Re: Amazon's Kendal Book Reader for the PC

2016-09-15 Thread Russ Kiehne via Talk

I was able to register Kindle for pc with accessibility on my own.
When you first run it, There is a edit box, in this edit box, inter your
Amazon email address and press inter. Now type in your Amazon password and
press inter. Now you should be in Kindle for pc with accessibility.

I see that several of you re using the PC app. Can you register your PC
without sighted assistance. If so, how? I have not received any response
from anyone who has actually used Window-Eyes to read the registration boxes
on a PC. Some of you may have doneit years ago, but has anyone actually done
it in the past year? After I got my PC registered with sighted help, I had
trouble selecting books for download. I was using Internet Explorer 11. I
was so frustrated that I asked Customer Service to deregister my PC. Will
Chrome or Firefox work better? Again, some of you are doing this. I know I
am using the Accessibility plug-in because it is, by far, the largest of the
two files, and I have downloaded it from the link for accesibility. I am
using Window 7 64-bit Pro with WE 9.5.1. I haven't updated WE yet, but will
do so shortly. I would really like to know if there is something I am
missing with Window-Eyes. If you want to write off list, that's okay.
Thanks.

 Hello,

A few years ago, Amazon put out a program that was to have made Books,
in the Kendal format, readable by using Amazon's Book reader for the PC.

I did download this Reader, but found it lacking and ended up not using
 it.

Now that two or three years have gone by, does anyone on this list have
any recent experience with this Reader by Amazon?

Does it work? Are there issues I should know about? And of course,
does it work with Window Eyes or NVDA?

 Thanks for any comments,

 Grumpy Dave

Hi Grumpy Dave,

I have a better suggestion. You still purchase your Kindle books.
Instead of using the Amazon Kindle app, you can convert your files to
another format of your own choosing by using a program called Codex. I am
placing the link here. The program allows one to convert .pdf, .epub, .azw
or whatever file type the Amazon books are in, and other formats from one to
another. For example, you can even convert a .docx to a .txt or .rtf. It
is pretty easy to use and it can be run in the Windows Explorer, at least on
Win7 machines, through the context menu.
You set your default file type for output and when you select convert, your
file is automatically converted to the file you requested. There is also an
option to choose another file type without changing your default. For
example, you found a magazine article you wanted to read quickly..save it as
a .txt and read it quickly. So, finally, here is the link:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5121410/Codex-2.0-setup.exe

Oh yes, I used it yesterday and was informed there is a newer version.
You can update it directly from the program.

Carol

Subject: Amazon's Kendal Book Reader for the PC

Grumpy Dave

You would be better off buying the $50.00 Fire tablet from Amazon to read
Kindle books.

That's a great idea, but you must register your PC and download the books
first. Last time I tried, I couldn't even do that.

Hi Grumpy Dave,

I have a better suggestion. You still purchase your Kindle books.
Instead of using the Amazon Kindle app, you can convert your files to
another format of your own choosing by using a program called Codex. I
am placing the link here. The program allows one to convert .pdf,
.epub, .azw or whatever file type the Amazon books are in, and other
formats from one to another. For example, you can even convert a .docx
to a .txt or .rtf. It is pretty easy to use and it can be run in the
Windows Explorer, at least on Win7 machines, through the context menu.
You set your default file type for output and when you select convert,
your file is automatically converted to the file you requested. There
is also an option to choose another file type without changing your
default. For example, you found a magazine article you wanted to read
quickly..save it as a .txt and read it quickly. So, finally, here is
the link:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5121410/Codex-2.0-setup.exe

Oh yes, I used it yesterday and was informed there is a newer version.
You can update it directly from the program.

Carol

Hi Carol,

Can I ask where do the Kindle books go once you have bought them? I read
them on my iphone as the kindle app for the pc is not accessible for me.

Is there a way to get to the books I have purchased in Amazon? I've never
tried to access my books on amazon.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Live long and prosper, John

2016-09-13 Thread Tom Fairhurst via Talk
They have updated the program, but last time I tried it, it still didn't
worik--either on the PC end or on the web site. I complained and got the
traditional answer from Amazon that they appreciate my feedback and sent it
to their development team--a dead letter box. I haven't tried it withthe the
very latest Window-Eyes. I had them delete my PC from my devices because I
couldn't do so. I will admit that I achieved success with the IPhone app.
So, I didn't pursue work with the PC frurther. I know this is not what you
wanted to hear.
