This is just to make sure, over here (The Netherlands) we've got ADSL

I think it's just a bit too much to ask from TB to keep the link
between the saved message/draft and the original message and wait till
you decide what to with it. When you save it to the outbox, the
original is marked, that's the best moment I guess.
When you want that to happen on sending, TB needs to search your
message base for the message you replied to and that'll take more time
for sending, especially for those with tens or hundreds of thousands

That's easy. When a message is crossposted to tbot, then the recipient
contains both tbbeta and tbot, but I'd like a copy in the folders for
both lists, therefore I'm using a header that's being added by the
list server. (Like Reply-To, List-ID, etc)
I use the Reply-To, because that's used by all lists I'm subscribed

Here we're getting to the same old discussion.
Using an ini file means you've got to store it somewhere. Find me a
location for that ini file that doesn't force different users to use
the same settings (so you can't use the programdir like Voyager),
doesn't store it in documents and settings (because that won't work
with the Voyager idea) and still makes it possible to put my message
base wherever I want.
For a multi user environment on one system the registry is the most
logical place to store settings per user. For a one multi-pc setup
like voyager it's the programdir.

ND When trying to restore a backup from my main TB! program Voyager
ND insists on writing the directories using the original path.

Can't confirm that. Not the first time I restored a backup and not
just now. Created a new instance of Voyager (this time on my local
drive and not my USB drive) and restored my weekly backup.
Everything went ok.

ND So in my original mail folder I end up with all the normal files
ND along with encrypted folders along side. If I make the original
ND path unreadable all I get is errors in Voyager telling me it can't
ND write to it - which it shouldn't be doing anyway!

So you weren't using OTFE, that's a difference with me. Did you have
all of your accounts stored in the same mail directory or were they
in different locations?

ND I have not been able to get any common filters copied over to it.

Can't comment on that as I don't use those.

ND If I just copy the folders from my main program over to the USB drive
ND and try to point Voyager to use that as the home for a new account it
ND doesn't recognize any of the content in those folders and just creates
ND a new empty account.

I guess that could be because of the unencrypted format of your current
accounts, because that's what I did for test purposes just now.
You should realize though that Voyager needs the account directory to
be stored in a subdirectory MAIL of the programdir.
I tried it and got the message that a message base for Secure Bat! was
encountered in the MAIL directory nd that it had a different
encryption key (not true, same key) and subsequenty it was being
opened just fine.

ND On some fresh installs I would end up with a program that wouldn't
ND allow any additions to filters. Any changes I made were lost between
ND sessions.

What version did you use? All of my tests were run with the first
voyager.zip extracted and the latest beta put on top of it.

While running these tests I finally came up with two instances of
Voyager installed on the same HDD, this didn't cause me any troubles.
What I also tried was to run two instances of Voyager (from different
locations) but that didn't work. Running Voyager and TB at the same
time causes me no problem whatsoever.

HDB Are there intentions of implementing GPG (like Mobility Email)? Because

Re: Voyager - I'm crying Uncle.

2005-12-05 Thread Roelof Otten
Hallo Nick,

On Mon, 5 Dec 2005 13:10:28 -0600GMT (5-12-2005, 20:10 +0100, where I
live), you wrote:

I guess that could be because of the unencrypted format of your current
 accounts,
ND Probably. So... what's the trick to converting to OTFE in Pro?

Unfortunately converting to OTFE almost is like switched to Voyager.

However here it comes.

Create an internal back-up with TB, including everything.
Now copy your complete message base to a safe location (that's not
needed for the transition, but just in case)
Export the TB registry settings to a safe location
(The full HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat! tree)
Uninstall TB
Delete your message base
(The uninstall shouldn't do that, but just in case it does you already
have got your backup)
Install TB pro
On running it'll ask you whether you want to use OTFE, answer yes and
pick a password (that's needed for en/decryption)
Next it'll ask whether you want to create a new account or restore
from backup, select the backup option and restore everything.

Note that this won't restore any spam dictionaries you might have put
in your mail directory too or cookie files, but basically this
restores and encrypts everything.
You've got to close and open TB again before it loads the restored
registry settings.

When it doesn't work as you want, uninstall TB again.
Delete the message base
Install TB, but don't run it.
Copy your original message base back to its old location
Restore TB's old registry settings (just open the exported file)
Start TB and everything is back to normal.

One note:
When you're using a restricted user account in Windows, you can't
(un)install TB, so you've got to that that from an admin account. This
means that TB's registry settings in the account you're using TB won't
be deleted with uninstalling it. (Makes kind of sense) So you've got
to delete those settings via regedit.
Yes, this means that it's possible to run an encrypted message base in
one user account under Windows and plain under an other account. (Yes,
I'm doing that, my guest account has a plain message base)

Long standing bug in scheduler still not fixed

2005-12-06 Thread Roelof Otten
Hallo tbbeta,

  https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=3157
When you create a new event in the scheduler with a message that's
supposed to be sent to all linked contacts, TB creates a new
message all right, but addresses it to Max 0, Stefan 0,
  Alexander 0, 9Val 0, etc.
It inserts 0 for every address, so the Rit-guys didn't an
  invitation for my birthday party.
It would be nice if they finally could get it to function properly.
After all the issue has been submitted to bugtrack on 20 June last
year and it still hasn't been assigned to anybody.

Can anybody confirm this bug and add a note?

After all, what's the use of a scheduler in a mail client when you
  can't schedule mails.

Yuck, try to encrypt their names.

MS Also Shift-Crtl-Alt-L does not work (but this is for IMAP only,
MS right?).

It's supposed to work for pop accounts too, but you need to have the
focus on the account tree when using it. Never tried it with OTFE
though.
Okay, I tried. Deleted a folder, kept the message base intact and
pressed Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L and didn't get it back.

MS 1) Folders are missing.

That's bad

MS 2) With over 100 folders I don't even know what folders are missing.

That's even worse.

Well, I've got this idea.
Create a backup with TB.
Install Voyager.
Restore your backup into Voyager with the same password, that's what I
did and guess what. The directory names are the same.
Presuming that TB doesn't backup unknown folders, you've got to
concentrate on the folder names that are lacking Voyager.
BTW You don't need an USB device to install Voyager, a directory on
your harddisk will do fine.

MB It is about the long-standing bug in the Outbox behavior that causes
MB it to over-ride Address Book template macros for OpenPGP and instead

That's no bug. That's because macros are only executed when you start
to edit the message body. When you edit the text and afterwards you
alter the To: header you're not complaining that the macro driven
salutation isn't adapted?
Same as when you use the %Attachments macro, it's only used when you
start to edit the text, when you add an attachment later, then your
text is adapted.
This is the same only more so. To alter this behaviour you should need
macros that are executed at sending, at saving, etc.
The %NoUsePGP macro sets an editor property, but as soon as you close
that editor your properties get lost and on opening a new editor the
account settings are used.

Basically what you ask for is a complete new macro engine. That's no
bugfix, but a new feature.
Mind you, I don't mind such a new feature, after all I run into this
myself every once in a while, but add it to the wishlist and not as a
bug, because that means that you don't understand TB's macro system.

MB Well, I have been writing about this for two days, ever since it

Yes, I noticed, but I didn't have the time to reply to it before.

MB In my logical, commonsense amateur view, the Outbox should respect
MB the address in the To Field and Address Book templates should prevail
MB over Account templates.

Listen carefully what you're saying now. You're talking about address
book templates and account templates, but it's no account template
that's bugging you, it's either a general setting. When you're opening
a written message there is no template that can be interpreted,
because when that would happen, you'd lose the text you'd already
written. You can't have half of the template to be interpreted again
and the other half to be neglected.

MB So, whether it's a failure in design or a bug in the design workings,
MB it is something I deal with--not every once in a while, as you do--but
MB every day.

In that case I can only suggest that you finish your messages without
saving them as draft. You could change the general setting when it's
bothering you that much, but I guess that would mean that when you're
writing a message you don't want to sign, will prompt you for a
signature.

MB It is not a new feature that I'm asking for.

Yes, it is a new feature. Just because you don't understand what's
causing the issue, doesn't mean it's a bug.

MB It is for the MicroEd to work when called from the Outbox the same as
MB it does when called from Write a message to this address or when
MB called from a Reply button or Reply shortcut key.

No, you don't want that, because that would mean that you'd start with
an empty message and you don't want that.

CR some special settings ... ?

I suppose it's possible to do what you're suggesting, but I'm not sure
whether that would make any sense. Remember that it's most likely that
you install TBV on a mobile piece of equipment, like a USB stick. When
you want to access that stick with TB pro, you'd need to have that
stick in your pc and why should you use TB as you've TBV available on
the same stick. Apart from that, when you're stick isn't available
your copy of TB pro will generate errors, as it hasn't (all of) it's
accounts available.

However, as I've already done the opposite from what you're suggesting
(accessing a backup from my encrypted TB message base with a test copy
of TBV) I'm sure that you can convince TB pro to access a TBV message
base. Provided of course that you're using the same password on both
setups, because the encryption is password dependant.

Please include a signature delimiter in your messages. This consists
of a dashdashspacereturn, i.e., a '-- ' by itself on a line.
This allows your readers, when replying, to quote your text without
the signature and list footers since everything below and including
the sig delimiter is excluded when quoting.

You can easily automate this process by including the sig delimiter in
your templates.

Even if you barely have a signature to speak of, that doesn't make any
difference to whether or not you need a cut mark. You are being

TBV isn't supposed to list itself in the registry whatsoever. It
should leave the registry alone. Therefore it should not be able to
install itself as the default mail client. The only thing that's wrong
is that it offers the (non-functioning) option to do so.
The preferences for this should be deleted, but I guess their presence
has something to do with the similarity in code between TB and TBV.

TB 3.70.03 doesn't remember the interface settings (OTFE)

2006-01-25 Thread Roelof Otten
Hallo tbbeta,

On using 3.70.03 for the first time it didn't show any toolbars (as
  configured).
On starting it for the second time, it showed my toolbars and it
  doesn't use my customized shortcuts.

Using OTFE here, might be related.

On the second run, I deleted the toolbars again, but the third run
had them show up again. The tbuser.eef file has been updated though.
(Bad idea, I know, probably means that I've lost my original
  customization.)

Not a beta issue.
You're mistaken about the function you selected. That adds the contact

On the toolbar, next to the new message button, you'll find a

The drop down list that you're talking about is the list belonging to
