Re: Have you ever missed the possibility of assigning more than 1 Colour Group?

2006-10-23 Thread MAU
Hello Thomas,

The colour groups are assigned by filters.

Or just manually my friend, or just manually :)

The virtual folders are search results, a way of filtering just for
display, but filtering nevertheless. These filters also have
 conditions.

I didn't know that ;)

If I understand you correctly, message A should have both colour group
1 and colour group 2 assigned, so you can see it when I search for CG1
and also when you search for CG2. You might even have VFs that look
for CGs accordingly, so you don't need to start the search manually
 every time.

I guess you didn't understand me correctly, maybe because I didn't
explain it clearly enough.

Say I'm looking at a message that I subjectively consider both
'important' and 'for reference' and that I have two Colour Groups called
*Important* and *For Reference*. Do you know of any way I can assign
those 2 CGs to the message? That's what I'm looking for and that I could
do that with Bookmarks in VA.

Re: Have you ever missed the possibility of assigning more than 1 Colour Group?

2006-10-23 Thread MAU
Hello Paul,

Can you create a virtual folder [For Reference] and a Color Group
 [Important], or:
Use the Flag for Important and use a Color Group for Reference.

Both methods work well for me.

I use flags for other purposes. Anyway, what if I want to 'flag' a
messages as 'Important', 'For Reference', 'Action Pending','Fwd2David'
and, in general, 'Category X', 'Category Y', etc.,etc.?

With Bookmarks, I can create as many 'categories' as I want and if I
want to (because I subjectively think so) assign a message to all of
them. That can be done with watch folders right now, I can 'watch for
replies' to a message in as many Watch (chat) Folders as I want to, and
later on remove the watch separately from each folder. For example, I
can easily remove it from the 'Action Pending' one because I have taken
whatever action was needed, but the message will still show in the
'Important' and 'Category X' bookmarks (watch folders).

OK. I do this by copying the message to an appropriate folder.

For example, I receive seafreight rates to Tokyo. Of course, they
belong in the Japan folder. I manually copy the mail into the
seafreight rates folder where all seafreight rates regardless of
destination are kept.

What you want to achieve sounds more elegant.

OK. I do this by copying the message to an appropriate folder.

I did that a long time ago, but it is a bit more cumbersome to use (copy
and select the folder), it has the overhead of multiple copies
of a message (including attachments), the copies do not reflect the
changes to flags (replied, forwarded, flag and keep) of the original,
you cannot easily go to the original from one of the copies (you have to
remember or guess where the original is), etc., etc.

What you want to achieve sounds more elegant.

And more practical and easy to use. See attachments :)

Hello Paul,

comprendo, You are a little more complex than me in your organization.
Your suggestion is to have a Groups type of function for messages that
works similar to the Groups in the Address Book, yes?

Yes, you are right. I had not thought about it but yes, it is somewhat
similar (equal?) to AB groups.

You have convinced me. I have added my support to
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6057

I like the concept of multiple labels (call them bookmarks if you
want), rather than just the Flag, which is a yes/no label.

The colour groups are assigned by filters. These filters have

Why don't you just create a virtual folder that searches for / filters

Or better, just create a VF that searches for the conditions in CG1
and another that searches for the conditions in CG2? This way, a

without even the need of the intermittent step of assigning the CGs in

You won't have this problem if you create the virtual folders the way
