lost config

2022-11-23 Thread Joe
Hello,

I just installed 10.3.2 over 9.3.01 and my configuration is gone. It found my
accounts but all my configuration and messages are gone.
I have been using TheBat since 2010. Every update was painless. However, this
one was not painless.
I was able to restore version 9 with a backup I had, but do not want to install
10 again (which I just paid for) until I can be sure it will install and
capture all my messages and configuration.
Any suggestions on what I did wrong or what the issue is? Anyone else have
this issue.

2021-01-26 Thread Joe
Hello ,
I just noticed a "target" looking icon. It looks like a red, yellow and
green target. Nothing happens when I click, left or right, or double.
I can drag it anywhere on the desktop. It will stay where I put it. It goes
away when I minimize thebat and comes back when I open thebat.
  See attached snippit/
Any ideas?

pop up

2014-02-21 Thread Joe
Hello,
This just started happening in the last few weeks. Not sure what changed.
I click on an email from the list to view it in the bottom pane. Sometimes,
not always, I see a quick pop up. It goes away so fast that I can't see waht
it is, but it looks like it is related to the mail I just clicked on. Is
TheBat letting mail with javascript pop up a browser window? Any ideas on how
I can trap this to see what is causing it or can I configure TheBat to not
allow pop ups..

I am running TheBat Pro 5.3.10.

Notes on emails...

2009-05-19 Thread Joe User
Hello,

I am using the latest version of The Bat! on XP. I wonder if there is
a way to write a note to attach to an email that only I can see. For
example I could mouse over or something and see This email needs to
be replied to day after tomorrow. Like a 3M Sticky note, in purpose
anyway. I tried searching for note in the help and was overwhelmed
with hits from all the mentions of note: throughout the help files.

I use flags and message parking and will check out color groups.

I am new to The Bat! I am a convert from Mozilla. I did some

complicated filters, yet it is over my head.

Therefore, I am coming to this list for help. I would like to filter

  For example:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  etc...

What would be the correct syntax for this?

  Thanks in advance.

Wow, thanks for the great information, Perry! All I can say is, it's too

But you've made me change direction, that's for sure. There's no way I want

I can live with this one party not being able to receive mail from me from
The Bat. I can use webmail, Google Mail, etc. I also talked with a friend
at the company, and she told me that they were having a few propblems with
their e-mail, but she wasn't sure what they were. Some intra-company mail
was getting bounced, too. So maybe this will be a one-off situation, or it
will heal thyself over time, and I won't need to speak with anyone in
Manila, etc.

If I get another e-mail bounced by someone else, I'll try your track. Maybe

Yep, they are classifying the IP listed in the error you received as a
spammer friendly IP address. If you're not running your own SMTP,
then this is most likely the IP address for your ISP SMTP server.

Okay. That's what others think, too.

No, it is not your IP address. Even if it was, you said you are not

The IP is for one of Bellsouth's servers. If you go to www.dnsstuff.com

imf18aec.mail.bellsouth.net host, and if you enter the IP in the Spam

(highlighted in red) that the IP (or host) is blacklisted by SORBS. This
this is the reason your email is being rejected. You should talk to
Bellsouth.

Per what I said above, what do you think they'll say? Or offer to do? Is
there nothing to be gained by contacting SORBS, et al?

Yep.. Try putting your IP address in at:
http://relays.osirusoft.com/cgi-bin/rbcheck.cgi?addr

It's listed in at least three. Someone could have been faking the IP
address they came from (IP spoofing), they could have been there for a
while (in the RBL lists) but the mail administrators only recently
started using DNSbl lists on your recipients end. etc.. Could be a lot
of reasons.

I got 4 (I think), but one was purported to be out of business. Does that

If that's all true, how do I get myself off those lists??? I'm no spammer.
I HATE SPAMMERS! I send out a few e-mails a week, containing mostly jokes,
to several dozen friends (who also send me the same kind of stuff), and the
names are all BCC'd. Could that be what these lists are picking up?
There's no way that any of these people would report me to anyone, even if
they knew whom to report me to, which I can guarantee you they do not.

Are you sure they are (whoever in fact they are) not picking up
The Bat as a reputed spam *program*?

1. The error is specifically related to IP, not to MUA (Mail User
Agent).

Okay.

2. You yourself state you aren't using the X-mailer header. I don't

see the X-mailer header in the messages you sent to the list, so
there's no way for the recipient to determine you're using The Bat.
They might label you a spammer because you don't have an X-mailer
header, but that isn't the case here.

That's probably because I'm sending this message to tbudl from Google Mail,
not from The Bat. That's who I use for sending/receiving (and storing!)
all my tbudl messages.

I've been able to send messages to this domain (and vice versa) as
recently as last week, and had no problems whatsoever.

Like I said, the mail admins for the recipients might have just
started using DNSbl. It happens all the time. We have a system here at
work called CityWatch which send out mass e-mail in case of emergency.
In the past few months we've started getting more and more rejections
(mainly for a bad reverse lookup).

What exactly is a bad reverse lookup? And what were you able to do about
being DE-listed?

Thanks for the help!

Is The Bat spying on me?

2006-06-28 Thread Joe

I recently purchased a new computer. After installing Trend Micro Systems
Anti-Spyware program, and running a full system scan, it was recommended (by
the progam) that I delete certain high-risk programs that were detected on
my hard drive.

Upon agreeing to the deletions (there were about 6, I think), The Bat would
no longer open.

I went back and restored all the programs, and The Bat miraculously began
to function normally again. I repeated this process several times, just to
make sure, then I narrowed it down to just one program that was doing the
damage.

It was named Spyware_Trak_PWStealer.

So my question is, why does The Bat have to spy on me?

A false positive normally connotes imprecise calibration. What's imprecise
here?

The details on the culprit (found in the Registry) read:

HKU\S-1-5-21-3126995848-1559877500-2177672217-1005-SOFTWARE\RIT\THEBAT!\

Why would Trend mistake only The Bat! (out of all the other programs on my
computer) as spyware?

I've added this item to the Trend whitelist, and The Bat! runs just fine
now.

However, I'm still uncomfortable with the idea that The Bat! may be spying
on me.

Could someone please try to do a better job of comforting me?

Maybe it's not Trend's problem?

Couldn't it be something that The Bat! is doing, that it shouldn't be doing?

A false positive does not mean that at all. False as in wrong, bad
or incorrect. Positive as in passed test or (in this case)
detection. It is an incorrect detection. Trend has fouled up. Badly.
In the real world Trend would be sued for defamation, but in the soft
world there is no such thing. A shame. (Not quite where you got
imprecise calibration as a definition there).

I'm a molecular biologist. For example, when you falsely test positive for
a certain virus, it's usually because of the way the test (e.g., ELISA,
Western Blot, etc.) was calibrated.

It's apparently a bad analogy to my problem.

J The details on the culprit (found in the Registry) read:

J
HKU\S-1-5-21-3126995848-1559877500-2177672217-1005-SOFTWARE\RIT\THEBAT!\

Perfect. The registry key TB uses for its own private GUID. Why on
earth should Trend take any notice? The only spying going on here is
by Trend. Having and using a registry key for configuration and setup
data is certainly no indication of malware. Yes, some malware uses the
registry. So does a lot of other (probably most) software. Some joker
has told trend that this registry key is an indication of malware
infection. Tosh.

I'll contact Trend tomorrow and see what they have to say.

J However, I'm still uncomfortable with the idea that The Bat! may be

J spying on me.

Your discomfort is entirely unnecessary. The Bat! does not spy. Never
has. Never will. Nor does The Bat! collaborate with spies and goes
out of its way to ensure it never will. Trend has alarmed you for no
reason whatsoever.

Okay. Thanks for the feedback.

I hope that you are suitably reassured by this. I do recommend that

you now contact Trend and make twice the amount of noise there as you
have here, since the fault is all theirs. You can even copy the text
of this message to them if you feel it may help. At least their
support service is getting paid to offer advice, unlike us poor souls
here!

I didn't know that my voicing of my concern here (with just *one* post)
would be considered noise.

Anyone else seeing the sort of Mem Usage growth that I'm seeing here?

I'm using no plug-ins at all but am using IMAP, of course.

Confirmed here. Starts at about 27meg. Running for two days it is now at 172

Could this be normal? Maybe we need to let it run for a week to see if it

Hello,
I am running the latest released version of TB. I am still getting AV's all over

understand. If they want feedback, they need to ask me what it is they want. I can
give them whatever they want. the just need to ask. I know a lot of people are using
TB with no problems, but this AV is driving me crazy. Anyone else getting AV's. I
can recreate this problem at will. All I have to do is open the Maintenance Manager

exception on startup

2004-10-04 Thread Joe
Hello,

Using 3.0.0.8. I can't get any release above this to start. Keep getting exceptions
on startup. Does not get past the splash screen. I created a bug and was told this
was fixed in Bayesit. I am not using that version, I am using bayes filter.
I was also instructed to remove all plugins from my tbplugin.ini file. I did.. Still
no help.
All versions from 3.0.0.8 down work OK. All version above 3.0.0.8 do not, even the
RC1.
Any ideas what changes between 3.0.0.8 and the next releases are causing this? Since
a lot of people are running these later versions with no problems, is it possible
something in my configuration is causing the problem? Any ideas what it might be or
steps I can take to help isolate the problem? Thanks...

I meant to search in headers (not in subject) for the condition
Subject:\s*\n and that won't be triggered by your example.
Of course it would be triggered by something like this:
Subject: Why do we use the header Subject:
But when you've got a contact who is so clueless that he uses no From:
header (remember our first condition) and ends his subject with a
colon, then he deserves no better than being caught by your
 spamfilter. ;-)

I know this is most likely not the best way to do this, but this filter worked for
me...

Sender contains none of @
AND Recipient contains none of @
AND Subject contains none of a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

This works OK... might be better to us a regular expression in the Subject to get all
upper and lower case and special chars.

 No.

I don't have any experience with v2, however, I will say that V3 is not stable, at
lease for me. I have tried to install the latest betas 1, 14, 15 and all crash on

You can place your filter at your preferred position by selecting the

Yes, this works great to move the complete filter up or down the list
of filters. I want to rearrange the filter itself. For example: I
have a filter that has a block. In that block is an AND and an OR.
I want to move the OR up before the block and maybe insert another OR. I have to
delete the

frequency is much less, maybe once a day now.
I have sent many other requests for service and have yet to receive a

My biggest problem is I have paid for the software and have not
received the serial/registration number yet, so since I love theBat,

expire and I will not have my registration number in time and lose

Hello Zeynel,

The spam score settings seems useless for BayesIt, I've never seen a
 75 scored message, too.

Did you feed BayesIt with many of junk and non-junk mails by
 classifying them?

How do I do that. Where is the documentation for Version 3 of TheBat
using version 0.06.00 of bayesit that explains how to do this.
I have a folder with thousands of real junk.
How do I clear out bayesit and start it from scratch using these
e-mails?
  Thanks

TB 2.03.06 destroying inmail folders

2004-01-18 Thread Joe Rotello
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: TB 2.03.06 destroying inmail folders

Hello all.

I agree 102% although it did it once, once was enough.

After updating to TB 2.03.06, it read in all the EMail accounts I use under it -- five
at this stage -- and as I went to Compress the most vital one, that had about 145
messages archived in it from last tear, an account that has since been closed -- TB
promptly destroyed that EMail folder / account EMail database totally.

I can see the headers, but nothing else works.

Looking at the actual destroyed EMail file, I can see that all the EMail is there,
but I can't see it to save
individual messages, can't TB read any of it, can't TB export it, can't TB export any
part of it. Looking at the file with ANOTHER PC on my LAN, that has an older TB
version, it too can't do anything with it, either.

So, I am left with utter destruction, although I am careful to not wipe that file, in
the hope and prayer that it can be saved yet.

What to do? That file is utterly critical, it contains vital archived EMail.

In my humble opinion, BEFORE doing any such file operations, TB should FIRST backup
said file, even as a temp file on the users HD.

THEN TB can operate on what's in memory, with, of course, the option to use / bring in
the backed-up file should anything happen to the file being TB operated on.

This is a terrible situation, and likely only until the root cause is found, but what
IF the now destroyed file can't be saved?

What am I to do?

2003-08-24 Thread Joe Claborn
Hi Ricardo,

RM Hi Ricardo:

RvE I just heard that everyone at our company is getting an Compaq iPaq
RvE 1915. Main reason of course, so we all can sync our e-mail and
RvE agenda/appointments with our laptops and so on. But I'm one of few
RvE who's not using LookOut. Does anyone know if its possible to sync
RvE with The Bat!? Plugings, third party software, what ever... The
RvE iPaq runs Windows CE.

RM I have not heard/confirmed the possibility to sync theBat! with
RM PocketPC's.

RM I have heard of the ability to sync theBat! with Palm Software (see
RM threads on 8/11 and 8/13). However, one concern for Palm Users was the
RM inability to sync to folders other than the Inbox. Given that one of
RM theBat!'s main features is filtering e-mails to folders, the inability
RM sync particular folders was a great disappointment.

(A bat newbie tries his wings) - I'm not using a Palm - but I think this
might help. If the sync to the Inbox folder will move the message from
the Palm to the Inbox folder on the PC, then you can easy re-filter
the Inbox on the PC (right click on the Inbox and select 'Re-filter
Messages' )

RM There are several other Bat! users who want/need this functionality to
RM sync theBat! mails with PocketPc's. Every so often I do a Google
RM search to see if someone has worked on this a project that would sync
RM theBat! with PocketPCs. So far, no luck. If and when I come across any
RM info, I will post it. Let us know if you come across any solutions.

How to Send w/o Confirmation Dialog Box

2. Is there a way to make the 'Edit Mail Message' window come up at a

Filtering on Date, Focus in Mailbox

work.

2. When I select a Mail Folder to see the messages in, what determines
which message get the focus? It would be nice if the first unread

Thanks again.

Received time should be rectified

2003-07-21 Thread Joe Lee
Hi TB users,

Recently I found a problem when using TB. We need to handle emails according to the
time frame. Say, I will need to reply to the emails arrive at our mail server from 9am
to 3pm, my workmate needs to reply from 3pm to 10pm. Since we are using the same mail
server, if we can divide the emails by the time when they arrive at our mail server,
that will be perfect.

Unfortunately, TB doesn't support this feature. TB won't show the time when the email
arrives at the POP3 server. There are two types of time listed in TB, Received and
Created. Personally, I don't think that Received time is necessary since it just
indicates the time when you download the emails from your POP3 server, thus, it only
depends on your frequency of fetching emails from server. And the Created time is
just the time of the sender's computer when he/she sends out the email.

What I concern most is we need a unique and precise ruler to divide the emails by time
frame(I think we can use the time when the emails reach our POP3 server 'cuz that time
is by all means the same for me and all my workmates), but apparently, TB doesn't
cover this feature. This problem exists in both the current former version v1.62r, and
the latest Beta 11 which I'm now using.

I wonder if the current Received time could be rectified to the time when the emails
arrive at the mail server. The Created time should remain.

Thanks for the great work of TB programmers. I really love TB and that's why I want it
to be the perfect.

RO server and when your shift is done let your TB logoff. That way the
RO messages that you don't download are for your colleague.

Actually there are in all five people...:(... They will all receive the emails sent to
a specific mailbox, and they handle the emails by time frame. The biggest problem is
that not all of my workmates are using TB, some are actually using OE(or Outlook),
which could display the time when the emails arrive at our mail server.

I've been trying to pursuade them to use TB, and two of the 5 are using TB now. The
others just stick to the MS client.

I really hope this problem could be fixed technically. Thanks anyway Roelof! :)

Problem with drag a msg as attachment with TB 1.63 Beta 11

2003-06-26 Thread Joe Lee
Hi pals,

I'm now using TB! v1.63 Beta/11, just noticed a problem with dragging a message into
the editor window as attachment.

If I choose the format as Plain Text(Windows), I can't drag a message directly to
the editor window as attachment, but I can surely do it while choosing Plain
Text(MicroEd).

So, is this a design flaw, or just like that it can't be fixed - can do with MicroEd
but can't with Windows?

Anticipating being instructed.

can TB convert .msg to .eml?

2003-06-14 Thread Joe Lee
Hi friends,

I got a question. When I attach an email when I compose a new email(by
drag and pull to the composing window), the attached email will be
saved as .MSG file by default. The problem is, it appears Outlook
Express can't identify .MSG files as an email, thus, can't open the
attached file as it can do with .EML files.

My question is, could TB in any way save an attached email as .EML
format instead of .MSG? I also wanna know if all the emails in TB are
.MSG format. Can all the emails(messages) be set with .EML format by

showing one less than the total(Say, there are total 6 mails there,

then hanging there for an indefinite time.

I tried delete task, also I tried abort, problem is nothing ever
happened no matter how many times I press these buttons.

So everytime it hangs, I have to end the task from the taskmanager of
Windows by my strong hand(LOL), since even when I tried to close TB,
it wouldn't lemme do that, saying the action is still active(but
apparently not, I once left my machine on for a whole afternoon, guess
what? it halted half an hour before I left, when I came back in the

what's even worse is it happened many times).

Any advice?

TF Unfortunately, you can do this only with a work-around. Don't use the
TF Known filter, but create one manually that sends the mail to your

PM I guess it works the other way around, as I found no option to filter on

Using Sound Effectively

2002-11-19 Thread Joe Berry
I would like to do something with a sound wav file for TB notification
of new mail but I can't figure out how to do it. Most of the emails
that I get are filtered into different folders. I would like to play
a wav file if any new email ends up in the Inbox-Known folder. I
don't see a way to do that.

In addition (and I think this is not possible), I would like a sound
notification whenever I end up with new email that is left in the
inbox folder (after all filters are run). I suspect the solution to
this latter problem would be to set up a filter at the end of all
filter list that would move any remaining email to a specifically
designated folder. Then, of course, I modify that last filter to play
a sound.

Starnge HDD activity / lockup with msg deletion

2002-08-20 Thread Joe User

Has anyone noticed or heard about The Bat! causing strange activity
with the HDD when deleting messages? The client locks up for about 10
to 20 secs while the HDD is accessed per message being deleted - then
it will delete a bunch of messages at once and then lock up again
(because I mistakenly mash the delete key - thinking it will just
delete the messages).
I can perform other functions
within The Bat! client like reading mails and I can use other programs
without any trouble. It's just the client will delete the messages
very slowly / erratically and chew away at the drive. I can't figure out what might
be causing this but I have narrowed it down to The Bat! client.

AMD 1.2 Duron
512 ram
XP Pro
Dual Maxtor 40gb 7200 drives with no problems or errors.

Thanks in advance.

Problem Verifying PGP Signature of TheBat's Announcement

I'm not a heavy user of pgp so this problem may well be do to
something I'm not doing right. Until now, I have only encrypted and
decrypted messages.

At any rate, I received the notice of the new version of TheBat (v
1.61) and happened to notice that there was a pgp signature
associated
with the email. Furthermore, there was a URL to RitLab's public
encryption key (PGP key is available at
https://support.ritlabs.com/pgpkeys/office.txt). So I grabbed the
public key and imported it to my pgp keyring. I then asked TheBat to
verify the signature of the 1.61 announcement email. Pgp displayed a
message saying that the key was invalid.

Has anyone else done this? Does it work correctly for you? I tried
sending an email to myself using a pgp signature and it worked fine
(nice to know I'm still me). I will put a signature around this
email
(my public key is available at pgpkeys.mit.edu, among other places.

Thanks for any clarification or illumination on this subject,
