Maybe it's *.wad system (something like *.tar) is unusable in TB!
but it's *.cfg is qite good.
console (command line - in TB! close function provided by menu navigator)
You can configure lot of things in GUI. But if you are *gamer* you can edit
your *.cfg
file (plain text) and set anything from screen resolution, rendering mode to
hotkeys.
You even can bind some simple macros to keys :-).
And all is stable and working for a lot of people! (much more then TB! users).

So. all I want is : single plain text configuration files for each account.
In plain text you can copy, find, find and replace by most of editors :-)

While this may be true, Calypso is now 'dead' and no longer being
developed (or sold if I'm not mistaken). I was also a Calypso user
before switching to The Bat!. In fact I think that storing various
things in more than one file is an advantage. After a while, my
mailbox had grown to 117 MebiByte and that's without attachments which
I had at that time stored externally. Calypso had started to crash
regularly from the time it was even only half as big as that and in
the end the integrity check it would run on the mailbox upon
restarting the program would take more than 15 minutes. I'm not
prepared to wait that long to get back into my mail after a crash.

Hello Christopher,

On Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 2:04:58 AM you wrote in
msgid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (at least in part):

I did once move from Win2K to WinME and the registry's were not 100%
compatible which caused me one hell of a headache reconstructing my AB
 and my filters.

CJT When exporting from Win2000 you have to select compatible format of
CJT *.reg file.

Correct.
The difference between W2K and W9x/NT4 .reg files is
1.) The 'header'
'REGEDIT4' vs. 'Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00'
2.) W2K .reg files are unicode.

If exporting the registry branch in W2K one can choose which format
this will have, so there should not be a problem with exporting the
settings stored in registry, which are, as you stated correctly, not
account specific, unless it's among others the information what
accounts are known to The Bat! and where they are located.

Most of information stored in registry are font, column and window
settings like position of 'Mail Ticker (tm)', visible tool bars,
viewer settings, XLAT-tables and of course the register information.

So one should be able to recover all accounts without the registry,
maybe with a little bit of work for settings up all account 'new' wich
will make The Bat! re-find the former directories and importing
account settings automatically. One thing to stumble over was (and
might still be) that if your username for POP3 / IMAP connecting
had/has an '@' inside everything after '@' including '@' was/is cut
off.
Me for example had an account with username equals to e-mail-address.
After such an 'emergency recovery' the username was set to first part
of e-mail-address only. I don't know if this is fixed, never tried it
since several months.

David van Zuijlekom a écrit :

Not all,
You will have to add all accounts that you have. For every account use
existing folder.
This will keep all account settings (subfolders)
Also you addressbook will survive :-).

Reg key - simply enter it again :-).

First - make export of RIT branch (as backup).
Then you can delete all keys, except those for registration or account
setting.
Or, if you will confused - you can simply import all RIT branch in order
to restore.

Best regards, Sergey.

P.S. I hate the situation, when some settings kept in registry, others -
in files with different
formats. Maybe it will be good idea to keep all common settings in
single txt file in TB! directory
(maybe signed by TB!) and account settings in single file in account
dir?
Another point: Mentioned above procedure is easy way to prolong trial
period for next 30 day :-).

This nice idea I endorse. It's on the wish list for a long time - and
not only with TB!. INI's are much better to maintain, don't slow down
the system (at least not when not in use) and are easy to delete if
one decides to un-install a programme. Win9x would be much more stable
without the registry.
