Window-Eyes still has a place - Vipre

2017-05-07 Thread Brenda via Talk

Hi List,

My AVG expired and my search for an accessible virus/internet security
resulted in me choosing vipre. With Window-Eyes, I can access and
change parameters such as email and firewall settings etc. With Jaws, I
can only access virus settings either from the user interface or the
context menu in the system tray.

I have the same situation working with my click-free back-up program.

Perhaps I don't know how to use the jaws mouse cursor efficiently, but
from comments on other lists, I think it just doesn't read everything.
Not sure about NVDA.

Point - window-eyes is still a very valuable screen reader - at least
for now.

Casey;,

If you are going to use Viper, make sure you have plenty of RAM as this
thing is a system hog. If you have less than 6 gb, I would not recommend
it. I tried it on a netbook running 2 or 4 gb of RAM and we got rid of it
due to crash issues

RE: anyone using vipre antibirus

2015-12-26 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Steve,

I am using the latest version of MalWareBytes and I agree that the inability
to read the screen has been addressed, but I still have a good deal of
trouble with the new interface. I find, for example, that the only way to
read certain things on the screen is by using ALT-CONTROL-W twice which I
think forces Window-Eyes to use UIA. I had a bit of trouble determining
which drives were going to be scanned, and after the scan completed, I was
not able to determine how to select different threats to be addressed.
Certain ones were already selected, and there was a button to select all,
which is what I finally used, but I never did figure out how to select
individual additional threats beyond what was already selected. I suspect I
have missed something along the way. Do you or anyone else have some hints?

In my experience over the years, I've had the best luck with MalWareBytes
when removing malware. It has successfully removed malware that other
software either ignored or did not remove reliably. A couple of other
common software packages seemed to make my system unstable. Therefore, I'm
willing to put up with some of what I've described above, but wonder if I am
missing something that would be helpful.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

I used Vipre for a while until I found out that it had some big problems.
After hearing that is was not reliable, I removed it and ran Malwarebytes
which found twenty some serious issues. Vipre had been telling me that
everything was fine.

If you're still running XP, I recommend Bit Defender. I have always found
Microsoft Security Essentials to be friendly and to work well with Vista and
Windows 7 and I now use Windows Defender with Windows 10. I have had no
virus problems, since I don't take chances and don't browse risky web sites.

Hello Bill,

Which version of Malwarebytes do you use?

I had found that the latest versions did not read successfully with
Window-Eyes and so am currently using an old version which is more
accessible.

The current version has some problems navigating the window -- older

RE: anyone using vipre antibirus

2015-12-23 Thread John Farley via Talk
Thanks Bill.

Do you use the free or pro version?

It is the pro version I have problems with.
I cannot insert both the id and the key in order to activate it.

I have got nowhere with the software suppliers, although they have tried to
help.

As they have no record of the issue I describe above, then I have assumed it
is to do with Window-Eyes preventing something.

I use the latest version of Malwarebytes. Once you learn its quirks, it is
pretty much as accessible as the old version.

RE: anyone using vipre antibirus

2015-12-22 Thread Karyn Campbell via Talk
Casey;,

If you are going to use Viper, make sure you have plenty of RAM as this
thing is a system hog. If you have less than 6 gb, I would not recommend
it. I tried it on a netbook running 2 or 4 gb of RAM and we got rid of it
due to crash issues

Hoep this helps.

RE: anyone using vipre antibirus

2015-12-22 Thread Bill Belew via Talk
I used Vipre for a while until I found out that it had some big problems.
After hearing that is was not reliable, I removed it and ran Malwarebytes
which found twenty some serious issues. Vipre had been telling me that
everything was fine.

If you're still running XP, I recommend Bit Defender. I have always found
Microsoft Security Essentials to be friendly and to work well with Vista and
Windows 7 and I now use Windows Defender with Windows 10. I have had no
virus problems, since I don't take chances and don't browse risky web sites.

Advice about Vipre

2015-05-07 Thread Karyn Campbell via Talk
Hello all,

Just a short note to advise that if you have a machine with 2 gb of RAM,
don't install Vipre Antivirus on it as it will slow your machine down and
cause temporary loss of speech. This is true on my Acer netbook and I think
my husband is eventually going to remove Vipre in favor of Windows Defender.

If you want to run Vipre, I would recommend at least 4 and preferably 6 gb
of RAM. Hopefully this won't cause slowdowns but that's the biggest problem
I've seen with Vipre.

See my system specs below.
