2.- The Bat! is not (never) shown in Applications tab of Task manager.

Grow up! You are on a beta list. That means you are beta TESTING. That
means bugs are to be EXPECTED.

They have been VERY UPFRONT about the way the licensing was going to
work.

Either accept it and realize they are doing what they said they would
do (and gave you a lot more while coming to this point!) Or go back a
version, quit the beta list and wait until 4.1 is officially released

Good. It is workable now but is not as reliable in my experience with
Gmail's IMAP as Thunderbird (which I use as a backup, to test with
Gmail's IMAP) or the new Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop, which uses IMAP for
both Yahoo Mail (my backup mail) and Gmail.

I must add that I like TB's interface and other features better than
either of the above, but the its IMAP still needs refining.

viewing HTML email glitch

2008-12-15 Thread Jim Nafus
Hello all.

For the past few versions of TB (including 4.1.1.4), I will be reading
through a longer HTML email (say a newsletter), and after about 2
seconds, TB will automatically scroll the email back to the top. This
seems to have gotten better in the last version of TB (only doing it
once) whereas prior versions would do it non-stop.

It seems to happen more in emails that have a lot of graphics. Could
TB be re-loading the page as new graphics are loaded causing this? It
is really a pain to try to read an email when it keeps going back to
the top.

Has anyone else seen this?

Yes. That happens until all graphics are loaded or grabbed first and loaded in
the mail then. Once that is done, that scrolling is over.
It is rather nasty indeed, I don't see a reason for it.

Hello Bob,

I agree that Christian went a bit overboard in his frustration, and I
had questions about the upgrade myself (considering that I renewed my

4.1, and it wasn't - although that was clarified in the February 2008
website posting, which satisfies me). However, let's not be unkind to

Haven't we all lashed out in frustration at times? So Christian must

One can 'ventilate' disagreement (even strong disagreement) and

good genes and good parenting and a regular spiritual life, having
relatively low life stress, and/or having a fundamentally holistic

At this present time, however, any one of us, under enough pressure,

I never said I approved of Christian's expressing himself in that

constructive and therefore better. I.e., Christian is responsible for
trying to do his best, and so are you and I. The real question for you
is, Did my response to Christian help him to attain more self- and

Re: Registration - v4.x

2008-12-15 Thread Christian Grams

You are right. But I think he was referring to that nothing changed
in those 4 years. Version 3.x and 4.x differs only in bug fixed
and some changed glyphs. He can't use 3.x anymore because it's still
buggy and not supported. At the same time he don't want to pay for bug
fixes that were supposed to be fixed before the next major release.

thankyou for making it more clear.

BTW, quite similar wording to License Agreements of many other software I use.

Well, legally RitLabs maybe right. But in any business you should
pay respect to clients, e.g. supporting old version and fixing
critical bugs at least for some time after next major version is
released. Or change major version number only when your program really
have changed much and not confuse the clients tricking into next buy.

I do not know why he can't use 3.x, but he has 4.0.x free. He can't use
4.0.x but used until today? Strange

4.0.x is not supported anymore too.

I could accept this only if previous upgrade fee was year before, not 4
years before. I do see respect to clients if they updated program for such
long time without any fee.

Yes. But there will be no butfixes further.

Are there any known *showstoppers* for that release cycle? I really
cannot remember one …

I am not talking about pet peeves, but about bugs that make The Bat!
unusable …

Yes, I can confirm this. For me, it is especially noticable (and
annoying) with the daily headlines email from the New York Times.

I checked my accounts records and now realise that it has been a while
since the last upgrade, and if memory serves me right, we (on the beta
list) got a free key for 4.0.x.

all keys for 3.x works in all versions 4.0.x for all users

The problem now do I pick the upgrade from 1-3, and will this get me a
key for the new version? The reason I ask this is because I am
assuming that the upgrade screen should not really know about the new
RC version, or is this not a problem?

The 4.1.x announcement should really have had the upgrade information
in it. It was a rather unpleasant shock to suddenly see that,
particularly as I am now away on holidays and having to use dialup.

like in this press release?
http://www.ritlabs.com/en/about/press_detail.php?ID=2309

Registered users of The Bat! v.3 can continue working with The Bat! v.4.0.x
without any limitations. For working with further The Bat! 4.x.x versions a
new key is required. On purchasing this new key registered users of any
previous The Bat! version are granted a 30% discount. Previous key is not
cancelled. Purchased keys can be used at the same time in terms of the
license agreement. Users that purchase The Bat! v.4.0 can work with any
further version of The Bat! 4.x.x. without restrictions.

Yes, this is by design. You've been asked once. Basically, it's not a
good idea to downgrade from a version that is using new message base

I see. But I'm testing the translation of the new index conversion warning
dialog(the string dlIdxNewFormatWarning1~4). So would you please tell me how to
invoke this warning dialog now? TIA

I have no objection to paying, that's why I wanted to know which of
the options on the upgrade page I should use, and the message on this
list with 4.1.1 should have had something about this as well. Anyhow,
everyone on the list should know about it by now.

I will give the upgrade from version 1-3 a go.

That is what I did, and it worked fine (Home Edition - I don't have
the Pro Edition).
