I donot believe its a server problem...
if it was it either would have been noticed before or programmers know
how to get around the problem..

Anyway who minds as user as the email program didnt do it before and
now it does do it wrong, it should be possible to fix it...

Also I wouldnt mind hearing from the programmers what they say the
reason is... They know what they changed, all we can do is guess and
essentially not use the feature.

Seems either the list server or some _really_ misconfigured MTA on the road

it's the list server while inspecting the mail for several rules not

Sometimes, people using mailers like OE send multi-part/alternative
messages - with separate plain text and HTML parts (but basically just
a text message). Usually, TB! has no trouble displaying the HTML part
if the message.htm tab is selected. I just noticed when I tried this
on one such message, while the plain text portion displayed properly,
the HTML part displayed only two non-standard characters (ÿþ) - but
no message.

This never happened with 1.53t, which always displayed HTML as
expected (properly, minus external images, etc.).

Yes, it appears that most of us see the two characters, but for some
reason the copy on your System didn't show it... or deleted it for some
reason, resulting in your failed signature.

Another peculiar twist...

If I look at my sent messages in the sent folder, they look just
fine. So then, I thought that the problem was just in my *incoming
message* display. However - I just tried something else...

I opened up my Becky mail client, and downloaded the same messages
(the ones to TBUDL as well as the test message I sent to myself). I
had the very same display problems reading the messages in Becky.
This leads me to believe that it's not the plain text display in my
TB! so much as it's a problem during transmission.

Since this is not happening with all my messages, I'm really puzzled.

It seems that when *I* send a message with that umlaut-y character,
what I get back is truncated after the character (like a signature
delimiter). However... if someone else sends a message with that
character (not quoted), that particular character is simply missing.
And then... If someone else sends that character in within a quoted
section, I receive it. But then!... if I turn around and try to reply
to such a message - including the quoted characters - when I get it
back on the list, that particular character is missing again!

I'll contact the people at the mail server I'm using for these lists,
but beyond something happening on their end, I have *no* idea what is
happening here.

And remember - the way I discovered this particular strange behavior
is because of an OE generated multi-part/alternative-plain text/HTML
message that, in the HTML display, only displayed the *two* peculiar
characters - the umlaut-y and this: þ.

So... I'm still wondering why my HTML viewing is acting strangely as
well.

In any even, I'll write to the people responsible for my email
address/server, and I'll ask them about all this. I'll let you know
what I hear from them.

Thanks everyone for trying to help!

As you can see, in what I've quoted here, the umlaut-y character is
missing (I did include it when I sent the original message).

I'll include that information when I write to the owners of the two

What font is the RTV set to use? Perhaps the different font is unable
to display the characters. If you're using the RTV with a font that's
different from that of the editor, I suggest switching to the editor's
font and check to see if the problem is still there.

Allie, I added ISO-8859-15 as Thai to Xlat, use html set to Thai, set
it even as default but I am not even sure the default sticks as when
looking it always is set to none
Anyway, seems I better switch back to English (g) txt for a while...

Very interesting! The umlaut-y character was DEFINITELY visible in
the message that I received in Eudora, and in what I quoted for

I have seen I think the same
in Html msgs are incomplete sometimes where txt shows all and
sometimes odd characters appear but on sending they change into
something else.
So you maybe looking at exactly the same data but not see the same...

In my case I changed something in the rlat tables as I want to enable
some foreign scripts to be readable...

Looks like I have to read the whole tread though as I thought it was a

 couldn't be the problem.

I see all of your messages in their entirety, with all the characters
you wish to send. Since with both Becky and TB! you're seeing
truncated versions, then it would appear to be a mail server issue.

The last thing to do would be to send the characters in an unsigned
text block and see if it's transmitted OK or is everything below and
including the characters cutoff as well?

I donot believe it has anything to do with a mailserver more a
babylonian confusion between the different Bats...
Anyway, No reason why becky couldnt have the same problem..

I now saw a square, indicating that whatever was send didnt have a
