can't start 3.5.26

2005-06-20 Thread Paul A. Thiessen
Just downloaded and installed 3.5.26 (over 3.5.25). However, when I try to
start it from my non-admin WinXP account, I get the initial splash image,
but then the CPU pegs at 100% and nothing else happens. Any ideas how to
fix this? Works fine from my administrative account on the same machine,
something to do with permissions?

In the meantime, does anybody know where I could get an installer for
3.5.25, so I can go back to that and at least be able to read mail on that
computer?

Thanks!

Groups, works, but the underlined, bold, and the italic doesn’t work anymore

OK, my bad. I have checked and it was the All Mail view and not
the Inbox I was looking at. The messages showed in the sent mail
folder but the incoming copy failed to show in the Inbox.

I dislike reading at the GMail website since I don't like
threaded mail but it must please more people than displease them
because it doesn't offer an option to read chronologically.

I do like threaded mail if the threads are genuine. But Gmail
makes the same mess of it as Outlook Express, adding new messages
to completely unrelated conversations with the same subject line

Could filters not be written for that?

Me neither.

 Sensible.

Last year, with nothing at all showing in my Account/Folder
Tree/Outbox, a really old message of mine from months previous began
posting itself randomly but periodically to the list. Annoyed and
perplexed many of us (including me) for some time.

Turned out that my TB! Temps file was not emptying normally and
somehow that made TB! both save a ghost of this old message and send
it out from time to time.

Doing a manual emptying of the Temps file stopped the unwanted
behavior. At the time, I still knew so little of how things work that
I didn't realize TB! had a Temps file.

Anyway, just thought I'd recount the experience, in case it will help
someone in the future, who may be reading this thread.

No, drafts in TB are just parked messages in the Outbox.

And parking the message in the outbox (rather than just saving

right?

Well, no, although you might make something similar yourself. I have
such ones named Temp(s) usually, for each account/'group'.

This might be even better, if you deal with lots of mail, so you can
have more than one Draft folder per account.

Of course then, when you want to edit a message, you have to move it to
Outbox manually, and then to the Temp folder again, and once when you
are finally finished, you have to again move the messages to Outbox
manually, in order to fling them around, treating the world to/with the
beauty. Lots of hand j...no, hand work, well.

And, if you do have to do something manually, it means that it cannot be
done automatically, so the chances to screw some things up are much
lesser.

  ***

The last paragraph is the point. Take it please.

///

Actually, it's just enough to _take care_ whether a message (in Outbox)
is parked or not.

In my case, recently, I found several of them (the wildly sent ones)
still interesting, for various reasons, although outdated, and had
unparked them in order to move them in other folder, and perhaps later
to decide what to do with them. But, shortly in the mean time I wanted
to check for a new mail, and instead Alt+F2, I pushed F11
(send-receive-all). Oops! (-:

Ergo, TB is not guilty (for not having a Draft folder; it is quite
finely solved by park/unpark function).

You don't have to unpark messages before moving them. Just move
them. TB! will ask: Do you want to MOVE parked messages as
well? You must then click Yes.

Yes, that's right. Just export a UNIX Mailbox and move this file into your
profile folder of Thunderbird just beside all other folders.
The profile folder normaly is located in %appdata%.

Upon restarting Thunderbird, you'll see the mailbox and can move your mails

TB Thunderbird appears to only import from Netscape Communicator,
TB Eudora, Outllok or Outlook Express

Thunderbird keeps email in so called UNIX mailbox format. For each folder
Thunderbird has that mailbox, folder name in Thunderbird is the same as
filename of that mailbox on your HDD

Therefore you should export messages from The Bat! to UNIX mailbox and then
simply copy created file into Thunderbird mail directory.

For example:
1) Create in Thunderbird folder called import_from_the_bat, close
Thunderbird.
2) in The Bat! select messages you want to export and then Tools/Export
messages to/UNIX mailbox, save mailbox as import_from_the_bat
3) Locate Thunderbird mailbox file import_from_the_bat. It should be in one
of Application Data\Thunderbird subdirectories and copy over file created by
The Bat!

That's it :)
