Strange error at startup
I often, but not always, get a FETCH error when TheBat! performs its first check for new mail when I start it up in the morning. It is configured to check automatically, so I just hear the sound that indicates an error and I find something like this in my log: 11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - receiving mail messages 11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - Connecting to POP3 server mail.$.com on port 995 11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake >11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - Certificate S/N: , algorithm: RSA (512 >bits), issued from 11/7/2014 1:41:42 PM to 11/2/2034 1:41:42 PM, for 1 >host(s): mail.$.com. >11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - Owner: "US", "State", "City", "Company Name, >Inc.", "email service", "mail.$.com", "postmaster@$.com". >11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - This certificate is self-issued. 11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - TLS handshake complete 11/18/2021, 06:56:53: FETCH - connected to POP3 server 11/18/2021, 06:56:54: FETCH - authenticated (plain) !11/18/2021, 06:56:55: FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: rack.us; receiver= The "rack.us" part of the example changes almost every time the error occurs. Can anyone help me to understand what is happening? I had originally suspected some sort of infection on my desktop or maybe even our mail server, but I've used several different bootable (from optical disk) scanning tools and all report both systems to be clean. Any ideas? Oh, I should mention that when I'm paying attention (like this morning when I captured this example) I click TB!'s "Receive New Mail" button on the toolbar immediately after the FETCH error is reported and TB! calmly connects to my mail server and downloads last night's mail with no issues. This error seems to happen only ONCE per run, and only on the very FIRST (automatic) attempt to "Receive New Mail" -- Steven Valliere | tb 9.4.4 | mailto:the...@e-visions.com -- "If you didn't write it down, then it didn't happen." -Larry Zana Current version is 9.1.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Spell check strange dictionary behavior
I only paid attention to which dictionary was open when Naomi hit the wall. It is SSCE\accent.tlx (AM). I have never noticed this before. I have a whole slew of SSCE??.tlx files all with various language endings (FR, BR, et) in two directories: Program Files(X86)\TheBat\Speller and Owner\App Data\Roaming\TheBat\Speller How can I have the spell check use my main dictionary wherever it is? And can I delete one set of these .tlx files? I would imagine that the Program Files(x86) are left-overs from an earlier version of TheBat Thanks. -- Leonard S. Strange error message
Hi Batters - I recently migrated from Win7 to Linux. I fully expected to have to give up TheBat! after all these years of dependency, but I was thrilled to find it loaded perfectly in Wine (v1.3.30, if anyone is interested). I loaded up my isp account and my several gmail accounts, and held my breath and pushed the fetch button. They all responded as expected. I tested send, and had transport in both directions. Home free, right? Then I tried to load my personal account from my personal mail server, which runs Dovecot. I loaded it up, and when I told it to fetch, nothing happened. I loaded it to POP, like the others. On doing some testing, I found to my fury that Thundebird fetched it fine. I. Can't. Live. With. Thunderbird. Especially not when all the rest of the accounts work fine in TB!. There are 1,900+ messages parked on that server, and apparently TB! can see them, because it counts them off as it goes, but it doesn't bring them to the inbox. The error messages show in the bottom log bar, but not in the account log. The messages are: FETCH - could not store message (file name-c:\users\lynn\temp\bat*.tmp) String looks like hex, 4 characters. And, when it is finished not fetching the messages it counts off: FETCH - Failed to store all received the messages into the message base. Downloaded 1956 messages, stored 0 message(s). I'm stumped. My Linux mentors are stumped. I know that RitLabs does't support Linux or Wine, but this seems to be a TB! error. And I know that there are a few rogue batters who are successfully running TB! in Wine. And I'm praying to the cyber gods that there is at least ONE person here, or perhaps someone who can point me to someone, or a place, where I can find out how to fix this. Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light - . Oh ... I'd like to know whether TB! is a 32 bit or 64 bit app - I looked on the site, but couldn't find it. tia. Strange
Hi, since three days TB has changed its behaviour here spontaneously. Clicking on some folder a small popup windows appears, telling me that folder was compacted. See: http://www.boudicca.de/tb-1.jpg And clicking on another folder, there it's also tried, but there werte obviously no mails to delete, 'cause now another popup appears, telling me there are no messages to delete and nothing to compact. See: http://www.boudicca.de/tb-2.jpg However, I wasn't even in the settings, so didn't change anything. My accounts settings are set to empty trash on exit and to compact folders on exit. Not all folders are involved. Because it is really annoying behaviour, I like to know how this can get deactivated. -- Regards, Gunivortus Using The Bat Vs. 4.2.40 under Windows 7 64 bit POP3 only. Hi Roelof, Thank you for your reply. I would prefer not to purge my emails by date as there may be some important ones. I prefer to delete them individually, but they can't. I am also getting out of memory or out of bounds messages. Does V4 have a bigger database for messages (inbox). If so itwould be simpler for me to upgrade delete the messages after. Strange Email Problems 3.99.24
Hello TB! Users, I am not sure that this problem is TB! related, but since it appeared since I upgraded to 3.99.24 a few weeks ago, I thought I would ask here. My DSL connection goes down when I send emails with attachments. It appears to be size related - if the message is more than around 3.9Mb then the my DSL connection is lost at that point. The send fails, and I have to wait for my router/DSL model to re-establish a connection. I am stumped by this. My ISP does not appear to have any limits in place that would cause my connection to be cut off, but my router does not tell me much other than a log entry to say that the WAN Interface is down. I have tried my ISP's email servers and my backup email servers via SMPTAUTH with the same effect. Any clues anyone? Re: Strange problem causing question marks in emails
Hi, thanks again for replying, Are your outgoing messages that exhibit this behaviour replies rather than new messages? If so, is the problem text your own or quoted from the message you reply to? The problem isnt really from when i reply to an email. it occurs either when i save a msg as draft, or save it in my outbox. Upon opening it again to edit it or send it out, the questions marks are there. so i cant use the save email option anymore, i have to save the text in ms word and paste it out again in anew email. it also happens when ive already sent out an email and want to send the same email to someone else. in outlook express there used to be a resend option. but in the bat! i go to sent mail, open the email, and redirect it. that creates the question marks too. now ive started to copy the text of the sent email into a new email and that seems to work, but i still cant use redirect or forward without question marks appearing. Odd. If you re-send exactly the same message with no modification (copy from sent to outbox, perhaps) does that go astray too? exactly the same one, no changes, and it wont make it through. i know its not getting through because it doesnt show up on the archives of the list on the web, and it also doesnt go out to individual recipients on the list. ive done virus checks on the computer too and nothings turned up. please help! i want to be able to save msgs in my outbox and have the question marks disappear. -- Current version is 3.95.06 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Strange filtering on IMAP account
Greetings, 09:45, Thursday, December 22, 2005 I recently moved from a POP to an IMAP mail server. The setup seemed to go fairly easy, but my incoming mail filters now behave strangely on the IMAP account. Sometimes they don't run and I must run then manually. If they are supposed to mark a message as read, the last message put in a folder is never marked as read. I upgraded from 3.62 to the latest version, but that didn't help. Further, the IMAP message counts are wrong. Currently they show I have 11 unread out of 31 total in the input folder, when in fact 29 have been moved to other folders and the two remaining have both been read. I've turned off all synchronization, so that's not it. The count corrects itself if I compress the folder. Strange server error (solved)
Last night I posted a query based on the following error: LSB The server reports error, The response is: 5.7.1 Missing or literal LSB domains not allowed None of the information that I received was of much help -- no fault of people who tried to help. So, in desperation, I copied the message into Notepad, saved the Notepad file, opened the Notepad file and copied the message into a new e-mail message. It went out without and problem. I think I understand what is going on. The error message has nothing to do with the To: address. The message that I was sending was from a person to whom I always have trouble replying, as my (From:) message is incomplete. That's what was happening here, but since I normally have the From: unchecked with I compose e-mail, I did not realize this. Now why my From: address is corrupted is another matter. It happens only with this individual, so I am not going to lose sleep over it. Leonard S. Virtual folder strange behavior when deleting message
I have a virtual folder that contains messages from several physical folders with a filter that selects based on sender. The virtual folder is sorted on the received column. When I delete a message in the virtual folder with the delete-key the displayed message is not the next one according to the sort, but a totally different one. This is obviously not the expected behavior and it makes it difficult to go through all the messages in the folder. Can anyone offer any help or advice on how to remedy the situation or as to why The Bat! behaves like this? Best regards, Jarle H. Strange characters in view source
Hello TBBETA, I see weird characters in the headers. Example: X-Priority:? (Normal) Message-ID:?lt;[EMAIL PROTECTED] To: TBUDL [EMAIL PROTECTED] There is also a square replacing the blank and the T after the colon in the To: line, but the cp from the source view (F9) doesn't show this. In fact, many headers show either question marks or squares when using the source view. No weird characters in the header view (crtl-K). Does anybody see this, or is it my system? I didn't see this under TB v2.12. -- TIA, Thomas. Current version is 3.0.1.33 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Strange Behaviour from The Bat!
During the download of mail from my mail server, The Bat! insisted on activating a minimized application and bringing the window to the forefront with every piece of mail. I tried reminimizing the window, without success. The Bat! brought it back on the next item downloaded. I tried keeping The Bat! at the forefront, without success. The Bat! brought the window back to the front. I even tried cancelling the application. The Bat! chose another minimized application to bedevil me. This has happened to me on two separate occasions. It doesn't appear to be serious. After cancelling and restarting The Bat, everything seems to be OK. I was merely curious if anyone else had seen this peculiar behavior. -- Best regards, Lawrence Johnson mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
