Re: [OSM-talk-be] How to tag highway only emergency
The problem is that emergency is used for both access rules (a permission) and for features, see http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/emergency#values This means that you can never restrict/allow access to a feature in the emergency-tag group (fire stations, fire hydrants, etc.) for emergency-vehicles, in case you ever need this. You can't have emergency=some feature fire_station, water_tank, etc. vehicle=no emergency=yes on 1 object. don't know if someone want to do something like this, or whether it is useful at all. Still I think the two uses should use different keys. (e.g. use emergency_vehicle for permissions). regards m On Tue, Jun 23, 2015 at 4:13 PM, André Pirard a.pir...@ulg.ac.be wrote: On 2015-06-23 11:54, Marc Gemis wrote : On Tue, Jun 23, 2015 at 11:11 AM, Ruben Maes ru...@janmaes.com wrote: It is currently tagged vehicle=no + emergency=yes. Suppose there is a water tank with only permission for emergency, you are stuck. while emergency=water_tank access= emergency works. That might be a reason to stop using emergency=yes for access and leave the emergency tag for features. IMHO, we should not combine a tag used for access rights and for features. p.s. the example above might not be the best. emergency=* is a permission. Stating a permission without a restriction is like doing nothing. GPS (routing) software will forbid nothing. As Rubin writes, a *=no is needed first to disallow something. vehicle=no emergency=yes Will disallow vehicles except emergency ones. Suppose there is a water tank with only permission for emergency, you are stuck. ... emergency=water_tank access= emergency What do you mean exactly? emergency=* and access=* can only used with yes or no. Else, GPS (routing) software will not understand. It means that the emergency category of vehicles is allowed, not that anything is allowed in case of emergency. GPS software uses strict logic to apply strict wiki rules. André. ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be

Hi! I'll be sticking around for a while in the evening also for anyone who wants to go for drinks or a bite to eat afterwards. There will be no food provided however you are welcome to bring your own or there are plenty of cafe's and shops within a short walk in Swords itself. As with all other events, its open to anyone, so if you are a long time editor / newbie / hacker / data user or just plain curious, you are more than welcome. [Talk-us] Proper tagging for crosswalks
I am looking into tagging some crosswalks, and I've just been putting a node at the intersection. Some crosswalks are really long though, and I think that information is important to the person crossing the road. Is there an acceptable way that we can tag a way as a crosswalk without interfering with its other tags (ex: highway=crossing on a way could interfere with a tag like highway=path). Re: [Talk-us] Proper tagging for crosswalks
Paul, Bryan, Thanks for your help with this! My issue was with bicycle trails that cross roads, as they usually put a crosswalk in for these cases, but the route itself can support other non-motorized vehicles. I think this gives me some good options that would be acceptable. 1) I could use highway=footway, footway=crossing, bicycle=yes -- which is a little misleading, but could make sense 2) I could also use highway=path, crossing=yes, bicycle=yes -- this seems better to me, but I don't know if it's acceptable to use crossing without connecting it to a value -- Jim On Tue, Jun 23, 2015 at 2:16 PM, Bryan Housel br...@7thposition.com wrote: It’s ok to map them as either a single intersection node or a way. If mapping only the intersection node, `highway=crossing` on that node is enough. If you want to add detail, `crossing=zebra` for a typical striped crosswalk, or `crossing=*` for whatever other kind of crosswalk people can dream up (there are plenty, see wiki). If mapping the crosswalk as a way, I map the node as above, and also map the way that crosses the street as `highway=footway + footway=crossing`. Again you can add `crossing=zebra` or `crossing=*` for more detail. These don’t conflict with anything, as the ends of the crosswalk typically join up with a `highway=footway + footway=sidewalk`. iD currently only has a zebra crossing preset, and I think I’m going to add an unmarked crossing preset also, following discussion on HOT list.
That might be a reason to stop using emergency=yes for access and leave the emergency tag for features. Re: [Talk-ht] Le bonjour à OSM Haiti
___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
Re: [Talk-ca] Data import
Thanks Jim, I have read a bit about JOSM and the plugins. I do agree that imports should be used sparingly. That said there is a lot of open data being produced by various groups that would help the map Iain On Jun 23, 2015, at 8:49 AM, Jim McAndrew j...@loc8.us wrote: I'm not sure about a tutorial, but there is a nice wiki page on it here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Shapefile I use the Open Data plugin for JOSM (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM/Plugins/OpenData) when I import shapefiles. Re: [Talk-ca] Data import
Good point - there is lots of good, free data being compiled out there that could make excellent additions to the map. But importing is a very complex business - especially in any area where other survey and contributor data already exists. Extreme caution should be taken to ensure that imported data does not replace or destroy their hard work. Survey the current data in the area slated for having new data imported and ensure that there are no conflicts (likely that there might be some conflict with CANVEC in any area, but that should be fine). I suggest contacting one of the OSM contributors that have imported large amounts of data before to get the 411 on possible problems and such.
