I do use programs that require the command prompt and I use bat files to execute these programs. the programs do drop to the command prompt and run basically what you would call running under dos in some of the older Windows systems. I run programs 2 at a time dsd plus and fmp. These programs are software defind radio programs that run from the command prompt. Kenneth Son. There are a few changes relating to the way you remove programs, but, even then, you can find the way you were used to before. If you use command prompt, it has been replaced by Windows Power Shell by default, but, you can get the old behavior back. And, you can always type "cmd" at the run dialog and get the command prompt. As far as I can tell, though, there don't seem to be any show stoppers, so far. One great thing they've done with this preview build and the one before is that they've enabled sound support when booting the install media. This means you can install a fresh copy of Windows 10 without sighted assistance, providing you can boot to your DVD or USB stick. I recently did a podcast on coolblindtech.com on this, and, if all goes well, plan to do an improved version when the actual "Creators" update comes out in April. -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+joseph.norton=gmail@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Don H via Talk Sent: Thursday, February 9, 2017 7:26 PM To: Window-Eyes Discussion ListSubject: latest Win 10 insider build Is anyone running WE with the latest Windows Insider program build? Window Eyes and Talking communities meeting
Hello to the list. In doing a bunch of research, I have found that the only accessable video and audio online meeting web meeting site is the Talking communities web meeting site. So if anyone wants to host some kind of meeting over the internet it looks like it's talking communities. I wonder if they are even still in business? I ask this because I went to the Talking Communities web site and half the links there are broken links. Tried calling them on the phone number listed in that page and it was busy for about 4 or 5 hours. Something seems a little out of line. If this Tjalking communities is out of business there goes any accessable web meeting site we can use with Window Eyes. As far as adding contacts I am abel to add the common things like the name and addresses for email and all the work and home and other phones and or addresse for mailing addresses but there are a bunch of hidden fields that you can fill in that I just can't get to. The birthday field I can add birthdays but it is a little tricky but there are fields for aniversury and other field names for spouses name and childrens names and there is one for a mailing address for a po box and just a number of other hidden fields you can put in the contacts that I just can't get to. Does any one have any ideas how to get window eyes to read these other fields? I can't seem to find a tab any where when editing a contact that lets me go to other sections or extra fields for filling in all the information. Out look 2016
Hello list. Details. Windows 8 with WE 9.1. I reinstalled the office 2016 programs and in outlook I can now read the list of messages but I still can't get to the list of mail folders. All I see when I tab is 2 buttons unread and all and a search box but no list of folders. What do I have to do to get the list of folders to show up on the screen. Tabbing and shift tabbing just does not get me to the list of folders. I am using an imap account if that makes any differents. Help. Re: Ranking Screen Readers In Windows10 Anniversary Update: The Results Will Surprise You!
Greetings list. Yes Caution would be the word I would use for this. I really don't believe Narrator is the brand new fantastic screen reader replacement for JFW or Window Eyes. I don't believe Narrator has a true review cursor such as JFW or Window Eyes does have and there are just some programs like it or not that you have to make use of Mouse cursors and review cursors to get to where you wish to be on the screen to activate parts of the program you just can not tab or arrow to. This big thing of Narrator having more access or giving us more access to things looks good on the surface but with no scripting or some kind of set files to make difficult programs with nonstandard controls workable, Narrator is basically useless except just for the basic uses of the computer. Ranking Screen Readers In Windows10 Anniversary Update: The Results Will Surprise You! James Oates On August 9, 2016 In this article, I will attempt to review and rank three of the most popular current screen readers that are available at this time. The three screen readers were tested on the most recent version of Windows 10 anniversary update. This is important because one of the screen readers is Microsoft’s most recently updated Narrator. Although ranking the screen readers might prove to be quite controversial, I think it can also open up a real discussion on which screen readers are most accessible, and even the question of accessibility can sometimes be up for debate. I do realize that accessibility is determined by personal needs and preferences, so I will attempt to define the criteria I used for accessibility in this review. What Is Accessibility? Quite simply, I determined that accessibility is the ability to access that which needs to be accessed. Also, I take points off accessibility for the screen readers that make it difficult to access material by being dysfunctional or by making it very difficult to figure out which keystrokes need to be used with the material. Some screen readers make you use ridiculous key combinations to activate website elements or functions within applications. So without further ado, here are the rankings! Number One: Microsoft Narrator! It took me about a day to get used to the screen reader, but once I did, I realized what a powerful tool Microsoft had created and that the company was finally serious about supporting a built-in screen reader for the blind. In fact, the only thing I could find wrong with the screen reader was that it did not work with my braille display. I am currently working with Microsoft and HIMS to see if this problem can be resolved. Besides that one issue, the screen reader was fully accessible on all
A question about Teemviewer remote software
Greetings. I have a question about the teem viewer software and remoting into other computers. Would I be able to install Window Eyes on the remote computer and once logged into the remote computer, bring up window eyes on that system and use the remote pc? Also, if I am asked to join a meeting using teem viewer, once logged in, would I be able to access controls on the teem viewer screen to send chats or set the audio and or just plain be able to exit the program? Re: Microsoft Go To Webinar
Hello Marc. Regarding the current subject, would it be possible to make mouse hotspots for the different parts of the screen one would need to access? I guess you would have to make several hotspots for not only the top level of the program but you would have to make hotspots for choices within different parts of the screen. I tried using some kind of web interface by clicking on some webinar links and I was not able to get around the web interface. If I could get the desktop version I wouldn't mind playing around with it to see what I can get it to do but I would have to find a friend or someone who is familiar with the Webinar program to point me in the right directions for setting up hotspots if hotspots are even possible to set up. I don't know why more main stream businesses seem to reject the talking communities client but you hardly ever hear of this easily accessable program being used. Talking communities seems to have a nice interface for all to use. Thank you for your help. Kenneth Son. These are your $350 to $500 machines, and when I see them, I wonder how quick they would be with so little memory. I am using 6 GB of memory on this machine, and it too is too often very slow when on web sites like Ebay and Youtube. WE 9.X has been a disappointment. If I would have paid the $250 for a new Computer monitor, and it was said to be a fast monitor, but on my system it was not, I would have returned the monitor to the store where it was purchased. Something I could not do after forking out $200 for 9.1, and then finding it to be a Big Disappointment. Then a few months later, forking out another $50 to upgrade to 9.2, only to find 9.2 was a minor improvement, but 9.2 still crashes, locks up, goes quiet far too often, especially if I am on the Web, or am typing too fast within a word processor such as MS Word 2010, or an Email program like Becky. And the longer I have the system ON, the funkier the system gets. I suspect something is messing up memory in some way. Perhaps a program using what ever memory it needs, and then when that program is closed, the system is not given back all of the memory first used by the first program, so there is less memory for the second program to operate. I am just guessing here. If this is a memory management issue, then I doubt if this is a WE problem, unless it is WE that is causing the problem with WE not giving back the memory it has used. Again, I know just enough to be dangerously guessing. Some here swear they have no problems what so ever. I do not know what is different about their systems, than mine, but apparently there are some differences that are important. have heard nothing from A I Squared. have called them probably four or five times. They don't have any answers. I get it, sometimes there just isn't an answer. While I would love to walk out and purchase a brand new system, say one with 16 GB of RAM, and one of those I7 Chips under its hood.It won't be this Christmas, or any time shortly after the new year. After this long of time, I was hoping that A I Squared might have made some correlations, as I know I am not the only person with a System WE 9.2 does not like. When I worked in Tech Support, we would keep track of hardware and Windows configurations if the software we were supporting was having some troubles on some systems out there in the real world. I recall one time, out CD discs would not be read by a number of customers systems. And yet, loads of other customers had no issues what so ever. We started looking at the manufacturer, and model of the CD drives on the systems that would not read our discs. As it turned out, this one model of CD drive would not read our discs. No one ever knew why, but when we had a customer call in, telling us our disc would not read, we could easily look to see the model and manufacture of the CD drive, and sure enough, if the customer had that particular drive, we had a solution to make that drive work. But until we started keeping track of hardware and software used on machines that refused to read our discs, we had no idea why, or how to give the customer a solution. I was hoping, and am still hoping for something like this from A I Squared. So far they have my $250 and all is too quiet. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
