Re[2]: Bayesit Plugin

2004-11-20 Thread John Morse
Back when Bayesit was a addin filter that didn't come with the_bat I
had it working fine, I trained it with thousands of spam messages.
But I lost all that when I reformated recently. and I installed the
latest greatest BAT and I noticed it came with Bayesit, I choose to
let it install it and I've been training it, but I just don't work
anymore, or never did for that mater. I guess I'm going to have to
find something else, I don't know why they chose to bundle a plugin
with TheBat that would take years of training just to get it to work.

Bayesit Training (download)

2003-12-12 Thread John Morse
Hello The_Bat! Users,

I have uploaded my entire Bayesit directory, so that anyone can
download it and have the pleasure of using one of the finest spam
filters anywhere. You will not have to train it with so many emails,
like before, just download and install Bayesit from here:
http://klirik.narod.ru/usefuls/bayesiteng.htm
...then download these files
http://legacy.sheltonbbs.com/~jmmorse/Bayesit/

and then unzip them to your Application Data directory, it will
overwrite your Bayesit folder. Or you can unzip them to a temp
folder and then move them to the Documents and Settings/Application
Data folder manually. (you should already have the Bayesit folder
there since you installed Bayesit, just overwrite it)

For example mine is found at:
C:\Documents and Settings\John\Application Data\Bayesit

After downloading all 6 files, then double-click the one named
BayesIt.part01.exe When you unzip these files it will replace your
Bayesit folder in your Application Data Directory.

Here are a list of all the files (with file sizes) you will need to download:
BayesIt.part01.exe (1.4m)
BayesIt.part02.rar (1.4m)
BayesIt.part03.rar (1.4m)
BayesIt.part04.rar (1.4m)
BayesIt.part05.rar (1.4m)
BayesIt.part06.rar (583k)

Don't worry about training Bayesit with a bunch of messages, just go
through the motions, because this will replace all the training
anyway.

I never get a false positive with this plugin, and only get a new
piece of spam to my inbox only every few days.

Don't be scared, now that you have your keys created, right click on
them and right click on your key manager and choose Add|Photo so we
will be able to see what you look like (this is optional)
But anyway, you need to upload your public key to a server, do this
by
clicking on Server|send to (just choose one of the servers, I picked
the first one)
Once you do that, experiment with signing a message.
I have my HOtkeys setup (go to PGP options) so that Ctrl+Shift+E
will encrypt the message
(doesn't matter what program your working in) and Ctrl+Shift+S will
sign the message. You can also sign a message (if you have PGP
enabled
in the bats properties for your mail account) then you can sign your
message from the menu at top, choose Privacy|OpenPGP|(make your
choice)
If you want to experiment off list, you can send me practice email,
or
you can even practice sending them to yourself.
Remember you will need my Key, if you want to Encrypt something to
me,
because when you choose encrypt, then a menu will popup that will
want
you to choose a key to encrypt to.

Actually I need to withdraw this offer, as I still think that the
x-mailer header should identify what mail client is being used.
Changing The Bat to Ritlabs, still identifies the place that is making
this editor, but gets by the servers that are filtering spam on the

Yes, you can, but have you tried SpamPal?
I can honestly say I have used both!
And Popfile's stats will fool you, believe me I know, I used Popfile.
Popfile uses only Bayesian, SpamPal uses a combination of effective spam fighting
techniques.
SpamPal is still the best!

This is always the main point that Popfile users stick too.
I too (although losing many good emails) was assured by Popfile itself that it
was doing such a
good job why it kept telling me that it was doing better than 98% accuracy. LOL
I wonder how many would stay with Popfile if they done away with this most
inaccurate part of the
program?

MailFrontier.Com Reply

2003-06-30 Thread John Morse
I E-Mailed the Matador/Mailfrontier company earlier when I read the message about
their software marking the_Bat! messages as spam, here is their reply:

I'm sorry that this might be the case. Matador uses a proprietary
algorithmic content filter to score e-mails on the spam scale. If The
Bat produces e-mails that look a lot like what spammers send, then
Matador will treat the e-mail as a spam. We do offer our users the
ability to configure Matador to allow e-mails from certain people,
companies and mailing lists; and hopefully people that subscribe to
e-mails that might come from The Bat will add the appropriate settings
to allow this valuable e-mail through.

I am very disappointed to learn that your software treats all mail from
the Bat! (a professional software product from Ritlabs) as Spam.
Please make some changes in this area before all your clients realize
that they will be loosing valuable mail by using your software. thanks
for your attention in this matter.

As Martin mentioned, there is a problem with one of Windows XP update

Laurence is not the first one to encounter this problem.

That still doesn't change my original recommendation!
