[…] The old HP laptop is running Win 7 and the new ASUS is loaded
with Win 8 or 8.1. Not sure which. […] The last answer to Mike's
question was the one posted by Thomas Fernandez where Thomas states
that backing up TB to a safe place, loading the installer on the new
machine and then when run, apparently the installer will ask if you
want to restore from backup. So, the questions are these:

 a) Is this the best way to achieve the move?

Yes, I think so, too.

 b) We're both running ver 5.2 and I find that I no longer have the MSI
file. The archived versions of TB list TB Home 5.8.8 as the closest
to 5.2. Are there any major differences between 5.2 and 5.88?

AFAIK no.

 c) Will my wife's key block work on 5.8.8?

Yes.

 d) Is 5.8.8 going to run in Win 8.

AFAIK yes.

 e) What questions haven't I thought of?

That the second e) must be f). ;-)

 e) Should I just cut my throat now?

Definitely not. ツ

 Re: BETA (was: 4.0.0.19)

No! Should be - BETA (was: Re: 4.0.0.19)

Ummm, three different people and three different opinions. Can you
provide information about a reliable source which deals with this
subject?

 a) Semiautomatic

You can run the QT at any time even if the textbody of the new
 message is already modified.

It would take me longer to look at the QT to remind myself of the
 shortcut than to type three letters, a colon and two brackets! (-;

- assign a short and descriptive QT handle = e.g. was
- in textbody type was + [ctrl][space]

  = That’s nearly the half! ;-)

 b) Automatic

 2. The textbody must *not* be
modified *before* you change the subject line.

That would probably kill it for me - unless the thread was already
not related to the subject line, I would only decide to change it if
my contribution took it in a different direction.

In general I personally decide this before I start writing the reply
message. ;-)

I would decide this was the case after reading what I had typed...

In this case you can use option a). :-)

 Re: BETA (was: 4.0.0.19)

Good idea! - My favorite news client (40tude Dialog) does so, too:
If you edit the subject line of a reply the client sets the original
 subject in brackets like above.

I found a (quite good) solution for this problem:

a) Semiautomatic

- Create a Quicktemplate and (out of convenience) assign a shortcut:

  %If:%Subj%OSubj:%Subject='Re: %Subj (was: %OSubj)':%Subj

- Reply to a message and edit the Subject line
- Hit Shortcut
- Be happy! :-)

b) Automatic

- Include the macros in your reply template:

  %If:%Subj%OSubj:%Subject='Re: %Subj (was: %OSubj)':%Subj

- Reply to a message and edit the Subject line
- Be happy! :-)

Pro solution a):

You can run the QT at any time even if the textbody of the new message
is already modified.

Pro solution b):

The macros run really automatically! :-) But there are two
limitations:

1. The template must not contain the macro: %ModifyOnce(Subject)
2. The textbody must *not* be modified *before* you change the subject
   line.

Maybe some of you like this solution, too. ;-)

Where do I set the font to be used for each charset?

But what I am asking for is the setting in The Bat!.

 Anybody?

I hope that I did not get you wrong. What about this:

- create a new viewer layout for Windows-874:
  Options|Prefs…|Viewer/Editor Profiles

- assign the regarding font to the new profile:
  Options|Prefs…|Profile Layout
= choose the new profile in the list box at the top of the dialog
= assign the font to all the parts of the message

After this is done, the new Viewer/Editor Profile should automatically
be used for Windows-874 encoded messages.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

This has annoyed me for some time and I'm only now getting around to

an email message, my preference is to put two spaces after a period

space. Even when I go back and try to insert an additional space,
the editor corrects (?) it to a single space. Is there a way to fix
 this?

Re: automatic line wrapping issues

2009-03-31 Thread Volker Ahrendt
[Reply to: »Paul Berger« · 2009-03-31 · 07:32 h (CET)]

Moin, Paul!

The point is, the wrapping only works when you are typing the
paragraph from scratch. When you go back to edit a paragraph, all
the wrapping gets broken and messed up. Why can't it dynamically
wrap everything like any other text editor would do? Is there a
 setting somewhere?

It is Alt-L within the paragraph to reformat.

It would be good if this can be set to autoformat.

Well, Auto-format actually does the trick as long as one is *adding*
characters or words. Reformatting a paragraph after something is
deleted seems to be broken or not be implemented. So in my opinion
this is a bug.

Maybe one of you is willing to submit a bug report:

[Reply to: »Luc« · 2009-03-19 · 00:33 h (CET)]

Moin, Luc!

Okay, I use that one, too. :-)

Try: Options… = Filtering = White list of email addresses

Maybe the White list of email addresses will not work because the
sender's address in the mailing list is *not* t...@yahoogroups.com,
but his own address. So I would recommend to use white rules:

Options… = Filtering = White rules

Just import there the attached rule. – I hope that helps. :-)

Btw, how did you know that the plug-in filters incoming messages
*before* incoming mail filters are triggered? Is this the normal
method with TB!? Or did i miss something in my filter 'translation'?

Ummm, first of all I think, that I read about it somewhere a long
time ago, and second of all it is the only logical order:

1. Filter Junk/Spam/Viruses
2. Filter real/normal messages

OK, if you have selected a name in your AB, don't click the 'sheet

menu select 'New message to' and you will see all (can be more than
 2) addresses for that Name and you can pick the one you wish.

My point is that I want to send the e-mail to _both_ addresses.

I do not know, if this solution fits *exactly* to your problem, but
what about this?

- Edit Address Book entry of recipient
- Go to tab Other
- [x] Automatically add secondary addresses to the BCC field

I wrote exactly, because I do not know, if it is okay for you have
the secondary address(es) in the BCC field.

Okay, okay for a cold beer or two I may tell you. ;-)

- [x] Find text at caret position

- Open a new message with MicroEd editor
- Write some text: Blah foo bar blah bar foo blah …
- Set cursor position to one of these words, e.g. foo
- Hit [ctrl]+[f]
- Find Text dialog comes up = in Look for field foo is pre-set

The same scenario with [_] Find text at caret position:

- Find Text dialog comes up = the Look for field is empty

I can give you my postal address for beer delivery via PM. ;-)

P.S.: Windows-Editor does not have such a feature, i.e. the Look for

[Reply to: »George Mitchell« · 2008-03-19 · 07:30 h (CET)]

Moin, George!

Why should I not move parked messages and keep the Parked flag?

You can't have a message be parked and moved at the same time. It
would be like having a door locked and open it the same time.

I think what people, myself included, are looking for is something
like the Agent newsreader's Keep flag which just prevents against
accidental deletion/purging. Just because I want to protect a
message doesn't mean I don't want to organize it. The Park flag is
especially ill-suited for this as currently implemented.

+1

I could not have said this better myself. :-)

Moin, Luc!

Q1: when i reply to a message, the message that i reply to is shown
with a white background in the preview... where can i change that? I
thought somewhere in the editor settings but i just can't seem to
  recall it.

In message editor's menu uncheck: View|Original text

Q2: When i have a parked message and i want to move it manually to
another folder, the message gets unparked in that folder. Is there a
way to have it kept parked? Or do i need to create some filter for
  that?

AFAIK there is no option to keep the Parked status. Maybe a filter
could be a workaround, but I don't know how, yet. – I think you
should file a wish to Bugtracker. I would support. :-)

Moving parked messages (was: some questions)

2008-03-18 Thread Volker Ahrendt
[Reply to: »Rick Grunwald« · 2008-03-18 · 18:13 h (CET)]

Moin, Rick!

AFAIK there is no option to keep the Parked status. Maybe a
filter could be a workaround, but I don't know how, yet. – I think
you should file a wish to Bugtracker. I would support. :-)

Is not the purpose of parking a message to keep you from
 accidentally deleting or moving it.

Is it so? I don't know. Does Parking only mean to keep one from
deleting a message or does it mean to keep one from deleting *and*
moving a message? Why should I not move parked messages and keep the
Parked flag?

I would think the work around would be to unpark it.

This is the status quo when moving a parked message and confirming
the warning.

You get a message asking you if you really want to move a parked
message and it will allow it. I think it is working as designed

I bet it is working as designed, but I am not convinced that the
design is completely user friendly:

I sometimes move a bunch of messages (parked and unparked) from one
folder to another. I confirm the warning and have to go through all
the messages to find the ones which need to be parked again.

Cheers!

Moin, MAU!

Have you tried Options | Preferences | Messages | Limit expansion
of the first column to _ levels?

 No. but I have now.

Just perfect. I knew it was somewhere but could not find it.

You learn something everyday. I always thought (and believed) that
setting was ONLY for the first column of the Message List Pane, and
not for the folder tree pane.

Hmmm, I justed tested and found out that this setting *only* effects
the message list, the folder tree is untouched by this setting. This
seems to be correct (aka WAD), because the setting is called
Options|Preferences|Messages and not Options|Preferences|Columns.

So, I really do not know, how this setting fixed David's problem.

Moin, Roelof!

I would like to get TheBat! to decide which of those two (or maybe
more) addresses it should use depending on the group from which I
select the contact to write a new message. It would also be nice if
it did that when I write a mail to all contacts in the group (i.e.
 a meeting invitation or something).

Can't be done this way with TB. Best way would be to create unique
entries for each address and to place those addresses in the
 matching group.

Yep, you are right. — Another solution could be:

- Open address book
- Right-click the desired contact
- Choose New message to = [EMAIL PROTECTED]
