[Talk-ee] SOTM Baltic

2013-04-11 Thread Vladimir Elistratov
Hi!

A few additions to the mail of Ilia Zverev aka Zverik

In 2011 quite a few participants of the russian OSM forum took part in the
SOTM-EU conference in Vienna. It was an excellent opportunity for us to
meet both OSM celebrities and ordinary OSM members.

Last year SOTM was in Japan, this yeart it will be in England with
complicated visa procedure for us. OSM community both in Russia and Estonia
seems to be a closed and isolated circle with a very few new members each
year. So we suggest to break the isolation through an internatinal OSM
meet-up (or mini-conference) in Estonia.

Let's call it for now SOTM Baltic. Zverik mentioned that we had held a one
day local mini-conference in Moscow a year ago. Around 20 people attended
that event. It didn't require many organisational efforts. The main
requirement was to find a room for the event. I suppose the SOTM Baltic
would be an event of the same scale.

I expect that OSM members from Tartu, Tallinn, Sankt Petersburg, Moscow,
Riga and Helsinki might come to the SOTM Baltic.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Näiteks Tartu Ringtee tänaval tundub olevat loogiline süsteem.
 http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/32405539, primaarne name
on tänavanimi (lähiaadress) highway: trunk int_ref: E 263 name:
 Ringtee ref: 2

See tundub tõesti loogiline.

Ja see on osa mitmest relatsioonist, näiteks Tallinn — Tartu —
Võru — Luhamaa (1751132) maantee ja European route E 263
(61501). Mõnes mõttes on tee enda juures int_ref ja ref
dubleerivad ja liigsed, ma ise võibolla neid ei panekski kui
relatsioon on olemas. Aga kui on, siis miks ka mitte.

Kas Tallinn — Tartu — Võru — Luhamaa on ametlik maantee nimi? Minu
meelest relatsiooni name peaks ametlik nimi, kui on olemas. Kui see
pole ametlik nimi, võibolla relatsiooni description sobib paremini?

Mul on teine küsimus (saksa foorumist):
http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=20812
Kas ametlik tänavanimed sisaldavad täielikud eesnimed või lühendid?
Näiteks siin: http://osm.org/go/0w2qvP_rU--
Mis on ametlik nimi - Juhan Liivi või J. Liivi? Maaametil
(http://xgis.maaamet.ee) nimi on J. Liivi, aga võibolla see on
ametliku nime lühend?

Hi,

sounds like a very good idea. From Estonia Jaak has been on several
SOTM-s, I have been visiting SOTM in Amsterdam and Girona, Andres Kaaber
was in Girona I suppose. I would not go into details but we were using
Russian there alot :)

Re: [Talk-ee] SOTM Baltic

Great!

Let's count how many attendants we have so far. We haven't advertized the
idea broadly yet. I just threw the idea among 7 attendants of online
meeting of the OSM Russian Board. 3 of us expressed a desire to come to
Estonia:
1) vvoovv (that's me)
2) Zverik
3) Zkir

A quik survey among both participants of the Russian forum from Estonia
revealed that:
4) SviMik is likely to attend the conference:
http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=327393#p327393
Vitalts is not sure yet:
http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=327416#p327416

5) We've got Margus (Martino) from the talk-ee so far

5 attendants so far. Not bad for the beginning!

No we need to decide: Tallinn or Tartu as the host city for the SOTM Baltic?
Zverik votes for Tartu.
I'd also prefer Tartu.
Zkir didn't express any preference, he would be simply happy to come to
Estonia after visiting it 20 years ago the last time.

I have an impression that Tartu is the GIS-center of Estonia since such
companies as Nutiteq and Regio are located in Tartu.

Margus, is Tartu ok for you as the host city?

Time for the SOTM Baltic: I suggest a weekend in July. The exact dates to
be decided. We need enough time for planning and preparation. Also it is
important to have enough time for some participants from Russia to apply
for Estonian visa.

Event format: very unformal (it's more like UNconference than an academic
conference): normal talks, lighting talks, podium discussions, social
event in a pub in the evening.

Participation in the event is free of charge.

Looking forward to your feedback

I'd prefer Tartu - because I live there ;)

 1) Do we make a small, mini-conference, or announce it in media
and attract tens of participants (at the least; in Russia last
 November we accidentally gained hundreds)?

If we could aim for a larger meeting, maybe we should give it a try.
Of course it would be harder to organize rooms for tens / hundreds of
people, so we should set a registration deadline, so we know how many
people will come.

 2) Can anyone arrange a hall for this conference?

Depends a bit on how many people will come. I could talk to colleagues
from the university. In the summer break there should be some free
rooms, but I need to check this.

 3) On which date?

I'd prefer the dates in June, because I won't be in Estonia around the
week from 8. to 12. July. But later in July would also be fine for me.

2013-04-11 Thread Jaak Laineste (Nutiteq)
Hello,

Tartu is just fine for me :) About timing - I created a poll in
http://doodle.com/anddmr2kpxwnmv773ea8r9aw especially for those who are ready
to contribute more than just participation. I marked all Saturdays, but it
could be even Sat + Sun event I guess.

Free hall from University would be nice. At least Head of Marketing and
Communication Office over there has once promised free space when we need it
for an international event. Also City government could be a supporter (they
host kaart.maakaart.ee server for us, and have contributed data).

Btw, I know some persons from the OSM global community who have asked me for
years for a good excuse to visit Estonia :) Can't promise SteveC, but why not
some of the other founders (board members).
