Problem restoring attachments

Hi!

I made an export of my mailboxes. (My hard disk made problems)
Now I have installed The Bat! on a new hard disk. But when I try to restore

Is there a chance to rescue at least some of them?

The problem is how not to sort the message list, since you cannot (as far
as I can see) set no sorting.

The solution (which I can't claim credit for) is to sort by some field
which has the same value for all messages. Flagging might do, or
attachments, priority or unread messages. If nothing else works, display
the folder and sort on that.

Re[2]: Slow startup for TB! 2.12?

2004-07-20 Thread 9Val
Hello Robin,

RA I also continue to experience message lists that are blank when the
RA folder is selected. It only occurs within a short period of time after TB!
RA has been started (say the first 5 mins) but it has happened that a folder
RA will display the contents initially, but when I move away from it and
RA back again, the message list becomes blank.

RA This is not a case of viewing a subset of messages - I have tried going
RA to the View menu and selecting different options under Display to try to
RA refresh the display, but that has no effect. The only solution I have
RA found is simply waiting until the messages appear in the list again. This
RA may take anywhere from 10 secs to a couple of minutes.
Do you use IMAP or POP3 account?

I switched to TB from Netscape Messenger, for just one reason: to work
with all accounts (in/out) *at once*. I had several accounts and had to
constantly switch between profiles to accomplish sending/receiving my
mail. It meant much more time spent on-line, on a very bad connection,
if we disregard all other inconveniences. I complained to a friend and
he told me about TB. I was so happy that I could do what I wanted, that
I accepted all collateral effects, cooly. (: All the rest of various
features I see as a bonus sort of, whether they are essentially useful
to me or not so much.

And it was not easy to me to manage with a totally new and strange

Oh well, just as long as they don't forget us along the way.

Market is often a cruel and merciless environment, especially for those
who have no a strict and clear goal, and who are prone to hesitate
excessively, and above all, for those who tend to please audience
which is not their own.

Personally, I do not feel, nor think, that the market has to be pleased
by any price, even if this would mean more money for me. Something in
quality of my life changes then, and if I put on a steelyard the both,
somehow am more prone to choose *my life*. (-: I could bearably easily
live with less money, but would hardly live that bearably with less of

trying to analyze a bit the situation. Thinking aloud... In this hot
afternoon... again is 36C... here... tropical ..it... (: Going for a

The truth IMO is they need you and others on this list and other
related lists in order to provide a good product. You'll all part of
the team ... be it advertising (via word of mouth or other means),
providing wish list items, testing, etc.

I am convinced that they get a best possible feedback via these several
TB lists. They really are a great source of reversal informations and
new ideas, or just ideas, and all these users should probably be
treated as associates. (-;

2 TB! entries in Add/Remove programs list

2004-07-20 Thread Christopher Brown
Hi List,

I was in the process of uninstalling a program, and I noticed that there are 2 entries
in my installed programs list for The Bat!. The first uses the TB icon, and the
second uses a normal-looking windows folder icon. They are both listed as having the
same size. The entry with the TB icon has a single button, saying change/remove, and
the second entry has two buttons, one (enabled) saying change the other (disabled)
saying remove. I cautiously clicked the change button, and I got a setup wizard
offering to modify, repair or remove TB from my system. I cancelled.

Why two entries? I remember installing a beta a while back, that used the msi
installation program, perhaps this is the culprit? If I uninstall one or the other, I
reckon (backups aside) I'm done for?

Smileys - How Are They Viewed By Non Bat Mail Programs

There is no second icon on my system.

I noticed that programs on the uninstall list have last accessed dates
given. If the second icon's date is older than the first's, you might
want to consider:

 1. Run TheBat! and back up EVERYTHING.

 2. Close TheBat!

 3. Uninstall the second (i.e. Windows folder icon)

 4. Run TheBat! again.

4a. if TheBat! doesn't run, reinstall TheBat!. When asked,
give the path to your backup file to the installation
process.

(Another possibility: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

For the most part, they'll see the word grin with :: around it.

However, someone with an IM client could most likely load the .MSL

Add sender to addressbook function problem

2004-07-20 Thread Zonnet
Hi Bat Users,

I use this function (Ctrl-W) often to place people sending me email in a
address book for filtering purposes.

I have recently had the problem that sometimes after adding the name to
a selected address book a pop-up appears asking if it should add the
others to the same address book.

It looks like I selected multiple email whereas I only selected one with
one sender.

When I select no, the address book selection window appears with, what looks
to me like the exact same data I just entered and even the address book
selected I just entered.

To me it looks like TB! is trying to enter the same data twice.

Can someone please see if they can reproduce this problem?

I just did it with your message and got 2 AB windows, one for your email
address, the other for the TBUDL address, so basically you got a window
for the TO: entry and one for the FROM entry, since neither was your

TB expects the number 354 in front of that text. The server probably
gives that signal, since it wouldn't work any other way with any other
client. The fact that you don't always get those signals point to the
possiblities of you having a bad connection with your ISP or that
you're running an smtp proxy that's a tad out of sync with the

Below are the instructions to get smileys working properly on your
system.

Assumptions:

- Your installation of The Bat! is in C:\Program Files\The Bat!
- Any folders referenced in this how-to are subfolders of the above.
- There is no need to close The Bat! while you perform these steps.

Let's start with a clean installation of smileys.

1. Delete *everything* in the IMAGES folder *except* Default.MSL and
   the folder named DEFAULT.

2. Download the following files:

   http://www.PCWize.com/thebat/smileys/rogues.zip

   and

   http://www.PCWize.com/thebat/pcwsmileys/pcwsmileys.zip

3. Unzip both PCWSmileys.ZIP and Rogues.ZIP into the IMAGES folder.

4. You should now have the following files in the IMAGES folder:

   default.msl
   pcwsmileys.msl
   rogues.msl

   and the following folders:

   default
   pcwimages
   rogues

   *And nothing else!*

5. From within The Bat!, hold down the following keys CTRL-ALT-SHIFT,
press the letter 'T' (without quotes), and let go of all the keys.
You may see this key combination referred to on the lists as
   C-A-S-T.

This forces a reload of all the .MSL files.

6. Locate a message that you know has smileys in it. Everything should
   be working now.

2.12: Lost Address Book

2004-07-20 Thread Joseph N.
Following the familiar directions on the Ritlabs home page, I installed version 2.12

There is still a large .abd file in the directory of the account with administrator

program directory. How can I point TB! to the right location, or otherwise fix this

1) Open the TB address book.
2) Use File | Open from the AB menu to select the address book.
3) Close the TB Address book
4) Go to account properties
5) Associate that address book with that account.

It should be fairly straight forward.

Steps 4 and 5 may not be necessary.

 F8
 just to load the AB-program

If you can't trace a .ini file that loads the correct set of AB's

Suppressing HTML Warning Message

2004-07-20 Thread Rick Friedman
If I open an HTML attachment (or HTML mail that The Bat! has put into
an attachment), I receive a warning message indicating it can be
unsafe to view such a file.

I understand this and don't need to see this warning each time. In
fact, I'm asking this more out of curiosity rather than actually
planning to do this. I know if I double-click on the attachment while
holding down the Shift key, the message does not appear.

I'd like to know if there is a way to configure The Bat! to
permanently suppress this warning message?

Go here with your picture and Create a New Account.
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/ Then follow the directions for
downloading the Rogues and Smileys and unzipping to your Bat\Images.
There may be a short lag in the time when your picture appears while
your rogue is checked out by the administrator, but in the meantime,
you'll be able to see everyone else. Oh! Be sure you're running The

Microsoft Exchange Connectivity

2004-07-20 Thread Terry Frazier
I posted this question to the TBTech list a few days ago, but there
doesn't seem to be any activity there.

Has there been any discussion or user stories on the Microsoft
Exchange Connectivity feature of v2.0?

I have looked for some time for a group calendaring solution and
am considering putting an Exchange Server-type solution in place for
that reason, and moving to Outlook for calendaring and PalmOS synching. But
I do not want to move away from TB! as my mail client.

Can anyone point me to success stories on using TB! in concert with
Outlook/Exchange? TIA.

Having trouble setting up acount

2004-07-20 Thread Jack
Hello,

I have an online web site and I want to use TB to send receive email
instead of webmail. I've created an account specifically for this but
cannot get it to work the way the host suggests. If I use my personal
ISP servers for sending and receiving mail, then it works. But they
suggested I use their server. They said in order to do so I would
need an encrypted SSL connection and that I would need to use port
465.

I find that if I set the SMTP connection to Secure to dedicated
port (TLS), it uses port 465. But if I create a message and press
send, the message window closes like it was sent, then reopens after
about four seconds with no indication of what happened. Does anyone
know what is causing this?

Does it matter if I use their server or mine? My only concern is that
if I send a message to a customer, they will be able to see my
personal email in the header. I want this to be hidden so that all
correspondence goes to the sites address. Is there a way to
accomplish this or should I just stick with using webmail?

Just create an account with the right addresses and configure it to
