Space moves down

2004-06-17 Thread Charles M. Gerungan
When reading mail messages, space scrolls down the message pane and
when the end of the message has been reached, it moves down to the next
message.

However, I have sorted my messages by date descending. I couldn't find
an option to have space move to the next unread message -- in my case,
that would be up -- instead of blindly moving down. Is that correct? Has
that feature been discussed yet?

ALT+F12 will bring up the shortcuts editor, then go to Message List

Import from Outlook fails

2004-06-17 Thread Armin Mutscheller
Hi,

I'm evaluating TB and would LOVE to use it as an alternative to Outlook,
but for some reason I'm unable to import existing Outlook folders and
messages. When I select an Outlook folder for import, TB starts working
really hard and displays a progress bar. It also creates the respective
folder structure in the file system, as well as in the Account pane, but
when the import is complete all of these folders remain empty. The
number of messages to import makes no difference. Apparently this
behaviour occurs only when an MS Exchange server is present. On another
system, with Outlook running as a stand-alone application, all Outlook
folders are imported properly.

Does anybody know what I can do about this? (Other than exporting 2 GB
of messages into a PST file)

Regards,
Armin

I had the same problem, the only way is to first export from Outlook into

You should have no problem importing the address book direct from Outlook

What you could try is importing the data via Outlook Express. It is
not as simple as a direct import, but the transfer between Outlook
and Outlook is painless.

I am not sure why there should be a problem with Exchange, but is
guess the problem is that the message storage if you are using Outlook
with Exchange is different, and messages and data are held on the
server, rather than locally.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the

Were either of those folders checked in Account Properties - Mail

This sounds like a networking problem. I presume you posted your

XP? Please explain briefly how the network is set up as this will help.
Also, where is thebat.exe located; i.e the installer?

You will have to setup a workgroup for your network; e.g. MSHOME. And in
the workgroup you have at least two computers: DESKTOP and LAPTOP.

If you share a folder called 'THE_BAT!' (in My Documents) it will be
known as \\DESKTOP\THE_BAT! on your network. You need to copy the
installer (thebat.exe) to this folder. Note: shares cannot have spaces
in their name.

Now, from your laptop you need to open 'My Network Places'. If you've
set up the network correctly you will see a folder called 'THE_BAT! on
DESKTOP' (or similar). Open the folder and copy thebat.exe to a folder
on your laptop. Now you should be able to run the installer without
problem.

If you can't copy the file across... there's a network problem that
needs sorting first.

to a laptop from my desktop:

This sounds like a networking problem. I presume you posted your
original message from your desktop PC on your home network; i.e. Windows
XP?

Yes. I originally posted from the desktop PC. Both the desktop and the
laptop use XP Pro.

Please explain briefly how the network is set up as this will help.

Cable from outside feeds into modem, which, in turn, feeds into Linksys 4
port, wireless router. Desktop is connected via CAT5 cable to router.
Laptop can be connected to router either via CAT5 cable or Dell Truemobile
wireless card. I almost always use the wireless card.

Also, where is thebat.exe located; i.e the installer?

Thebat.exe is located in The Bat subdirectoy of the program directory. (I
think!) I will try your suggestions, but, unfortunately, it will have to
wait as the desktop is fully dismantled due to a flood in our basement
office and it (the desktop) does not have wireless capability. I expect
the desktop to be back up and running in about two weeks. In the meantime,
I can access TBUDL through other channels.

The file in the program directory isn't the installer. You will probably
have to download that again...
http://www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/the_bat_o.exe (unless you want
to upgrade to version 2.)

Since your laptop has direct access to the Internet via your router you
may as well download it to your laptop's desktop and install from there.

PO Are you sure? I've been using shares with spaces in their name for
PO years.

Yes, I think so... the shared folder may be called 'Shared Documents' on
your PC but the share would have to be named 'SharedDocs' of whatever
with no spaces. However, folders in the share can have spaces; e.g.
\\SME\mp3\Rush\Rush - A Farewell To Kings.

This follows the uniform naming convection (UNC).

PO Have a look at http://ouwehand.net/~thebat/w2k-shares/

Then your shares would not be accessible universally. Windows XP warns
you if you include a space in the share name; for example you wouldn't
be able to access these shares from DOS. I think you'll find it's the
same for URI; you shouldn't include spaces in network resources.

How do you enter space as shortcut key?

Highlight the one you want to change and press space. Works for me.
