Hello TBUDLs

Can I set a global access password for all my accounts or do I have to

TIA.

Re: Need help. Filters doesn't work.

2001-02-17 Thread Shahar

MDP Filters are applied *while importing received messages*.
MDP Messages that are placed in the inbox of another account by a
MDP filter will *not* be filtered again.

NA What about right clicking the Inbox after the messages have been
NA filtered there, and then manually choosing 'Re-filter Messages'?

Indeed - which is what I meant when I said:

I use this method now. Works fine.

Thank you.

CTRL+* on the keypad does exactly that. Unfortunately there is
only a workaround to close all threads. You need to press Alt+0
to switch to 'No threading' and then Alt+1 or Alt+2 to return to
your previous way of threading.

TB! v1.49 - mysterious deletions

2001-02-17 Thread Jan Rifkinson

Hello TBUDListers.

I was extremely upset this AM to find an error msg from TB! (which
had to be re-started) the fact that about 100+/- msgs were deleted
from a series of folders sub-folders that were *only* marked to
  compress, i.e. no deletion date.

I did not run any manual filters. I did not move any of these

to 'Park' everything I want saved as a precaution even in a folder

2. What can be done about it?

Have you tried "Folder | Browse deleted messages" for the relevant folders?

From one English-speaking German to another: Very good joke!

And now for the original problem, which I see, too. In my experience
even a documentation won't help. Most people don't read it (does RTFM
mean anything to you?) and actually don't need it for their most
 basic needs.

I know a lot of people using OE with its standards enabled (HTML,
automatic opening and so on). Not one of them really uses HTML
formatting. You may remember, I once or twice ranted about those
folks as they sometimes even put their whole message (a short
question or else) into the subject line - and send it as HTML ...

BTW, is there a documentation (except help file) for most of MS
 products, especially OE and Windows?

And for volunteers: I think you and me, Thomas, are able to translate
or even rewrite the documentation. But I also see that Ritlabs may
depend too much on users, who work for free.

Don't get me wrong, as long as we help one another - and promote such
a good programme - that's okay with me. I just think TB! is now big
enough to not rely on volunteers for free anymore. There is a
difference between other users helping out and being the support
department for a company, even if it is small.

Basically I concur. But - there'll always be a "but" - TB!'s plug-in
does not show the correct version until you Hexedit the corresponding
DLL.

That is, to show the version I use (a non-i-international as you can
see below), I had to hack the DLL; a method not only recommended on
this list but also by Ritlabs itself.

It would really be nice to have a plug-in that "just" invokes PGP, so
that all features can be used (i.e. adding to comment block), leaving
comment blocks etc. to PGP.

AFAIR plug-ins for other clients are provided by NAI, not by the
programmers of OE, Eudora etc. And that makes sense, obviously.

I completely agree this, IMO its time to ritlabs stopping developing
new version (except of critical bugs) and working a bit on documentation.
I keep in mind that this lovely program is not free (beyond the 30 trial days).

Welcome!

I'm not sure about this. If v2 is still, say, more than a year away,
I would agree with you. If it's a week away, then why bother, since
much of the documentation would have to be modified again. If it's
anywhere in between, then it depends. My point is, whether to stop
developing new version to work on documentation depends heavily on
something that we don't know.

How close is v2 to the finish line, is anyone's guess. Even RIT
folks might not know it for sure. But we as users couldn't possibly
know better than they do.

As someone in *dire* need of some features promised for v2, I for
one would certainly vote for RIT folks to go full speed ahead with
v2, though I understand people who are content with the current
version might think a better documentation is more important.

That's not quite my point ;-). I think they should develop on. The
main problem for a lot of us in being volunteers for a project like
documentation for a complex programme like TB! is - those of us who
can usually do it as a job to earn their meat, I'm afraid.

With the Internet we have the possibility that a company can be
"virtual". Ritlabs don't have to employ someone for docu and
translation, they can use the resources found for instance on this
list as freelancers.

Just think of it: MS does not provide good docu for some of its
programmes (esp. Win9x). Now users have problems and ask - a very
expensive hotline or other users. Then someone writes a documentation,
puts it on line and wants nothing for it. He is not really working for
the users (who will love this) but for MS!

I won't go on with this as I think most of us can grasp the whole
argument within seconds themselves ;-).

But we should move on to TB! topics :-).

Cannot Download

2001-02-17 Thread Jerry Belknap

Hello TBUDL,
I have installed The Bat but I am unable to download messages. I am
able to upload but when I download I get a message that connection
completed no messages. There are messages on the server. I have
checked on information on transport and have entered my password. I
have found that when I use the advanced feature and check the box to
hide the password and try to download I get no prompt for the
password. I have MSN as an IP and have removed outlook as my email
client as I thought that might be hindering but to no avail. Any
  suggestions appreciated.

I hope I remember that right, I think MSN uses a proprietary password
mechanism (like Hotmail?!) which is implemented only in - want to try
yourself? - right, OE and its cousin.

There is a workaround, which I actually don't know exactly, but it has
to do with a third-party-product like Hamster. For details - if I am
right - other members of this list might be more useful.

If I am wrong I apologize to you and MS ;-).
