RE: Licence unhappiness?
The Bat! is a great client and if you were happy enough with it to buy it then I don't think you have wasted your money. Migrated to Outlook 2003
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, Well last night I decided I would install the copy of Outlook 2003 I got with my PocketPC. I'm not really sure why I decided to I just did. After a fight with several programs I found a [free and very easy] way to import my mail from The Bat! To Outlook while keeping the full folder structure. For those who might be interested here is how I did it... 1. Created a folder on my desktop called TBMAIL and mirror my folder setup in TB! in this folder. This was the longest task however as I have a very simple folder layout (why have a complex one with such a powerful search system in TB! ?) it was pretty easy to do. For those interested in how I store my mail I will put a little bit of info about it at the bottom of this post. 2. I then went into each folder in TB! and selected all of the mail in the folder (Ctrl+A) then selected Tools - Export Messages - Message Files (.EML) and selected the appropriate folder to export them to. I did this for each folder including Sent Items, Trash, etc. 3. Loaded Outlook Express and again created the folder structure in there (again this was annoying but not awful as I have a simple folder setup. 4. I then selected all of the mail in each folder in Explorer and just dragged them into the appropriate folder in Outlook Express. They automatically import keeping all of the correct settings (date, etc.). I did this for each folder. 5. Loaded Outlook 2003 and selected to import mail fom Outlook Express and everything was imported without a single lost mail :) If you have a lot of folders this will take a while. As I have said already my folder setup was very simple. All I do is have a root folder for each year and then sub-folders for each month (January, February, etc.). Then if an email arrives in September I just move it to the September folder. Pretty simple and very, very, very easy and fast to find what I am looking for. I use colour groups to label email however I never used it all that much so not having this option in Outlook should not be an issue (for me at least). The only issue I have found with Outlook 2003 is that I can't order the folders how I want. It automatically sorts them alphabetically which is a little annoying but easy to get around by putting the month's number from 01 to 12 at the start. So I have managed to successfully migrate from TB! to Outlook 2003! I hope anyone else planning on doing the same has such an easy job as I did. In all it took me 7 minutes to create all the folders and import the e-mail into Outlook Express and then Outlook 2003. As I said if you have a very complex folder setup it will take longer but it isn't an impossible task and it shouldn't take you more than an hour no matter how complex your setup is. Hope this post helps some people. I know I said I was going to stick with TB! But I thought why spend money when I have Outlook 2003 just sitting there? Also I like the way I can sync my e-mail with my PocketPC now rather than have to download them in Pocket Outlook as well as TB! and then using the mail on server feature to remove the messages manually. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly. Thanks to all on this DL for all of the help you have given me while I have been a member of TBUDL which has been a long time even though I have been on and off the DL a few times. Cheers and all the best in the future to Ritlabs. I hope that in the future I will use TB! again, perhaps at version 4 (so September 2005 yeah ;) ) - -- Morgan Pugh E: [EMAIL PROTECTED] W: http://www.mpugh.co.uk PGP Key @ http://mpugh.co.uk/pgp.asc -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: PGP 8.1 Comment: Key at http://www.mpugh.co.uk/pgp.asc iQIVAwUBQTd0Yyz7FTt7FlahAQLvHg/9E0aHXKkZ1hgLrO5QRaFr0GW+eN2sqHDK FO46LtWy+CIJqakUNIBf/WK3S/YGx7y6jtCVKAO5CGTT4IKOZ/A5WAeKFE0RQeFD R2EVF3LxjoV5TrqYYDrrmvVTx7OR9HYPlO5Z+qzFGpSlZDRhLH8FicMv/1jWEW63 aXAQmVJfFEB1TQi+0OeR+eLWosNx6d79/kAUjo+xBf9B11JDDnbjmapl4D9Q8Rf5 7gCUQaSpemu7KgjHsmea1yTpVMgfw5C06xBF6+6Pwy0fcCYsca3wNod0jSOP8lxf YgAd1IunR522mS8DND6kFAUhlPhmOFDTERAcJKg+919llbhArldBRuLztbeoNiMI YVa5vA0JCKnRAkebIkCanCl3iut5IGrVkP8rnH/ALaUYVSvKq4DwjAa477R5S8tR VSdFpgdM9nOUl7uAhf5qm5JSB+GG+vzaJmTljECwkfWAzsRPR17JUyJyXaC+2rDU 5iM5sOGNcKJof9TABYDCHWGS48cU/UT9j7A2hHtERgOIW9UYchLc8VcYBzKzuads rKuijD1euJNpuvF/OIdksT5lFJze/xPT9EyM+DDb8LVHI7yuoX/FMV8D1CXAYPPk vyvUcfW89BC/a1sutaag4d17cPpRe+To8nBfDrjpdSNqy6+lykcVGvJpsis3unDr lGnFYqJaLe8= =+D19 -END PGP SIGNATURE- Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Version3 ?!
Hi TBUDL, I woke up this morning to see an e-mail from Ritlabs saying version 3 of TB! is available. I am a little shocked at this. It took them several years to make TB!2 and now about 1 year after TB!2 was released they release TB!3. I can't really see any major differences between TB!2 and TB!3 to be honest. Also I can't find any information on what is different between TB!3 Home and TB!3 Pro other than a few MB in the filesize. I bought both V1 and V2 and I don't think that anything added in V3 warrants it being a major upgrade from V2. Perhaps the problem was how Ritlabs announced this? I think they should have put an announcement on there site for the past month or so, then it wouldn't be such a big shock. Also they should have called 2.13 beta the 3.0 beta to avoid confusion. Also Ritlabs really need to improve there support. The e-mail address they supply with TB! ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) has never worked for me since V1 yet they still use it as the official contact from in the program. It isn't all that hard to have decent support. Change of heart
Hi The Bat! User DL, Well I just installed every e-mail I could find and have spent the past 5 hours testing them all out. I have not found one that is as good as TB! I have also been talking to a friend of mine who is currently using a trial copy TB! after I told him to give it a try and he said something which really made me think. What he said was why am I complaining about £20 (or so) when TB! is such a good client? I could spend £100 (approx.) on Outlook, or spend £20 or so on a lesser client. Yes Ritlabs were idiots in how they handled this but instead of having a go at them and all of us throwing our toys out of the pram. We need to explain to Ritlabs what upset us so that they can better deal with things in the future. Therefore I have made the radical decision to buy TB!3. I would rather pay for a product I love that buy another product just because of some poor communication from Ritlabs. I hope that what I have said makes sense to others as well. I am glad my friend is such a logical thinker :) The 50% discount isn't all that bad, more than most companies offer (most companies offer 20-30% if you look around). The Bat! 2.12.00 and Exchange 2000 Server (e-mail and address book)

Setting up e-mail was very easy which I was happy about however I had some issues with the global address book. This is why I am posting this :) I tried searching Google however it didn't turn up much which was a shame. The problem I was having was that I could not get a complete listing from the server. I worked out that if I searched for somebody e.g. 'Pugh, Morgan' w/o the quotes it would find me no problem however it would not automatically download the whole address book which was what I wanted. Does anyone know if it is possible to download the whole address book and then just every now and then do a sync or something similar? I would love to be able to use TB! at work as well as at home (more money for RitLabs as well!). Is the problem just that TB! only supports LDAP and not the Exchange Address Book system? That seems a little strange as, IIRC, the Exchange address book uses MAPI also. Has anyone else managed to get the whole address book from an exchange server in TB! ?
