The Bat! - bug report - Message Forward and space waste

2000-11-09 Thread Dirk Heiser

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.48 Beta/3
  Serial Number 12A1F196
  under Windows 95 4.0 Build B
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

I have setup (all related settings) TB! to store Attachments in
the Mail Body _not_ in the Attach Directory. I have setup this in
_all_ Accounts.

Every Time i create a Forward, TB! save the Forwarded message in
the Attach Directory (but save the Message in the message body of
the created message) and _never_ delete this.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

Watch your Attach Directory and create a Forward.

Regards,
  Dirk Heiser

Re: run external program

2000-11-09 Thread Ming-Li

I tested the filter 'run external program' and got a question
 about it.

If you send your mail for example to notepad.exe you can edit it
easily. So far - so good. The problem is now, how to import it
again. Is there another way than with /IMPORT ?

I guess not. You have to call TB with the /import command switch
from your editor (if it allows) to get it back into TB. You won't
get two instances of TB; it's just another thread of the running TB.

If you want to import the mail to the original place, u have to
give the account and the folder name as options to the external
program - otherwise u don't know where the mail comes from.

Right.

But TB! saves the exported mail to tempfile. If you change this
tempfile, is it possible to import this file automatically to the
origin account and folder (for example if you close notepad.exe
the changed mail is reimported to the original place)?

I'm afraid not. It would be a nice feature to have. If you're trying
to edit your message headers before sending it out, there's a
third-party utility (IIRC, it's called X-Ray) for it. Otherwise
we'll out of luck for now. On a related note, being able to edit
received mail right in TB is a feature in great demand. But RIT has
got such a long list of wishes that we'll just have to wait and see.

Could you please these two line to your signature area? Well, it's
up to you, of course.

Same here.

Not confirmed. Wathced the Attach directory closely and nothing
happened when creating a forwarded message (either a plain message
or a message with attachments).

Right click on a folder, select Properties, check the option "Use
the account default column settings". You'll have to enable the
option for all the folders you want to use the default column
settings, since it's not checked when a new folder is created. (Yes,
the ability to set properties for several folders/accounts at a time
has been repeatedly requested.)

After that, you may adjust the column settings in any folder with
the option checked, and your change would be taken as the new
"default column settings" for that account. IOW, when you change the
column settings for a folder that uses the default column settings,
all other folders with that option on would use the new settings as
well.

Hello Max,

any statements from you regarding the problems with Beta/3 and Marek's

My question about POP3-SSL is still unanswered, too. Stefan said that
POP3-SSL is "coming soon" five months ago. This is not my definition

At last! At last! Yippee-yahoo!!

If we're at the column settings, could you add a "Sent" column to the Sent
Folder ?? There is a "Created" column for creation dates, a "Saved" column for
save dates, but no "Sent" column for the dates a message was actually sent!

I experience the same thing - neither the window position nor the Details
setting are sticky for IMAP.

Selection mechanism in new Mail Dispatcher Question (was: Re: 1.48 Beta/4)

A very fine addition indeed. What is the new quick way to toggle a
flag for all messages? I see the menu item, but is there some
keyboard/mouse combo that will allow us to click on the column headers
any more? I recommend enabling the right click to do this old task.

Oh, and I really like one additional feature that's been incorporated.
If you sort on any column, select the first message and hold the shift
key while resorting on that column, you can select all messages very
quickly. Nice touch.

CRC errors

2000-11-09 Thread Quin Selman

Hello TBBETA,

I've used PowerArchiver to extract the RAR files of the last two
betas (1.48b3 and b4). In both cases, I initially got a messages saying the files
had CRC errors in them. I couldn't extract them except after several
attempts. What are CRC errors, why are they there, and what should
  be done? Thanks.

Did you download them with Netscape? If you did, try downloading them
with a different browser (eg, Internet Explorer, Opera, etc) or a
dedicated FTP program. For some reason Netscape has a habit of
corrupting certain downloads.

Cyclic Redundancy Check is a form of error correction in which a 16
(= 4Kb data; detecting all single and double-bit errors) or 32 bit
polynomial ( 4Kb data) is applied to the send data, and the receiver
also calculates the polynomial. If they don't match, then the data is
 requested to be resent.

It is also used in files where a CRC is applied to the file, and the
software you use to open/view it calculates the CRC and if they
don't match, then you get the error.
