Re: Odd Address handling when quoting

2006-11-08 Thread Stuart Hemming
As far as I can see if its an account level template then you can set
TB! to use the initials on in accountpropertiestemplatesreply or
 the first name/last name etc.
But there seems to be a number of occasions when the standard TB!
behaviour gets it wrong, which is why the Initials QT was written.

Odd Address handling when quoting

2006-11-07 Thread Stuart Hemming
I get mail from someone whose From (and Reply-To) header comes in in the form

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Now when I reply to the message instead of getting some this like...

tp blah blah blah

I get ...

[EMAIL PROTECTED] blah blah blah

and I can't figure out why.

I've just had another message from someone in the same domain whose
quote marker behaved just as you would expect. Both headers seem to be
the same (or as similar as 2 headers can be).

Is there some odd setting that's doing this?

FWIW, I have access to a macro that generates the correct value for
the quote mark, but I've no idea how to apply this macro to every
individual line in the message.

As far as I know, this worked alright in the past but I don't have any
old exes to try it against any longer.

Re: Odd Address handling when quoting

2006-11-07 Thread Stuart Hemming
What sort of template are you using, is it specific to the sender?
Does this happen with anyone else that you reply to?
I've got an account-level reply template.

However, I /think/ I've identified the problem, but could do with
someone else trying it.

My template includes the line ...

  %QUOTESTYLE=%QINCLUDE(Initials)

So, the first thing I did was drop the call to 'Initials' with is a
quick template I got from somewhere.

I replaced the line with

  %QUOTESTYLE=NE

'cos NE are the initials of the person I was replying to. I created a
reply to one of NE's messages and got the full address as the quote
mark. The, accidentally, I hit reply for someone else whose address
has never been a problem and whose email comes in in the form

  My Mate [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The quote mark was, on this message 'My Mate. I tried another message
where the From line was in the form

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and got the whole address as the quote mark.

I went back to the template and changed it to ...

  %QUOTESTYLE=TW

And /all/ of the messages this time had a quote mark of 'TW' as you
would have expected.

/Then/ I had an idea. On the dialog that allows you to enter the
template for replies there are a set of radio buttons controlling how
quote marks are, by default, defined. A quick set of tests has
revealed that if you manually set %QUOTESTYLE and the first character
is the same as the first character as any of the radio button options
('N', 'I', 'F' or 'L') (upper or lower case) then TB! will use the
first of those options it finds whose first letter matches.

I can get around it my setting %QUOTESTYPE= NE.

Can anyone reproduce this?

Broken .sig delimiter

2006-10-31 Thread Stuart Hemming
I have bee using the same template for years. Never a problem.

Now people are complaining that my .sig delimiter is broken.

Looking at the template I can see that they are correct; the trailing
space has gone. So, I put it in and save it. Create a new message and
lo! it's gone again.

So, I create a new message (this one), I 'fix' the delimiter by adding
the trailing space. There is no evidence (in the MicroEd editor that
I'm using) that the space is there. Now, believe me, I've put it in,
let's see what happens.

Vili

I used Delphi 3, I can share the code if you need. (I implemented
different colors for different reply depths as it is in TB :)
Thanks, I appreciate the offer, 'cos I'm getting nowhere fast here.

My quick sample looks like this ...

//MAILU=Stuart at Work;[EMAIL PROTECTED];S=TEST;QUEUE

Obviously, Stuart at Work is the name of the account, it's not p/w
protected.

When I run the command, I can see a new copy of TB open in the test
list, but there's no sign of my message anywhere.

Re: Possible new bugs in new release? [Re: New Release....]

2006-09-05 Thread Stuart Hemming
I clicked Finish after the install. Just as with all installs.
I think you misunderstand.

I've done this a few times 'cos I'm heavy-handed. If you double-click
the installer in windows explorer (or rather double-double-click) the
2 copies of the installer will open and, because it's the same app,
the 2nd will appear immediately on top of the first. You do the do,
answer all the questions, etc and eventually click the 'Finish' button
and the dialog goes away revealing the 2nd copy, still at the start of
the install process 'cos you've not been there to answer any of its
questions.

Of course, if you're sure that you didn't do that then I'd blame it on
(checks excuses calendar, ah yes, my favourite) sunspot activity,
unless someone else reports it, at least.

You can't export a single contact (although you can copy it to LDIF
format, whatever that is).

If you have groups defined in your address book you can't export a

If you decide to export the whole AB you can spend ages fiddling with
the list of fields to export only to find when you've done it and
missed something to have to do it all again 'cos the dopy bit of kit
has thrown you last lot of settings away.

Re: Still incomplete painting on launch [was Re: The Bat! 3.81.05 Beta is now available]

2006-06-29 Thread Stuart Hemming
This beta is unusable for me--same problems as with v. 3.81.03 and its
 successor v. 3.81.04.
Me too.

With an added difficulty--cannot close the incompletely painted
window. Had to resort to Windows Task Manager to end TB!
Again, me too. I didn't have any problem closing 3.81.03/04 but this
version elopes with my processor as soon as it starts up.

I will just keep experimenting with various settings, to see if I can
nail the culprit down. At first I thought maybe my dpi setting might
be at fault (I have it at 120, which XP Settings/Advanced describes as
 Large).
Mine's normally on 'normal'

I also did a vigorous weeding out of Temp folders and old, now-unused
Apps, gaining thereby 5 GB of HD free space, raising that to 63%, in
case there were any file-management issues.
Running with plenty of free-disc here

RAM on this machine is 512 MB.
And I've got 1Gb so it's prolly not that either.

FWIW I'm running with OTFE switched on.

v 3.80.06 and Spyware Doctor

2006-06-14 Thread Stuart Hemming

Just to record that Spyware Doctor (SD) seems to find a false positive
with The Bat v3.80.06 It identifies around 500 registry entries
relating to TB as high risk, declaring them as signs of the trojan
Backdoor.Hackdoor. Then SD removes these items and forces a restart,
making TB unusable. This issue definitely arose only after installing
v3.80.06 - no problem with earlier issues of TB.

This has been reported to PCTools recently, and they are promising an
update of SD to fix this.

2006-05-04 Thread Stuart Hemming
Finally I managed to reproduce a bug that annoyed me for a loong
 time:
 - close all of your account, so on the left panel you see only the
 name of the accounts
Did that

 - click one of your message list tabs different from the All,
Did that.

then click All again. You should see the messages of the active
 account's Inbox.
Yep.

 - while on the left side you dont open any account, click on a mail on
the right side, like you would like to open a mail. Nothing happen.
Mail displays OK in the preview pane, but *double-clicking* fails to
open the message.

 - now, open your account, go to the Inbox, try to open a mail. AV,
 then opens the mail.
Confirmed, but *only* if I double-click in the previous step.

FWI, I'm running OTFE here.

SH ss1.gif shows a bit of the message tree pane for this list. Notice the
SH odd artifacts in Jernej's name.

I believe it is unicode's issue.
I've no doubt you're right and we've been seeing this for some time. I
was trying (and obviously doing so badly) to use this as a way of
identifying an underlying cause for the artifacts in the message pane.

Re: Strange Artifacts

2006-04-06 Thread Stuart Hemming
I have the same problem. This seems to be related to using a bitmap
font. We discussed this issue in
 mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
I was obviously off sunning myself when that was posted.

but so far there seems to be no solution other than use a truetype
font that is capable of displaying utf8 fonts. Never tried this
 myself though.
Hmmm. I /am/ using a TrueType font (Bitstream Vera Sans Mono). Whether
or not it is capable of displaying Unicode is another question.

My font of choice was Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. I've found a
derivitive of this font that includes more of the Unicode set called
DejaVu at http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Download.

As you suggested, the problem goes away.
