Re: Duplicated and lost folders
Hi Privateofcourse, P Dragging folders in TB! has always been a bit of buggy affair but I thought P this situation would have improved by now. And why can't the lost folder P SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+L trick be integrated into the maintenance centre? Surely P that would make sense? I agree. I had this problem when first converting to version 4 from version 1, and still do (it really wasn't worth the upgrade). Version 1 didn't have the problem, at least not as bad as it is now. One would think that a program that relies so much on folders would have some intelligent code handling them. -- Jack Current version is 4.2.6 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Duplicated and lost folders
Hello TBUDL, Earlier I was dragging some folders around in TB! using CTRL+ALT to make them subfolders, and suddenly noticed that the folders I had dragged to the new location had actually duplicated. In fact, when I renamed the original folders and the folder copies the corresponding folder names changed to match. Somehow the folders were displaying in the old location and the new location. Closing TB! and reopening did nothing, and neither did running the tasks in the maintenance centre. So I decided to delete the folders in the new location and then open and close TB! and of course the original folders were gone as well :-/ Luckily I had a backup made an hour before to restore the two folders. However, on opening TB! again I also noticed that eight folders had mysteriously vanished. I did the SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+L trick and the folders were found and recovered. Dragging folders in TB! has always been a bit of buggy affair but I thought this situation would have improved by now. And why can't the lost folder SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+L trick be integrated into the maintenance centre? Surely that would make sense? This did annoy me a bit more than usual...but then it is hot and clammy here. -- Simon (Privateofcourse) #16829. Hello, I'm suffering from what seems to be the same problem as Jack (2008-06-11 15:53:20 GMT). I used to have a folder called Skiing 2009. I can no longer find this in TB!'s folder tree. It's there on disk, and I can see e-mails in the MESSAGES.TBB file. I've tried searching within TB for unique strings in those messages, but they're definitely not there. Shift-ctrl-alt-L doesn't find this folder. I tried removing the ACCOUNT.FLB from the root folder but this had the adverse effect of losing well over half my folders and accounts. Restoring the original seemed to fix that particular scare. Can anyone suggest a path forward? This particular instance isn't critical, but I'm nervous that I've lost other directories and would like to look into this further. Lost folders
Hello, I was trying to move a sub-folder out of the folder it was in into another folder. I was doing this by clicking on the sub-folder and then using the CTRL + arrow key to move it. It turns out there is a bug with this version of TB so that when the folder being moved reaches its parent folder, the selected item gets switched to the parent folder and that folder gets moved. So instead of moving a sub-folder, the whole main folder gets moved. I didn't realize this had happened and when I saw the sub-folder hadn't moved, I tried it again, not realizing it was in a different location already. The same thing happened but now the main folder was buried in a different folder, due to having done it twice. The end result is that the original main folder that should not have been changed at all had disappeared. If I look at the actual disk structure, using a file manager, I can see the missing folder but it doesn't show up in TB. I tried using SHIFT+CTRL_ALT_L but it said nothing found. I tried creating a new folder and copied all of the files from the missing folder to it (using a file manager) but that new folder was still empty. I tried deleting the TBI file for it but the sub-folders would still not appear. I contacted TB support and was told if SHIFT+CTRL_ALT_L doesn't work I must be doing something wrong, so there's no help there. It was suggested that I add a new folder, create a sub-folder and then use the message import menu item to read in the messages from the lost folders. That worked. I had went through about 20 of the lost 200 or so sub-folders when I thought I should restart TB to make sure the messages were being read correctly. When I did that, the new folder was no longer present. I restored TB's directory to a different location from a daily disk backup I do and then copied over the missing folder and its contents. Still didn't show up. It appears there is a main index file that has become corrupted. What a mess! So the bottom line is that I have a missing folder with thousands of messages that I use for my bossiness that I can't get to. Please tell me there is a way to fix this. I can see it by looking at the disk structure. However, I can't see it from within TB. And if I try to create a new folder with the same name as the missing one, a popup says that the name is already in use. I've found that if I added the missing sub-folders and then copy the TB files, instead of importing them, that the new folder will be remembered. So I can use this method, even though it will take, almost, forever. But when I am done, I'm not sure if I can just rename it to the original. Ah, but there is a chance of a storm (imminently) cutting power where Mary is, so I guess she must hope there is sufficient time to charge before that happens! We shall see. The battery charges at the same rate whether the UPS is being used or not, so it really doesn't matter UNLESS there is a failure SOON :-) Some of the LARGER UPS systems operate on the inverter (connverts the battery DC 12V to AC 120V) at all times, so that there is NO delay in switching over to backup power. Normally the quick JA start guides cover everything :) All you guys and girls running out to get a UPS the above is something you definitely want on a UPS. A UPS is first and foremost meant to prevent you losing data with brown and black outs. Therefore the PC should close itself down (after the power has been gone for a short while), in a normal and controlled way without losing data, when the power is gone. Remember you might not be there to shut it down manually!! The battery is also not (normally) there to let you work on for extended period. If you want that you will have to pay big bucks and reserve lots of space for the UPS, depending on how long you want to keep on working after the power is gone. A final note, printers, scanners and all nonessential equipment should not be connected tot the UPS because it drains the battery. You could consider connecting your telephone system to the UPS if you have one that needs external power (think SOHO). Price tip: Some companies sell used UPS equipment and there is lot around for good price since the Internet bubble has blown :( Ask for a minimum waranty on the batteries if you buy one used. -- Best regards, Gerard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Golf humanizes women, humbles their laughty natures, tends, in short, to knock out of their systems a certain modicum of that superciliousness, that swank, which makes wooing a tough proposition for the diffident male.==P.G Wodehouse - THE ROUGH STUFF == Using The Bat! v1.62h on Windows 2000 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 3 Current version is 1.62 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Lost folders
Hello Marck, On Monday, June 18, 2001 at 10:03:33 PM you wrote (at least in part): MDP You can move the folders into the MAIL\ folder hierarchy and then use MDP the undocumented Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L hot key to recover missing MDP folders. *DAMN* (sorry :-( ) why's this key-combo undocumented? *g* I just wanted to write to TB's UDL because of a problem yesterday appeared as I read THIS information, that I could have needed yesterday :-( OK, the problem: My girlfried is using TB! for a while now. Although she's not as firm with TB! as me, she's not dumb :-) Yesterday she called me to tell me two mail folders have been disappeared. Suddenly. Without her interaction. the day before yesterday they were both visible in the account-tree, yesterday she missed them. Although she randomly does things she can't exactly explain (I've never clicked this link! ... you know *g*) she's ABSOLUTELY sure she did NOT delete this folders. This sounds reasonable, as TB! let you confirm before deleting a folder. The 'magic' thing is: not only the folders in the account tree disappeared, I wasn't able to find ANY folder with a similar name on the harddisk. Neither in the mail base dir, nor somewhere else on her harddisk. There were two filters I created to automatically store incoming messages to that two folders ... they were not deleted, BUT: the destination folder in BOTH were 'Inbox' what was not what I've set them to. I ran through every single folder in her three account and browsed deleted messages: I did not found them :-( She did not made a Compress on any folder, so all in all it's very mysterious. She used v1.49 as she did not allowed me to update her TB! *g* I know the information I have and give in this mail aren't enough to track down a bug, but did something similar already happened to somebody else??? Marck: do you know where Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L looks for lost folders? Could this help to re-find them? Thx for any comment, and if there's any help: too :-) -- Regards Peter Palmreuthermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (The Bat! v1.53bis on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2) Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned by Conquering the Galaxy -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hi Thomas, TF Never thought of that. The bat of happiness fluttered its wings and whispered to me that Wolfgang Kynast said on Tuesday, September 26, 2000: TF Never thought of that. That's why I always put the version in the file name when I download a new version. The icon on the install program (the little postage stamp with the bat, same as the executable) doesn't help either. Since there isn't a 16-bit Windows version and you don't have to worry about 8.3 filenames, why not call it TheBat_Setup.exe? I stick it in an Install directory in TheBat!'s tree (along with my registration page) whenever I get it, but I could see where somebody much less perspicacious than I might put the wrong file in the wrong place some day.
