While it is NOT possible overall to convert ways to polygons later (as you would have to do that tag-based, and have to make sure to duplicate it if there are line-tags and area-tags on the same way and so on), it might be possible to auto-convert multipolygons to area; but to do that multipolygons have to be clearly defined and possible to handle. The discussion of this thread tackles the problem left for any such conversion in future: What is the area described by any given multipolygon with the given tags on inner/outer/relation? If we could come to a clear consensus about that, and if we could slowly enforce fixing any problems according to that in the data, then a conversion to a new area data type could be done with less errors and problems than it could be done now. Re: [OSM-talk] Who interprets semicolon in tag values?
Bank and ATM are more or less synonymous these days, I cannot think of a bank without an ATM. The interesting ATM tags are the ones that are not at a bank. Sometimes multitagging may mean that the mapper couldn't decide, but in other cases they really are both and different renderers may choose which tag is the most important to its user. Going back to the pub/hotel, a walking/cycling map may want to render a pub, whereas a tourism map may want to render a hotel. Re: [OSM-talk] Who interprets semicolon in tag values?
(Sorry Tobias, I meant to send this to the list and pushed the wrong button!) There might be a way forward if we separate the concepts of what something IS (which can be made objective) from what it is CALLED (which is subjective). In the case of a cafe/restaurant, the type of food they sell, whether they have seats etc is objective. Each renderer/data consumer can make their own judgement as to whether it qualifies as a cafe or a restaurant or whatever they want to call it. Having some kind of indication of what to call it to help lazy renderers might be valid as a compromise, but surely it would be safer to concentrate on objective tagging as far as possible. W.r.t. the semicolon - even though the discussion about where to apply it is still in full swing, I am sure we can accept that, somewhere, there will be cases where OSM needs a multi-valued tag. There are even tags with essentially a 2-D matrix of values (some of which are missing), e.g. (from the wiki page on lanes): turn:lanes=slight_left|slight_left;slight_right|slight_right Can we have at least some technical standards to formalise the delimiters (semicolon, pipe) and standardise how we handle the cases where the delimiters occur within the data? Escape with backslashes, surround in quotes, ...? That would make it easy for data consumers (including editors) to deal with the values, and separate that from the higher-level discussion about which tags might use multiple values. [Talk-de] Berliner Soldner-Koordinaten (EPSG:3068) in JOSM?

-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/R-Re-Velo-OK- tp5778638p5778778.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/R-Re-Velo-OK-tp5778825p5778826.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Proposte-di-tagging-che-cadono-nel-dimenticatoio-tp5778828.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
