[talk-ph] I need a little help with some shape files for the OSM PH Map
Hi All, I am struggling a little bit with the production of some shape files for the OSM PH Map, (I am well advanced) and on the home stretch with the styling for the most of it. I am finalizing the land and water polys and I am afraid my QGis skills are not current enough, would someone be able to help me or know someone who could What I need to do is get the OSM Coastline shape files in WGS84 from this link http://data.openstreetmapdata.com/land-polygons-split-4326.zip Put a bounding box around the phlippines, a long way out way out so the sea looks good and chop out the bounding box and make a new shape file If possible, I would like to have the ocean as polygons and land as polygons in the same shape file, with fields for eacj poly stating ocean or land for each so I can style them separately, so it would mean closing the ocean polygons. Any help would be very much appreciated, I know I could figure it out, but I am is Styling Mode and it is probably a simple job for some one who is very current on Qgis or some other package. [talk-ph] Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan Activation Wrap-up
Dear everyone, It's been almost half a year since we activated for the Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan. Since then, I'm sure you are aware of the tremendous response we received both from remote mappers and responders on the ground. Over 4 million map changes from ~1,500 contributors. We supported local and international humanitarian groups. Locally, I can say that OSM became the de-facto resource for updated geographic data. Various government agencies (including the national mapping agency) are now taking a second look at the wealth of data we created. Along the way, we were able to refine our coordination protocols which I hope became useful in the successive response we are currently supporting worldwide. Let me thank everyone who supported this response, from the remote mappers, humanitarian agencies who used our data, image providers, organizers of numerous mapathons, the people who shared the appeal to social and mainstream media and, the core HOT volunteers (especially Andrew, Pierre, JGC and many others) who provided both technical guidance and moral support during the height of the activation. If you view the history tab in osm.org right now, you will notice that local volunteers (who were victims themselves) are working on updating the map. This will be a big task for us in the OSM-PH community, but slowly, we are taking on the challenge to keep the map up to date. Remote mapping has dwindled the past few months and I would like to formally declare (through this email, since I don't know the protocol) that we are wrapping-up this activation. Thank you again for all your help. There will be a little bit of clean-up such as removing non-essential data (i.e. tasking manager relations used in creating tasks). If anyone has a need for this kind of data to remain in the DB, let us know. Thanks again, please update the wiki [0] if there are things we missed during the activation. Also, if there are reports/assessment on the way we responded please add them to the wiki as well. If a loophole for this case is inserted, expect to see a sudden increase in realtime (and realtime) generation of data. ;-) If we change realtime to ephemeral, mapping data is ephemeral in geological time. If we stick with Dynamic, well, SQL queries and views are dynamic aren't they? If I want to e.g. combine parking data with littering data for a study or translate it into audio so I can consult it safely while driving, access to the data is useful. This may not amount to a moral imperative, but the debate is currently framed in terms of utility... Deciding which data is and isn't useful (to users, not OSM) has two problems: 1. It requires an Oracle. We cannot know which data is and isn't useful. For example the locations of taxis in London may not seem all that useful after the fact, but: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Merchandiseoldid=1838 2. People will always push to avoid the license, and any exception will be abused. -- Christoph Hormann http://www.imagico.de/ ___ Talk-de mailing list Talk-de@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-de

Re: [Talk-it] Segnalazione sulla questione town vs city
-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Segnalazione-sulla-questione-town-vs-city-tp5805198p5805319.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Segnalazione-sulla-questione-town-vs-city-tp5805198p5805328.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Re: [Talk-it] Segnalazione sulla questione town vs city
-- View this message in context: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/Segnalazione-sulla-questione-town-vs-city-tp5805198p5805382.html Sent from the Italy General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
