Fookes' Mailbag Assistant and TB!

2008-07-28 Thread The Janitor
28 July 2008 - 07:22

Hello all,

I've just installed Fookes' Mailbag Assistant (MA) and I've got a couple
of basic questions already. I did use it years ago when I only had
one TB! account but now I've got twenty.

My TB! mail directory is X\DOCS\The Bat! to which I pointed
MA during the initial set-up wizard. I chose to 'open all mailboxes'
and included 'all subfolders', did not use any filters; in effect, I
wanted to include the whole message base.

MA told me that no messages were found! I then tried pointing to just
one account (X\DOCS\The Bat!\Account1) . Same result.

Which folder do I select to tell MA to include all messages (if
possible) or one account's messages otherwise?

GL ~~~

GL I'm using a very old version of TB but the latest version of MBA and I
GL have to navigate to and open the TBB file for each folder. The All
GL Mailboxes option in the Open Mailbox dialog of MBA is just to let you
GL choose which mailbox type (e.g. Outlook, TB, Mozilla) to open and for
GL The Bat! each TBB or MSB file is a mailbox.

Thanks for the prompt response, Geoff.

It must be this hot weather but I'm bugg**ed if I (or MBA) can find a
TBB or MSB file.

Each account's folder has a series of folders named e.g. FBA0C14C.DBF
which contain files called MESSAGES.EBB and .EBI. These are followed
by files named ACCOUNT.something e.g. .EFB. All the accounts' folders
contain something similar.

This morning I also installed MBA in my office where I use Thunderbird
and I had no problems at all! I made the same choices in the wizard
(obviously the paths were different) so I'm mystified.

It took about twenty minutes And I found the instructions

I've used NOD for about five years, never been infected (I know I

PopFile - last account 'hangs'

2005-09-06 Thread The Janitor
06 September 2005 - 21:43

Hello Tbudl,

I've just installed/configured PopFile for ten accounts

It's already beginning to do its job. However, intermittantly, TB!
'hangs' when trying to connect to the last account (in the tree list)
for downloading new mail.

I've changed the order in the tree list but it's always the last
account that hangs

The connection centre won't let me 'delete task' or 'abort all either.

All the accounts are with the same web host (but on different domains
and servers) so it's conceivable that there *is* a problem at that end
but their status page shows that all is well.

The only way I can shut down TB! is ctrl/alt/del.

Has anyone seen this before?

I know it's only one example of your need to keep a large db of messages but
why not just keep a single text file of registration keys and add to it with
each new product?

Agreed.

rg This method (if I understand) means you cannot use both computers at

Isn't the requirement to use, for example, the office PC while in the office
then go on the road with the laptop, access your mail, then return to the
office?

This means that

rg it has to be one or the other then sync, then repeat.

Yes.

Here (on the desktop PC) I've got all TB! data in a folder in a different
partition from the installed program - Options/Preferences/System/Mail
Directory/mybatdata.

If you had a similar set-up on a laptop you could use either machine to process
your mail (including deleting it from the server) and then when you are back in
the office you could synchronise both folders -
http://www.centered.com/secondcopy/how.html

Both support lan and removable drives.

I can't see why this wouldn't work, there's nothing special about TB! folders
and files, is there?

Hello Avi

scc This won't work. A major reason for setting up TB on both the laptop as
scc well as well as the PC is to allow us to use the laptop to check mail
scc while in other parts of our house, without having to go to the basement
scc (dungeon) office.

You could use either machine and then synchronise the folders using something
like Sync Back (http://allwaysync.com/?g=c), free, or Second Copy
(http://www.centered.com/), not free.

Second Copy is in my top three pieces of PC software I've ever used.

Inbox known - missing from random account

2005-07-31 Thread The Janitor
31 July 2005 - 14:58

Hello Tbudl,

I stopped using TB! just over a year ago (I can't remember why) but a couple of
days ago saw the error of my ways and bought and installed the latest version.

It was like slipping into an old leather jacket; everything fitted perfectly! I
bought Bloomba, then somebody else did; I persevered with Poco. What a waste of
a year.

Now, I've just gone through my ten accounts and activated the 'inbox - known'
filter but on one of those accounts (the third to be stet up) it was missing.
Not a great problem - I just created it, but does anyone know what might have
happened to it? None of the accounts has any other filters in place.

Re: TB hanging while receiving messages from POP3 server

2004-07-05 Thread The Janitor
Jim

If I could just kill it, the problem would not be so severe, but when I
try to exit TB, I get a popup telling me tasks are still active, and do
I want to exit when they finish. Whether I click YES, NO or ABORT, the
popup goes away, and TB does not exit. I cannot start new processes,
like the Task Manager. If task manager is already open, and I try to
End Task on TB, the task manager hangs. If I try to LogOff or shut down
Windows, I get the same popup as if I tried to exit TB.

The only solution I have found is the reset button. I cannot afford to
do that to my system 3-4 times per day.

I'm getting exactly the same symptoms here.

Or do I need to try again to find a replacement...

As much as it hurts to say this, I'm doing just that. I've been using TB! for about
four years and am getting disillusioned with the way development is going. I don't
need the more esoteric features of TB! but I *do* need stability. There is always that
nagging doubt about whether my message base will be there when 'switch on'.
