v1.49 -- can't receive nor receive mail
This is my 2nd try. Still can't install 1.49 to make it work. Does any one out there has any suggestions? -- I had 1.44 and installed 1.49 over 1.44. I noticed the icons' color are all lighter shade -- "Get New Mail" is light sea blue, "Send Queue Mail" is light green, etc. Then when I try to retrieve mail. The dialog box appear briefly, then disappear -- with no new messages after 24 hours since my last retrieval. The Log Panel displayed "connection finished - 0 message received". However, theBat NEVER asked me for the password, although it was set to do that on every retrieval. [I don't save my password in the program.] Then I try to send a test message. The dialog box appears, and the graphic bar went from 0 to 100%; then the dialogbox disappears. The "sent" message appears in the Sent folder; but I didn't get it in my other account. No error message. So I uninstalled TheBat; and reinstalled it. No change. Same problems. I tried installing 1.48f. Same problems. When I reinstalled 1.44 over 1.49, everything works. I am using Win95a, if it makes any difference; no virus programs, no firewalls running in the background. Any possible diagnosis? If I can't get any answers here, where else can I go to get this to work? Thanks in advance JM Using The Bat! 1.44 Under Windows 95 4.0 Build 950 === End === -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
How to... - regex
Hello, On every mailing list (ie. ListBot, eGroups...) there is an advertisment like this one (example from ListBot): --- ListBot Sponsor -- Dial 800-555-TELL. Instant updates - One free call. Sports, stocks, driving directions... much more! http://www.bcentral.com/listbot/tellme1 -- Is there any regex that can help me to remove this when replying? Advertisments are pretty 'constant' - 6 rows, first one and the last are common. So, I need a regex that will search from this first line and delete this and 5 rows afterward. Then you could go back later to retrieve the balance of the partially downloaded message. This is exactly how it worked in Eudora, and I sued that feature a lot before I converted to TB almost two years ago. Many a time have I requested a similar functionality of the "download header only if message over ... kb), because the current functionality (namely that the message is deleted from server after download of header) is contra-intuitive. After I download the header can I decide whether or not I want to download the full message. By that time is has already been deleted from the server. :-( -- Cheers, Thomas. Newbie: Sorting office and batch
Hello , (one more try: last one was loose in a thread ?...) So, this is my 2nd post ;) I'm using The Bat since a couple of month to read/write my emails but nearly never to send or receive it - the main reason is that I'm running a BBS. A Let's hope that quicksearch disappears in Version 2.0, I hope it will not, because I do use it and it works properly for me and it is one of advantages of TB! against other MUA for me. Hello everyone! My first posting, so expect some irregularities... People who use both hands on the keyboard probably prefer the Quick Search. I prefer to use the right hand on the mouse and the left on the keyboard. Hence, I like one key keyboard shortcuts. (Like Gravity does it). Having Quick Search as a selectable option could satisfy everybody. I would prefer to activate Quick Search with "spacebar" or "Q". And use the letters for shortcuts to New, Reply, Forward, Headers, Kludges, and so on. Hi Jan, On Mon, 22 Jan 2001, at 15:55:25 -0500 you wrote: Lars Change 'Options' - 'Security' to 'SMTP with login'. JR Not quite sure what you mean here. GMX supports three methods of SMTP authentication. The newest and most secure one is 'SMTP with login' (commonly known as RFC 2554). If you created your account before a certain date (I don't remember it exactly) the security option is set to 'POP before SMTP' as default. This is how the SMTP server expects the client to authenticate. Note: these are the settings of GMX, they have nothing to do with your account properties in TB! You can change them if you log in on their web site. I would recommend activating RFC 2554 (or at least checking if it is already activated). JR My current settings look like this now: JR SMTP Server = mail.gmx.co.uk OK, as I wrote before. JR Perform SMTP authentication (RFC 2554) *not* selected JR Use POP before SMTP authentication *is* selected These two depend on what you activated in GMX' options. As stated above, I recommend activating RFC 2554 in your GMX account and then activate this setting in your account properties in TB! and *deactivate* 'Use POP before SMTP authentication'. Your settings in TB! have to be the same as GMX' server settings. The SMTP server will refuse a connection if you don't authenticate yourself the way it expects you to. [rest snipped, should be no problem] I hope this will fix your problems. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.49c on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hi Jan, On Mon, 22 Jan 2001, at 20:57:49 -0500 you wrote: JR TB! This is getting strange now. As you can rcv mail, your user name and password settings must be correct, so no need to change this. BTW, the SMTP server accepts both your customer number and your complete eMail address as user name, I just checked this. What error does TB! report when trying to send mail? Feel free to contact me off-list, as this is becoming quite a specific discussion now. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.49c on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

However, theBat NEVER asked me for the password, although it was set to do that on every retrieval. [I don't save my password in the program.] They changed the password handling in 1.49. Go to Account/Properties/Transport/Receive Mail/Authentication. there check the box at the lower end ("Do not store.."). Your problem should now be fixed. I had the same and we found this way. Just not entering a password is not enough to not store it. TB! will store the password you enter on your first POP trial. If you mistype you will never get mail again ... luck you! ;-) By "first POP trial", I assume you mean the first POP *after* installing 1.49. If correct, it never asked for my password and there4 I never entered it -- after I installed 1.49. What are your exact settings under Account / Properties / Transport / Receive Mail, and what is behind the corresponding Authentication button? No, you don't need to tell us your passwort g. We assume you have double-checked it. But do tell us where it is filled in. And all the other stuff, including tickmarks. Also, what does your logfile say? Please let us have all lines for a FETCH. IMHO something is weird in your settings, because obviously everybody else can read their mail. -- Cheers, Thomas. Moderator der deutschen The Bat! Beginner Liste. I am back to 1.44 (since I can't use TheBat in 1.49 until the problem is solved); and I have no authentication set for POP. When I installed 1.49, I never change any of these settings. So the settings for 1.49 was the same as 1.44. Receive Mail -- POP server is pop.netzero.net (but I am connected to earthlink.net when I launch TheBat); the password is blank (so I have to type it in every time). The only tickmark is "Combined delivery". Also, what does your logfile say? Please let us have all lines for a FETCH. I don't have that anymore. But I remember looking at the log panel at that time, and it said "connection finished - 0 message received". I'll reinstall 1.49 tomorrow, and report back.
