Problems - Can someone HELP ME?
Hello TBUDL, Today I had to reinstall theBat and by accident when the pop-up window asked if I wanted to delete my mail folders, I must have said yes. Sadly, I have not backed up any of these and now they are gone. Is there any way to get them back. Also, when I click on the hyperlink in messages, theBat does not engage my browser. This is why I reinstalled, thinking that something wasn't configured properly. Now theBat will not open up my browser. What do I do? Lastly, this all started because I was having difficulty getting mail from my Yahoo! account. Everything was working fine, but yesterday for some unknown reason, theBat will not download them to my desktop. I have asked Yahoo! for help but have not received a reply. I asked my ISP if they started blocking external mail accounts but they said No. What gives? I could sure use some help right now - especially trying to re-capture my lost mail folders. -- Best regards, janets83 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hello Jan, Are they still on the harddsik? If not, they are probably gone. It is always better to make regular updates, and especially when you reinstall the software. The last two days or so we had a thread about backing up the TB!. There were 2 or 3 very good ways to do so. I strongly recommend that you take a look at the archives (Archives: http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com), subject was at least "A backing-up story". What happens when you double-click? If the file type is associated with your browser in Windows, it should work. BTW, what browser is that? Make sure that your browser is set as the default browser. This problem seems to come up if one has installed several browsers whereas none really is the default browser if it is not clearly set to be so. Haven't heard anything, but my free webmail providers (gmx and kimo) also are unreachable sometimes for a day or two. No reason to panic and reinstall software. Re: Digest (02/24/2001 22:42) Special Issue (#2001-859)
Hello everybody having troubles using GMX, When I use GMX's SMTP server, I just set TB to POP before SMTP. What you should do nowadays is under Properties - Transport - SMTP-Server - Authentication, check "Perform SMTP Authentication" and leave it to "Use settings of Mail retrieval". You don't need to check "POP before SMTP". Then under your Pop-server you should have your user-number rather than your GMX-Email-address and of course your password. You do not need to change anything at the GMX web-interface. And most important: Be aware that your Email-address under Properties - General _MUST_ be your GMX-Address!! If not, you will never be able to use the GMX-SMTP-server. Also, make sure that any address set individually for a folder must also be your GMX-address. This is just one reason why *I* don't use the GMX-SMTP-server - I have multiple personalities ;-) Greetings, Alexander -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Go to the 'programs' tab and check if 'The Bat!' is selected under the 'e-mail' option. If not, select it and apply the change. That should do it. Are you sure? I would say: setting a mail-client there tells IE/Netscape which program is to be used when clicking on a link in the form of mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] on a web-site. If there is no reaction when clicking on a link inside the _mail-client_ then there is a problem with the setting of the default _browser_. AFAIU. The current JL version of Becky! is 2.00.03 and the current version of TB is 1.49. A JL lot of the goodies in the current version of Becky! will be present in JL v. 2.0 of TB as well. :-0 So You think, that Becky! developement should be stopped, so The Bat! can release v2.0??? Re[3]: New Browser window (shift double-click)
Hello Dave, Okay, I've figured out how to add the OpenNew action on Netscape running under Win95b. Unfortunately it doesn't help at all with the shift-double-click idiom (within TB) failing to open a new NS window. Here are the steps I took to get there. 1. Open an explorer window, go to viewoptionsfiletypes 2. Find in the list of registered file types, find "Netscape Hypertext Document" and select it 3. Click the "Edit" button 4. Click the "New..." button 5. Name the action "OpenNew" 6. Specify the NS exe on your system for "application used to perform action:" 7. tick "use DDE" 8. DDE message should say "[open("%1", 0x0)]" without the outermost quotes 9. Application should say "NSShell" without the quotes. 10. Topic should say "WWW_OpenURL" without the quotes. 11. done Having done this, I now have an "OpenNew" option on the context menu (right-click menu) for html documents in windows exploerer, and it works like you'd expect, but my original problem still exists inside TB. Shift-double-click on a hypertext url does not open a new browser window. I guess I'd like to ask if there are any NS users out there for whom the shift-double-click idiom DOES work? Re: Ouch! Where Are My Messages?
Hello Thomas, Double-click on the MT. Nothing happens. Does this maybe have to do that there is no new message in my inbox but only in other folders? Message age: nothing set. A View folder window opens, which contains all unread messages that are announced in the MT. Sounds like not every new message is announced in the MT?? I have the feeling that something is not working correctly here on my system :-) Greetings, Alexander -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Sorry for giving you wrong information the last time. It turns out that the "HTML Document" type controls only a file with .htm or .html extension. It has nothing to do with clicking on a URL in TB (or any applications). I thought it's controlled by the "URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol" type, but I found, on my system, only one action is available for that type, which is "Open". No "OpenNew" is available. Yet shift-double-click works fine here. So now it's beyond me. Hello Lars, Sunday, February 25, 2001, 1:27:50 PM, you wrote: LG So you say that the flapping wings of the bat will attract LG attention? You see, that's exactly what they are made for. The LG flapping wings are supposed to draw the user's attention to the LG fact that there are new messages Actually the icon animation draws attention to the fact that there are UNREAD messages, which is not quite the same thing, especially if, like me, you tend to not read all messages as soon as they come in. The icon animation would be a lot more useful if it did actually work in the way you suggest. One possibility would be for the icon to animate only if there are new messages since the last time TB had focus. Hello Ming-Li, No apology necessary. I appreciate your trying to help. Because of your contribution we've ruled out one possible source of the problem, and that's a useful thing. The icon animation would be a lot more useful if it did actually work in the way you suggest. One possibility would be for the icon to animate only if there are new messages since the last time TB had focus. Perhaps the developers will take notice It's one of those features I like as it is but others surely have different opinions. If the icon behaved the way you suggest it, I could never be sure if there are no unread messages or if the bat just accidentally had the focus some time ago. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.49e on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
